Summary:

Another spirit attempts to approach Toru in his dreams, but it finds that it is unable to. When Toru wakes and sees Ko outside, he realizes that she was the one who protected him. Meanwhile, Ebisu notices as a fox deity appears in town. After stopping him, Ebisu learns that the deity had been forced out of his home because of humans overpopulating its area. As the deity was traveling towards a powerful fox’s power in hopes of finding a new place to live, Ebisu directs him to Tenko. When the deity reaches the Takagami household, he is introduced as Ogami Ittou. The family soon becomes attached to his son as well, who Tenko names Daigorou. When Mr. Takagami arrives home, he quickly agrees to let the two stay for awhile.

Ittou accompanies Ko to buy groceries the next morning, taking the chance to ask about Tenko’s powers on the way back. Of course, Ko reveals that they had weakened because of the recent Mitama Okuri. Ko and Ittou suddenly sense danger before the conversation can continue, as the spirit from earlier appears amidst fog. When Ittou wonders why this spirit wishes to approach Toru, he is shocked at Ko’s answer that Toru is a descendant of the Mizuchi. Ko starts to fight against the spirit, and although it first seems as if the spirit has the upper hand, Ko soon reveals that she had preparations made to immobilize him throughout the fight. With the spirit’s defeat, its true form is revealed as a clam.

When Ko arrives home, she enters the bath with Daigorou. In her absence, Kouga and Eiga arrive at the household with a request for the clam that Ko had caught earlier. Tenko and Ittou are surprised to hear about the neighboring god Mubyo, who is revealed to be searching for an item called the Sakasaen. Tenko is not willing to let the guardians have their way so easily, so she has arrangements made for them to help Ittou in exchange for the clam. Even Noboru helps in this plotting, giving Kouga and Eiga no choice but to submit. After Ittou presents the clam to Mubyo later that night, she quickly questions the creature of the Sakasaen’s location.

Preview: Mubyo!

Impression:

So, I had actually written most of this post a few hours after it came out last night, but I ended up passing out from exhaustion before finishing it. I guess I haven’t adjusted to my work schedule yet, so you’ll have to forgive me for the short length. Anyways, this episode introduced a couple new characters as well as introducing a new plot element. It was really fun to see the reactions Daigorou got from everyone, but I’m not sure if I liked Ogami Ittou’s face transforming into a fox’s in the beginning of the episode. Yes, I know this has already happened quite a few times, but it’s still bothering me a bit. The fight against Kai in this episode didn’t exactly excite me that much, though I did enjoy seeing Ko in action again. It’s also redeeming that they didn’t just put it off as another episodic thing, since they introduced the new plot element at the end. Judging from the preview, Mubyo looks like she is going to be a very fun and interesting character. I guess it was only a matter of time before we would start seeing more deities and gods.

Also, the OP single came out sometime last week. It’s a pretty fun listen, but as usual, not something I would usually listen to all the time. I can’t wait to get the ED!

Mubyo’s love of hand puppets certainly reminds me of the Sketchbook Full Colors girl

  3. […] cheerful personality a lot more though. I might have not thought about this if someone hadn’t mentioned it earlier today, but the puppet thing is totally similar to Natsumi’s hobbies in Sketchbook. […]
