Sekirei - 02
Oniichan~
Summary:
Following their flight, Musubi shocks Minato by stating that she has not thought about how to get back down from the sky. The two quickly fall through a tree into someone’s property, and a woman greets them afterwards. Finding that the two have injuries, this woman and another man invite them inside their household to treat their injuries. After letting Minato and Musubi borrow clothes, the woman introduces herself as Asami Miya. When she mentions that the clothes Minato is wearing belonged to her husband, she further reveals that he had passed away quite some time ago. The other occupant then introduces himself as Kagari to the visitors. Minato and Musubi are even invited for dinner, as the two meet another resident named Uzume. Minato soon learns from Miya that the household is actually an Inn, and when he reveals the desperate situation he is in, Miya easily allows him to stay. Kagari leaves the room shortly after, speaking on his phone with someone named Takami about a “lost number”.
While Musubi takes a shower in the apartment later, Minato makes a call to his mother about his situation. He is shocked when she states that he will only be receiving half of his allowance until he gets into college, but his mother soon hangs up before discussing this any further. Afterwards, Minato gets in another alarming situation with Musubi because of her lack of common sense. Elsewhere in the city, an Ashikabi approaches an abandoned Sekirei in the city. The next day, Minato’s sister Yukari stops by the apartment to visit her brother. She reveals that she has entered a college in the area, and their mother has also started working close by. After meeting Musubi, Yukari realizes that this was the reason her brother asked for women’s clothing. Musubi almost states that she is Minato’s Sekirei, but Minato quickly stops her. After a bit of tidying in the apartment, Yukari leaves to visit a friends house.
Minato and Musubi decide to leave as well, and Minato is surprised when he sees Musubi pick up all of his luggage in a single bag. Musubi explains that her ability is power, making Minato realize that all Sekirei have their own different abilities. When Minato recalls the event from a few nights ago, Musubi also explains that each Sekirei has an incantation that enhances their powers. Upon reaching the Izumo Inn again, Minato and Musubi are soon introduced to their new room. In a room elsewhere, a young woman monitors Minato. Kagari soon leaves the Inn for work, as Miya reveals that he works for a host club. When Musubi is introduced to the bath, she expresses her wish to enter with Minato. Minato states that he will go in later, of course, taking the chance to look at the tree he fell through previously. Getting closer to it, he hears and sees a young girl asking for help.
When Uzume joins Musubi in the bath, she finds it interesting that she has a Sekirei mark on her back. When Musubi learns that Uzume is a Sekirei as well, she quickly engages combat with her. Although Musubi is very excited, Uzume does not wish to fight. When Uzume escapes to the outside, she attempts to have Minato stop his Sekirei. Before Musubi can advance towards Uzume any further, Miya stops her with her wish that there would be no fighting in her inn. Elsewhere in the city, a Sekirei named Tsukiumi meets Homura. She wishes to fight with him to prove who is stronger, but Homura simply leaves with advice for Tsukiumi to find a master soon. During the night, Minato again meets the young girl in his dreams. The girl introduces herself as Kusano, again hoping that Minato would save her. In other places, Homura stands in front of an area where a targeted Sekirei lies. Of course, this Sekirei is none other than Kusano.
ED: “Dear sweet heart” by Saori Hayami, Marina Inoue, Kana Hanazawa, and Aya Endo - Hahaha! What!? That was the oddest ED I’ve seen in a long time. I probably don’t like the song as much as the OP, but the animation is definitely more interesting than most other EDs around.
Preview: Adding Ku-chan to the harem.
Impression:
Minato is a lolicon in my opinion. I mean, he sees lolis in his dreams. But yea, I think is about the time I start feeling slightly regretful for reading through the Sekirei manga before picking up the anime. Maybe regret isn’t the right word to use, but I do feel like I could have been more excited about this episode if I did not already have extensive information about the plot in the back of my head. This episode only did more to introduce the general plot, though the anime did add a few scenes with characters here and there. I enjoyed seeing everything come to life through animation as always, but I also laughed after seeing the massive amount of fog used as censoring. Considering the manga’s material, I guess it would have been pretty hard to avoid such fanservice. Either way, I predict that the dvd sales for this show will be extremely high.
I also have to mention how stacked the seiyu line up for this show is. The cast for this series is huge as it is, but out of all of the characters who were introduced in his episode alone, there were several notable actresses. I loved hearing Hanazawa Kana as Kusano, and Ohara Sayaka made a perfect Miya. I’m not sure if Inoue Marina playing Tsukiumi fits very well at the moment, but it seems like it will just take some getting used to. Tsukiumi is also my favorite sekirei (she’s clearly the best), so that probably played into the bias a bit. Anyways, we’ll be introduced to even more characters next week….along with lots of Ku-chan. Lolicons rejoice?

funky vibes aside when Ku-chan shows up initially (wonder if they’ll show *that*), she actually is an amusing character to have around (mostly from the facial expressions and what not in the manga).
Nothing against Hanazawa Kana but man I swear she’s using the same voice she does for Yuka in Kyoran. And IMHO, I would have liked Yukarin instead as Kusano ala the drama CD since Yukarin = loli roles LOL
Also props for the show for getting Yukana as Kazehana. With her recent awesomeness as CC in Code Geass and Kuu in Wagaya no Oinari-sama, she definitely fits the character well enough XD Can’t wait for the fun once Kazehana gets more screentime!
Yea, I really liked Tamura Yukari as Ku in the drama CD. I like Hayamin a lot more than Kawasumi Ayako as Musubi though. Otherwise, I think it’s a pretty fair trade off so far. I didn’t mention Yukana because she got like 5 seconds of time in this ep lol.
Moyism: So damn true. Yukana is playing all playful-sly characters now. Yuukari is very good in those erm “young” roles.
Totali: Hayamin has shown alot of her talent with role huh?
Well I’ve gotten wrapped into this series. After watching the first episode I decided to give the manga another try (I had tried it earlier but had alot to focus on at the time). And now I’m halfway caught up. And I’m finding this whole series fun.
Inoue Marina as Tsukiumi is quite perfect (infact as soon as I saw Tsukiumi in the manga I said “Inoue Marina has to play her). Imean compare her role as Chiri (In Zetsubo Sensei) to her first interactions with Minato.
I’m looking forward to seeing the animation’s take on Minato’s sister and Shiina (his sister is so funny).
Sexirei. I would watch this show only if they were lactating those mammaries to feed hungry babies.
Tanaka Rie played Tsukimi in the Drama CDs, man…what a downgrade.
Captain Bravo from Buso Renkin?

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t think Kawasumi Ayako is the right person for Musubi’s voice. Kawasumi Ayako sounds too intelligent, where Musubi is an airhead for most, if not all, of the manga. Musubi needs to sound dumber.
