Kannagi – 03
Hot goddess on childhood friend action!
Summary:
When Nagi sees Jin leaving the house in the morning, she is slightly surprised to learn that he is headed to school. Seeing that everyone is able to go to school now, Nagi expresses to herself how great of a country Japan has become. Jin meets Tsugumi outside, then thanking her for the meal she prepared for him earlier. When Tsugumi hears what Jin’s favorite part was though, she is slightly disappointed. In art class later, Jin is tormented by the art club members Ookouchi Shino and Kimura Takako for his seemingly bad painting skills. Further more, they compare his skills to Hibiki Daitetsu who seems to out-due him in several ways. Daitetsu takes the chance to ask Jin what has happened to his previous project, but Jin relays to him that it unfortunately broke while he was working on it. In response, Daitetsu loans a book to Jin, something that contains material that he believes to be incredibly cute. The group eventually sees that the boy named Akiba Meguru is in the room as well, drawing successful manga as usual. Jin asks why Meguru doesn’t join the manga club instead, but he denies his wish to associate with such anime obsessed individuals. Jin guesses that this is because Meguru doesn’t like anime himself, but he soon learns that this is clearly not the case.
Shino and Takako notice how well rounded their group of artists is later, especially when Jin declares his will to become a great artist like Daitetsu. The two girls later invite the rest of the group to visit an old storehouse for club organization. Having already heard about this before, Meguru reveals how frightening the building is actually suppose to be. When even Tsugumi joins the group to enter the building later, they initially convince Jin that there is nothing haunted about it. Tsugumi eventually brings up that some of what the girls were talking about is supposedly true, however, revealing the story about the boy who had killed himself by falling into the lower floor in the past. When banging appears from beneath the bottom door in the room, the students can only escape in extreme panic. At home later, Jin recalls his seeing of what he believed to be an impurity in the storehouse. He wonders if he should tell this to Nagi, but imagining her wish to visit school if she heard about it, he decides to keep it a secret for the moment.
Jin tries to come up with ways to bring the impurity to Nagi without having her come to school the next day, but his thoughts are soon interrupted by Meguru who is amazed with the relationships he has. When Jin sees Nagi happily greet him outside, he soon avoids the large gathered crowd to question her about why she has come to the school. Nagi learns that Jin was keeping a secret from her, having already heard a bit from Tsugumi, so Jin reveals what he had seen the previous day. With this, Nagi confirms that her senses have not weakened. When Tsugumi shows up to the two, she reveals that she was the one who gave Nagi a school outfit after seeing her outside the school grounds earlier. Jin is surprised that she had a spare outfit, but Tsugumi is unable to reveal the truth about her gaining weight over the summer. While Jin introduces Nagi to the boys afterwards, Tsugumi recalls the conversation she had with Nagi in the morning. She wondered about her relationship with Jin, despite their being relatives, but Nagi stated that she saw nothing more than a child in him. Besides that, she claimed to already have someone that she loved.
Approaching the supposedly haunted building later, Nagi reveals that she is actually quite interested in the occult. The students are again horrified when they enter the room they were previously in, even seeing the door shut behind them. When Nagi opens the door to reveal what is suppose to be a ghost, however, an old man appears instead. Shino and Takako then show up to admit that they were playing a joke on everyone, introducing everyone to Dokusasori-sensei who was trapped in the bottom room. Nagi is unable to accept this as a joke, running out in panic that she may have really lost her senses. When she sees a church outside, however, she enters to find that a girl has the impurity in her hands. Crushing it, the girl refers to the panicked Nagi as her older sister.
Impression:
Too bad it doesn’t look like Zyl has watched this episode yet. The misconceptions could really get out of hand! Once again, this episode seemed to come straight out of the manga (chapters four and five to be exact). With even scenes like this showing up like they did in the original material, I had to praise A-1 for their faithfulness. With the addition of the stylish animation during scenes like what was suppose to be horrifying situations in the clubroom, I ended up enjoying this arc much more than I did while reading it. Some of the hilarious jokes, like Tsugumi being proud of herself for having bigger boobs than Nagi, ended up being way funnier after seeing them a second time too. It’s just that life that animation has to it that makes me love it so much. On the other hand, I will have to note that it seems like the production dipped just a little bit when compared to the last episode, and I’m also not sure if I like the use of black bars to indicate flashbacks and the such. That’s not to say that I wasn’t expecting any downs from the studio, even if I do appreciate A-1 more than the general fanbase seems to. There was a really nice transition to the ED with Zange’s appearance at the end of this episode too. I’m sure this is the point where the other half of the Kannagi fans start to shout for joy. I, for one, am looking forward to Hanazawa Kana’s performance.
Notes:
- Tsugumi walking slow!
- Elitist artists? Impossible.
- With just the palette knife? Amazing.
- I sense a closet otaku.
- Nose bleeds!
- Face dents!
- Dodging the magical hug scene. Classic.
- I heard this was fighting anime….with choreography.
- Fanservice anime!
- Who calls it a “wand” anyways? Calling it a “magic stick” is way funnier and awesome.

Hawt yuri action. Now we are also going to have nun x miko H!
I wish I could say that was a lie.
Oh yes, Zange! :3
Creeeepy there Di Gi Kazune, especially when one considers the fact that Zange-chan and Nagi are ‘SISTERS’…
mmmm nun x miko incest H!
yes!!! glad Zange appeared she’s one twisted character.
Di Gi Kazune looks to be having the right idea here and I fully support. Can’t believe it took me this long to start this but this has quickly accelerated to my favorite of the season list and I think it will be hard to budge!
hello i like the anime
I liked the previous episodes, but the quality and the introduction of all the characters we saw in the OP just sold me on this show, this episode was just way too MARVELOUS!
The bit with Tsugumi recalling that ghost story in the basement gave me Jigoku Shoujo (Shibatas better come back, Tsugumi! Hajime!) and Higurashi vibes. Red eyes are red.
Tsugumi punching the air in celebration was awesome. This makes me wonder… does the underwear come with the wood carving starter pack, or did Jin have to guess Nagi’s size?
