“Tomoya, we need to talk!”

Summary:

Yoshino actually compliments Tomoya on one day of work, as he has come a long way by performing the same actions every day. While watching passing students afterwards, Tomoya realizes that he is not alone despite initial appearances. After the two spend time with Akio and Sanae in the usual lively matter that night, Nagisa attempts to get Tomoya’s attention before seeing him off at his home. Although Tomoya first avoids the serious conversation, Nagisa finally gets to the point by asking if he has spoken to his father after moving to his apartment. Tomoya obviously hasn’t, then using his working everyday and wanting to spend time with Nagisa on his days off as an excuse. Nagisa confirms that it is fine if it isn’t immediately, but she wishes that Tomoya would eventually speak with his father properly.

At the company the next day, Tomoya is surprised to hear about the possibility of his leaving the company for different employment. Yoshino assures Tomoya that this is not the drastic situation he initially imagines it as, but Tomoya still wonders if he is more qualified for promotion than someone like Yoshino. As Tomoya is younger, Yoshino assures him that he has more potential. Yoshino then finally takes the chance to tell Tomoya about his past, starting with his wish to become a musician in high school.

As bands were becoming very popular at that time, Yoshino had bought a guitar for himself. He had become quite good at it, and was one day approached by Ibuki who was very fond of one of his songs. On the day of Yoshino’s leaving, Ibuki assured him that he would become a pro. With this thought in mind, Yoshino did his best to reach the top. He had become extremely popular, one day even visiting a group of kids who were saved by his music. Because of the large responsibility he then had though, now not only playing for himself, Yoshino had become unable to play music.

Even seeing that people were losing hope because of the disappearance of the music that once saved them, Yoshino attempted to sing again. However, he did not even know the reason behind his singing. Finally losing his place, Yoshino decided that he simply wanted to return home. He met Ibuki then, and when she asked if he was still playing music, he could only fall into tears. She was the only person Yoshino truly wanted to play music for, in the form of a single love song.

Tomoya continues to spend time with Nagisa and her family later, but upon reaching his apartment, he receives a phone call alerting him of Kinoshita’s needing to speak with him. When Tomoya calls Kinoshita, he learns that his father is being held at the police station. As this news even reaches the electric company, Tomoya starts to despair even more at the bad reputation he is receiving because of his father. That night, he even suggests to Nagisa that they leave the town. Nagisa states that this would only be running away, and that it would make it so that the two would no longer be able to call the town a place they could return to. Tomoya claims that he does not have anything in the town, but Nagisa reminds him that this was the town that they had met each other at as well.

When Tomoya finally sees his father at the police station, he becomes very angry at the fact that he even refuses to say anything to him in response for coming. Nagisa is forced to chase Tomoya as he leaves, even preventing him from hurting himself more than he already has. After finally calming down, Tomoya suggests that he and Nagisa get married. To his shock, Nagisa agrees. Though Tomoya believes he is very pathetic, Nagisa states that even she is without Tomoya. With this, the two agree to spend the rest of their lives together.

Preview: Parent meet up!

Impression:

“Uh….we can talk about school swimsuits!”

“But I want to talk about you being emo about your dad.”

“Um….let’s get married!”

“Okay!”

In Japan, you must get married before even kissing! Holding hands is okay though. (F yea, holding hands!!!) We got the furthest away from the random comedy we’ve been getting recently in this episode, as most of it was very serious. From Yoshino’s past to the awesome ending though, I definitely enjoyed watching all the drama I’ve come to expect from Keyani. I loved seeing the struggle that Yoshino had as a musician, as well as all the people he influenced, only to see him realize what he truly wanted to live for. I think this is something that most anyone can relate to, even though everyone’s life goal obviously isn’t to become a rock star. Yoshino’s “Don’t lose sight of what is important to you.” was probably one of the strongest lines in the series so far.

I could feel Tomoya’s rage as he went street fighter on the wall at the end too, and the atmosphere the animation gave off just made this scene even stronger. His popping the question to Nagisa suddenly also made for a huge “Oshi-” moment to take away all the depressing events that were building up throughout the whole episode. I guess Nagisa didn’t get to have the fancy restaurant treatment though…

Pretty sudden for Tomoya to pop the question, but going back to what Yoshino said of not to lose sight of what is important to you, I can see his reasons for asking Nagisa to marry him.

Overall, it was a very good episode.

Way to deflect Nagisa’s inquiries Tomoya: by a marriage proposal. O_O

Okay, I really hope Yoshido is the last filler backstory we have to go through before getting to the actual story. Seriously, do we have to do a Botan backstory before getting to the After Story? The marriage proposal is touching, but you are right. They will probably find a Gundam in their basement before they go even further. Show ▼

Tomoya and Nagisa’s lack of inmate-ness is one of the few things bad about KyoAni’s AS adaptation. I mean, in the game they were already living togheter, kissing, hugging, holding hands, all that good stuff. Heck there’s even an option for Tomoya to steal Nagisa’s panties while she’s in the shower x.x; and all this is before they get married. I guess anime Tomoya has more moral fiber lolol
