Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae – 26 (Final)
What the hell girl? My final impression is included.
Summary:
In an ironic turn of events, Mayama Azusa turns out to be Yuzuki’s first target. This brings her to meet Akie’s father, who had desperately searched for his missing daughter until learning about the Jigoku Tsushin. In other places, Ren and Hone learn that Tsugumi is leaving the town. They suspect that she had come to the town in order to stop Yuzuki, but she claims not only that she did not have the power to do so, but that it was too late at this point. Kikuri also starts to feel strange while with Yamawaro, releasing the Spider that had been using her as a container. After being presented with a doll, Mr. Takasugi travels to Azusa’s house to see her disappear with his own eyes. After peering into her window, however, he decides that he is unable to do it. This disappoints Yuzuki greatly, and afterwards, she declares that she would send Azusa to hell herself. Ai appears to express that this is against the rules, but Yuzuki sends an attack her way before moving on to her enemy.
Yuzuki prepares to send Azusa to hell, but to her shock, Akie appears in her place. She is then send to the Spider’s territory, as he prepares to punish her. Despite having the upper hand against her, and using the image of Akie to do this, Yuzuki is soon saved by the Jigoku Tsushin. Yuzuki wonders why Ai had done this for her afterwards, so Ai shows Yuzuki an image of her younger self. Ai describes that Yuzuki was all alone, before shedding tears for her. Ai describes that people are weak, and that they would always try to save themselves when desperate. The Spider catches up to Ai and Yuzuki, but Ai proposes to take the punishment for Yuzuki. This would cause her to serve for eternity, with no second chances. Yuzuki starts to disappear before Ai later, but Ai embraces her with a kiss to comfort her. Upon their lips touching, Yuzuki sees images of Ai’s past. Of course, the two were the same in the end. With her final parting with Yuzuki, Ai continues her job with the Jigoku Tsushin as always.
Impression:
Really? We had to sit through 26 episodes just to see Yuzuki’s emo angst fest get solved by some awesome yuri action from Ai? Happy endings for everyone? OKAY. What exactly did we accomplish here? So much for plot or direction, with the finale being almost exactly like the first season’s. Shibata Hidekatsu even showed back up as the Spider, in a well animated, yet really anticlimactic final battle. Tsugumi’s simply leaving the town after giving up left me with a blank stare too, as it basically confirmed that Deen was simply looking for an excuse to give her a cameo in the show. The returning plot dealing with Azusa and Akie was all around poorly written, and sadly, I have to say that I’ve seen better from earlier episodes. I did like a lot of the visuals in the final episode though, and I can probably guarantee that every Jigoku Shoujo fan had a smile on their face when Yuzuki said the classic, “Want to try dying once?” line. So, any word of Hell Girl 4?
Final Impression:
I can’t really say much was gained from this season of Jigoku Shoujo. Deen seemed to throw out the storytelling that the first two seasons had in favor of fanservice early on, and it showed. Most of the revenge stories didn’t end up amounting to anything, and some were even comedic. Yuzuki started off as an interesting protagonist, but after awhile, her character simply wasn’t carried out to its full potential. Instead of only being a Tsugumi clone, I guess we got a little bit of Ai in her as well. Great. In a show as slowly progressing as this one, I guess that’s somewhat of an accomplishment.
I will say that I probably enjoyed this season of Hell Girl about as much as the first two (for different reasons), but that’s really not saying much. In all honesty, I’m not even sure what it was that brought me to want to blog this show in the first place. Perhaps it was that cheeky dark side of me, or my secret wish to follow my hero Garten’s footsteps. I will say that watching an episode each week did make things more entertaining though, as Jigoku Shoujo is simply not a show that should be viewed in one sitting. So, while this show was totally in left field for my usual blogging schedule, covering it did end up making me like the series more. At least it’s over?

Hahahahahahha, that sounded so funny, and so true!
I did feel that this eps is beautifully animated as well. Too bad not all eps are like this.
I prefer the 1st 2 seasons, unfortunately. This one isn’t dark/serious enough…
I like the side story during ending theme, though.
Probably no season 4, I think.

I’m curious, what happened to Yuzuki after she disappeared though? :3
Welp, I only watched a smattering of episodes from the first two seasons, and this season makes me want to finish those series even less. I guess it wasn’t the worst ending I’ve ever seen, though I was expecting a lot more from the huge build-up and the fact that we had to sit through so many ridiculous episodes.
I think she turned into one of those flowers.
I dunno, I actually liked this seaso. I wasn’t expecting what happened at the end, and one shot stories abou thte dark side of humanity never get old to me^^ (reference: manga “confidential confessions” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidential_Confessions) Im up for more Ai. XD

Very disappointing season. Still tons of unanswered questions and unused plot devices that the fans want to see. This season teased us with Hajime, but did not show where Hajime had disappeared to or if he had died, it did not show what happened to Tsugumi between seasons 1 and 3 (she proved to be a useless character who was just here for the sake of hype), it did not show Kikuri’s origins, and it did not show what happened to Takuma, Hotaru, and Lovely Hills.
And Why the Hell hasn’t Hell Boy escaped from Hell to “finish the duel” like he said he would? He’s the most powerful character in the entire show aside from Ai and the Satan Spider, and was only beat in the first season because he was cursed. He was able to cast people into Hell without the help of powers given to him by the Spider, unlike Ai. He even the crap out of Ai and completely immobilized her assistants, imagine what they could do with a character like that….
This season has proved to be disappointing. They need to stop wasting budget on pretty animation and put more money into writing. I hope that next season focuses mainly on Tsugumi.
The animation was good; the the storyline was definately lacking. I half hope for a season 4, maybe it would fair a bit better than this.
AND WHERE WAS MY HELL BOY?!?!?!
I shall now go back and waste my downloads on the Jigoku Shoujo live action series.
Yes Mitsuganae has lacked of some better stories but in the end it’s Jigoku Shoujo ! and I remember back when I was watching the 1st season, the principal plot started to be explored in episode 22 or so ? In Mitsuganae the Yuzuki story arc begins in episode 19 or so, so I would say that more is achieved here !
Anyway I hope for a season 4 : Jigoku Shoujo Yotsu…. with maybe a little more action like in this final ep , Jigoku Shonen and Oba Chan again ^^
wait and see !
by the way, does anyone know if JS MItsuganae did good ratings in Japen for the whole season ?
thanks
Talk about disappointing, for some reason I kinda hoped that Yuzuki would become Jigoku Shoujo and stay Jigoku Shoujo. Hoping for a season 4 with better writing.
I should do like oTAKu and download the live action series. xD But I dunno where to get them from, anyone can help me?
Man, I don’t know why everyone likes the Hell Boy so much. I thought it was one of the lamest eps in Season 1.
Dueling for no reason. “famous in tv” vs “famous on the net”. Bleh…
Other than possibility of seeing awesome emo/sexy action like this eps featuring Ai, The series attracted me because of the series’ theme’s(potential) maturity.
I wanted dark and disturbing, hopefully more mature stuff. Still, the mystery behind Ai is no more and that’s part of the charm of the series… Maybe more back story on her while she was alive would work?
Having been pretty much an ordinary girl with some supernatural powers while she was alive, I doubt there would be anything particularly more interesting about Ai’s back story than what we have already seen. Then again, there might be something about her ancestors or even a previous life …
Not that there is a scarcity of mystery to go on: the nature of hell, why the Spider is the bastard it is, and for that matter, what’s going on in Ai’s head (even though I think I have some idea by now, I have a feeling that I really don’t have any idea what she’s thinking ^_^;; ).
And I suspect the whole Tsugumi/Hajime plot is intended to be very slowly revealed over a whole lot of seasons, so if Jigoku Shoujo ends up not being continued, we will never get to learn what had happened to Hajime …
it was a very beautiful episode (Something that I felt that HEll girl is good at..only the endings were gd)..particularly towards the end. well…i hope there is no season 4? ^^
The series was very comical, but it lacked some solid storyline. It didn’t explain what exactly happened to Hajime, how Yamawaro was recruited by Ai, why Hell Boy didn’t ‘finish the duel’ as Dante had said, … and so on and so forth. And man, I was hoping to see some deepness in this (like what happened in season 2).
And *fangirl screams* some yuri! xD I liked the animation in this episode, especially when Ai cried. *i cried too*
I hope there’s a season 4… it’s about time they answer all these questions. xD
At first,I didn’t like the ending at all. but after some re-watching i started to like it.
I mean..the mystery of Enma Ai wasn’t solved and all..but yuzuki’s story was. and i think that this is the main idea of this season. so this season ending was a end.
If i understood episode 24 right..i think that tsugumi destiny was to be jigoku shoujo too..but she didn’t go to the other side of the gate, unlike yuzuki.
if so,hajime might not know her anymore, like yuzuki’s friends didn’t know her.
but hajime could have been santed to hell or could be the old men from episode 14.
I want a 4th season that will explain what happened to hajime, who is ai’s grandma?,is kikuri the spider? or she is manipulated by him?.
I also want to know if ai saved more girls that their destiny was to be jigoku shoujo..and if that made her punishment longer. like now that the spider told her that she will be jigoku shoujo forever because she took yuzuki’s punishment.
I want another season
but its not up to me.
I think it needs back story like what happened to senterow when he escaped . why was ai chosen to be hellgirl what is kikuri back story or is she just the spider . I want to here more about ai’s grandama which side is she from mother of father. to upgrade the series i think it needs a little more battle and and wild suprizes ……….EXZAMPLE..hone onna has a long lost daughter
This ending… sucked.
I didn’t watch the episode yet.
The writing on many of the stories of this season could have been better. It could’ve been a lot better. Here’s hoping to… season 4?? What?
I guess their is not season 4, cause the last episode of season 3 is change to Ai again, and the next of episodes, Ai will come out everytime. She is the last of episode is tell you that Ai will still become Jigoku Shoujo.
i want the qustions answered i hope they have a 4th season
i think there’s gonna be season 4, ai is back right ? this show should continue forever… just wondering whats gonna happen in season 4…and 5…and 6… and lalala
I feel bad for Enma Ai as she has to continue her job. I would have preferred Yuzuki to take over, but nooo, no! Of course Ai will have to continue her work eternally.
Seriously.. what was the point of this season if Ai will anyway continue as jigoku shoujo?
“We had to sit through 26 episodes just to see Yuzuki’s emo angst fest get solved by some awesome yuri action from Ai? ” I couldn’t agree more!
But I think that there will be a fourth season. Probably.
What happen during the end credit?…why does the maid sent the girl to hell?…and what does it means by Ai is Yuzuki? Reincarnation?…I’m confused
Did you see episode 13?
And i think she meant that she is her like in the things that happend to both of them.
seeing a crying Ai made this whole season worth it…
hmm… season 3 was beyond expectations.
the ending too was kinda confusing, and i’m not that sure what happend to yuzuki next, still, the plot was extremely well done. Yuzuki was kinda boring at first like Shibata in season 1, but soon to episode 15+ of season 3, the plot seems to have a twist and went totally unexpected compared to season 1 & 2.
not to mention, the animation is time is better compared to the older seasons. Overall, i think it is a worth it to watch.
abit disappointing at the last part, can’t they do something else instead of a kiss?
Well…I don’t think it was a bad end, beacuse even if there’re still some questions to be answered and they can almost guarantee a 4th season, it still had a good climax that made up for the constant repetitive formula we have to endure sometimes for its bizarre nature, and the thing ended up pretty well because once again it let us with the feeling that there is no good nor evil in the JS world, and this could not have been better portraiyed without the re-telling of the Akie plot, because it shows a “victim”(Asuza) being “unfair” by sending Akie to hell, and then still not satisfied with that and being sent to hell when dead, she still went and killed the guy primarily at fault for her father’s death (The politician’s son). Next thing that happens, the maiden goes for revenge and sends her to hell starting the cycle all over again!!!
Simply awesome…And ultimately it lets us an Ai once again on bussiness and ready to answer why Tsugumi was a useless bi*ch these season, WHY Ai anyway came back and all, and WHERE is Hajime…???????Not to mention I NEED to see again Jigoku shounen, Jigoku hakase or Takuma in action…
Gosh, I’d send somebody to hell in exchange for the 4th season…
hi guys… is there season 4 already?
i thought that Yuzuki would be come Jigoku Shoujo. I hope they make another season^^
I have to say that I completely agree with the VERY FIRST POSTER HERE.
You were hilarious with those lines. I also thought what followed was completely amusing.
Quote: “Happy endings for everyone? OKAY. What exactly did we accomplish here?”
Especially the “OKAY”, XD!!!!
My only regret is that I’m just now commenting about this after finishing this series some 4 months and 15 days after you blogged this episode.
I have to say I personally share your feelings about this series as a whole. Not just this season but THE WHOLE 78 episodes (three seasons) of Jigoku Shoujo.
There were times when some episode were outright ridiculous, heck, even when I thought that pulling the string was ridiculous. Like the dog episode back in season 1.
But if I had any major complaints is that this series doesn’t offer any resolution. Sure there will always be spiteful/vengeful people but to give a system that can get out of control like it did at the end of season 2, as hilarious as it was, makes me really thankful for good ole justice systems.
Flawless or not. At least there are checks in the balances within the government to keep it from getting out of control where even innocent people disappear off the face of the planet.
Thanks for blogging this, Totali (no pun intended).
With this I’m off to the next world and more adventures i.e. anime series or whatever. =P
Until next time, Excelsior!
Oh, and “HEX NO I DON’T WANT ANOTHER SEASON!!!” Three was plenty enough, with 72-episodes.
It had a good run but I’m ready to move on to something else, something fresh completely and forever!!!
