Summary:

When Akari first arrived at the Aria Company, she was very enthusiastic about her new duties. While Alicia gazed at her over breakfast, Akari could only wonder what was wrong. Aika and Alice congratulate Akari on becoming a prima in the present time, but they are more concerned about the news of Alicia’s retirement. Akari mentions that this was suppose to happen earlier, but Alicia seemingly held off until Akari became a prima. Further more, Akari mentions the news of Alicia’s marriage that even she was surprised about. The girls are interrupted by a telephone call from Akatsuki who is extremely panicked about Alicia’s marriage, but soon after hanging up, Akari only wonders how the news has spread so quickly. As Alicia travels through the city, many of the inhabitants shower her with gifts. With her usual elegant appearance, she simply keeps a smile for everyone.

Aika and Alice wonder if Akari is okay at the Aria Company, so she assures them that she is. Akari recalls the busy days that were spent after the news of Alicia’s upcoming retirement, and how happy she was to spend the time with everyone. Because of this, she assures herself that she is okay. As Akari works on an assignment later, however, she turns to ask Alicia about a part she does not understand. Finding that Alicia is no where to be found, Akari is brought to tears. When Alicia finally returns, Akari mentions how no one wants her to retire. Unable to stop her tears, Akari states that everyone loves Alicia. Alicia embraces Akari, apologizing for her own selfishness throughout the past. Finally stopping her tears, Akari describes the different paths that everyone have chosen. She decides that she must do her best as well, and that she would like to see everyone with a smile.

On a later day, Akari serves a client named Anno Namihei. This is actually the old postman from before, who has also retired. Namihei describes how happy he is to have a ride with the prima Akari, assuring her that she would be okay after Alicia’s retirement ceremony. Akari describes this event to Alicia later that night, making Alicia believe that the time for Akari’s Aria Company has already come. The time for Alicia’s ceremony comes, so Athena and Akira escort her there. On the way, Alicia takes one look back at the Aria Company. Most of the city gathers to see Alicia’s ceremony, as several Undine clear the way for her. At the end, Alicia presents Akari with her oar before walking away from her gondola. Remembering the time she had first become a prima, Alicia is brought to tears. Snow begins to fall as if it were a miracle afterwards, perfectly representing the water fairy known as Snow White. As Alicia is relieved of her duties, the entire crowd applauds for her.

On a later morning, Akari almost believes she sees Alicia and the others at the company. These are only illusions, however, as Akari realizes that everyone’s feelings have gathered there. Opening the shutter to the company’s entrance, Akari believes she will experience her new beginning. Looking out into the beautiful world, Akari writes a letter to Ai about what has happened afterwards. Woody has frequently been visiting Akari with deliveries. Aika has been very busy at Himeya, but she still remains to be the crybaby she usually is when she visits Akari. Alice is very respected by those around her, but she continues to create silly rules for herself. Al has begun his studies, and he frequently spends time with Aika. Akatsuki has also begun his studies, and he sometimes appears at the Aria Company to spend time with Akari. Athena has begun displaying her spectacular voice at the opera, and Akira now shines as the number one prima on Aqua. Alicia has become very busy with company meetings, but she sometimes visits the Aria Company with Grandma.

After several years have passed, Ai becomes an Aria Company Undine under Akari. When Ai arrives for breakfast in her uniform for the first time, Akari is only able to gaze at her. Ai embarrassingly wonders what is wrong, so Akari simply tells her that she was just a bit happy.

Impression:

Oh my god. I was saying, “Ai better show up in the last episode again or I will be pissed,” but that was even more than I bargained for. What a perfect ending to a perfect series. Too many good things happened in this episode. From smiles to tears of joy, I couldn’t have wished for a better ending to such a wonderful series. I was probably as shocked as everyone else during the announcement of Alicia’s retirement (unfortunately, I was already spoiled about her marriage by somebody). It made perfect sense though, and the ceremony was a spectacular sight. I really enjoyed the parallels brought up with the beginnings, and how it all seemed to come full circle by the end. The Yui Makino insert was beautiful, and completely necessary for a wonderful Aria episode. Akari’s inner dialog somehow seemed more powerful than usual, and the epilogue revealed so many wonderful things. I can’t believe it has all finally ended. Although I am ridiculously overjoyed right now, I can’t help but be a bit sad.

Final Impression:

When I first heard about Aria, I wasn’t sure what I was suppose to expect from it. I didn’t think the description about Undine’s usual lives and gondolas was exactly the most exciting thing in the world, but I am the type that will watch any kind of anime at a given time. After watching the first episode, however, I was blown away. Early in my revival to anime fandom, there were a few slice of life series that probably tipped the tables into making this genre my overall favorite. Aria quickly became one of those. It is rare that you find a series that will truly change the way you think. Aria proved to be a work of art that simply showed how beautiful life could be. While Honey and Clover made me rethink the way I lived, Aria showed me a new perspective when observing the world around me.

Although my blog did not exist during the original Aria or Natural, I was lucky enough to spread my love when the OVA ~Arietta~ came out. This might have made me realize how small but dedicated the slice of life fanbase is, making me realize how much more attention these types of shows needed. When announcement of the third season of Aria came out, I was very excited at the chance to cover it along with the other established Aria fans. I’m glad I decided to do so, because watching Aria every week had the ability to completely relieve me of any stress I had while working in the real world.

With an incredible cast of characters and episodes that will never be forgotten, every season of Aria has easily made it to the top of my favorites list. Aria the Origination was no exception, as almost every episode seemed to get better with each week. Origination may have started moving the time that had always seemed stalled in Aqua, but the results were magnificent. This season probably allowed me to make a personal tribute to one of the most impacting anime I have ever watched, and being able to see it to the end was a real treat. I’m still in a state of euphoria after the last episode, and all I want to do now is play a Yui Makino track while reminiscing about times spent in Neo Venezia.

Summary:

Winter approaches in Neo Venezia, and Akari now only practices with Aika. Akari mentions to Aika that it somehow feels like the days when they first met, energetically hoping to become primas together. Aika is only able to apologize that she will no longer be able to practice with Akari anymore, but Akari becomes very excited and congratulates Aika when she discovers that she no longer has one glove on her hand. Aika is relieved at Akari’s reaction, but she has one more thing to tell her. Memories are brought up from Aika’s promotion, which was a tearful event for both her and Akira. Akari happily announces the news to Alicia at the Aria Company, revealing that Aika’s name would be the Rozen Queen. Alicia recalls Akira’s feelings about this event, and Akari further reveals the new duties Aika has at Himeya. After a bit of a pause, Alicia announces that Akari’s prima exam would be the next day. Akari is unable to sleep from anticipation, so she decides to go out and practice that night. Akari meets Akatsuki while rowing through the canals, who wishes her luck after hearing the news. After a bit more trouble with Akatsuki and Woody, Akari finally returns to the Aria Company.

It rains the next day, so Alicia suggests that they delay the exam. As she has always been waiting for this day, however, Akari suggests that it is okay as long as the weather clears up. When the rain finally stops, Akari and Alicia set off for the exam. As Akari takes Alicia throughout the city, they meet many of their acquaintances with happy faces. Alicia notices how skilled Akari has become, eventually showing her a narrow passage to enter. This is the narrowest passage Akari has ever faced, but she somehow does not feel worried at all. Closing her eyes for a moment, she realizes that it is because of the practice she experienced with her peers every day. Reaching the light at the end of the tunnel, Alicia presents Akari with her last course. Akari would choose her path, deciding what kind of prima she would like to become. When Akari finally reaches her goal, it is the Aria Company. The prima Akari would like to become is one like Grandma or Alicia. With this, Alicia describes how wonderful her world had become when Akari had appeared on Aqua. Calling her Aquamarine, Alicia removes the one glove from Akari’s hand. Akari celebrates her happiness now as a prima, but Alicia has one more important thing to talk to her about.

Preview: New beginnings.

Impression:

Perfect and beautiful. What other kinds of words could I use to describe this episode? Honestly, I did feel kind of ripped off at how Aika’s promotion was presented in the beginning. The last episode might have been the real announcement of it, but it just seemed like we got nowhere close to the impact that Alice had. I absolutely loved the title of the Rozen Queen though, and with that, everything started falling into place. President Aria’s interaction with Akari was as hilarious as ever, and Akatsuki’s dropped item came off as some pretty weird comic relief. The scenes were spectacular when Akari toured Alicia through the city, and the Makino Yui insert probably made my day. It was great that they displayed one of Akari’s traits so well, being her ability to get along with everyone around her. When Alicia described Akari’s future paths I was pretty close to tears. Akari’s title of Aquamarine seemed kind of strange to me at first, but it made me remember the parallels to the stone she held before and the ED’s visuals. Next week is the last episode, and I will probably be crying for multiple reasons once it is all over.

Summary:

In the Himeya company, Akira attempts to brainstorm names for Aika’s prima title. Overhearing some girls talk about Alice’s recent jump, Akira walks outside with a bit of frustration. While accompanying her throughout the day, Akira begins comparing Aika to Akari and Alice who pass by during the trip. After a successful job, Aika wonders if she has made a mistake because of Akira’s irritated look. Akira is unable to tell Aika what she is truly thinking, instead inviting her to a shop while she has free time. While walking with her, Akira finds that Aika is very enthusiastic about catching up to Alice. Akira attempts to comfort Aika in thought that she is forcing herself as usual, but discovers that Aika has actually been extremely inspired by Alice’s promotion. Thinking about their meeting of the past, Akira is finally convinced and relieved. Akira discovers that Aika is free on an upcoming holiday, so she has her cancel her meeting with Al in order to talk with her. Before leaving, Akira hands Aika the paper she was working on earlier. Realizing what this is, Aika is brought to tears of happiness. She quickly runs to Akira’s side, and the two walk back to the company hand in hand afterwards.

A few days after becoming a prima, Alice has become very busy. While doing well in guiding a couple through Neo Venezia, she becomes distracted at the sight of Aika and Akari doing their usual practice. Afterwards, she recalls that she has not been able to see the two at all ever since becoming a prima. Alice returns home quite late, which has been happening often as of late. She almost makes a call to her friends, but realizes that it would be strange to call for no reason. Athena sees Alice off the next morning, but is unable to avoid feeling concerned. Alice is somewhat lost in thought while serving a family during the day, but she enjoys herself thoroughly with them. At the end of the day, the couple’s child presents Alice with a piece of candy. This makes Alice blush a little, as she smiles while observing the world around her.

It begins to rain as Alice returns to the company. She observes that the days are hectic, but she feels very good at the end of each job. This gives her many things that she would like to talk about, but she is saddened when she believes that she will not be able to meet her friends anymore. Alice attempts to regain her composure, but realizes that she is very lonely. When Alice returns to her room, she is shocked to find Aika and Akari waiting for her. Enjoying pizza with them afterwards, Alice expresses the feelings she has had up to this point. It turns out that she had accidentally said these things out loud, so the girls encourage her. Alice despairs at the inability to find a reason to meet her friends, but she is put into shocking realization when the girls state that there does not need to be a reason to meet them. Looking out into the sky afterwards, Alice is finally assured that things would be alright with the friends she has.

Preview: Akari and Alicia episode!

Impression:

What’s your anti-drug!? So, I’ve been seeing a lot of burn out posts lately. Being in the game for almost a year now, I wonder if it’s just that I’ve been around enough to see these kinds of things. I personally find that type of thing kind of silly, since anime blogging has been kind of a stress reliever for me for quite awhile now. Maybe it helps that I kind of put off the strict schedules I set up for myself in the beginning, but who knows. Aria is also the perfect show to sit back and relax to after a long day, and I’m really glad that I decided to start covering my beloved slice of life shows in the Fall. I’ve found that I really like to talk about how the themes relate to life itself, so I guess expression also helps to calm the nerves!

Getting away from the random reflection, this episode was excellent. I’m still feeling a bit weirded out by the time starting to move in Aria, but the end result is nothing but amazing. I loved seeing the cheerful Aika during the first half of this episode, right down to the gobbling of gelato (For those of you who have never had this treat, it’s pretty much ice cream….but different). I’m really enjoying the character-centric episodes, and the tie-ins with some of the previous Akira/Aika episodes were awesome. Akari is great and all, but it seems like she’s all we really got for the most part in previous seasons. I couldn’t help but smile when Akira basically laid her plans to Aika, and the style change during that scene was quite fitting.

The second part of the episode, with the Orange Princess’s struggle, was very reminiscent to the similar problem previously revealed about the three water fairies. It was pretty easy to see that Athena could see through Alice’s hidden struggle, and I was impressed that she didn’t say anything throughout the entire span. The theme of change was beautiful, and even tear inducing. I actually haven’t read any of the Aria manga (yes, I am an insult to the fandom), but I can’t help but wonder if it can pull off the emotion as well as the animation can. Just the way Alice expressed that she was lonely was almost heart shaking. I should have seen the ending coming with its comic relief, but I think I had the same humorous surprise that Alice had. This show brings character attachment to the max, and I think that’s one thing that helps create such a wonderful experience for everyone. With only two episodes left, I think I may actually be crying for other reasons soon.

Summary:

Aika and Akari decide to spy on Alice to see how she is doing now that she is a prima. Alice is able to please all of her customers, but the girls see that she is very nervous throughout the day. Alice eventually finds out that the girls have been watching her, but instead of being angry, she asks for a clear report on how she appeared. Hearing from Aika that she was stiff like a robot, Alice worries to herself again. To change the atmosphere, Akari suggests that they watch the moon later. While the girls sit outside the Aria company that night, they enjoy dangos due to the tradition on Man-Home. After the girls enjoy themselves in their usual way, Aika brings up that Al is late. Alice wonders when it was decided that he was coming, causing quite a bit of embarrassment for Aika. With this, Aika leaves to check on Al. In her absence, Alice takes the chance to thank Akari for the night. Shortly after, she wonders where Maa has wandered off to.

Out in the city, Aika finally finds Al. Al explains that he was late because of work, but he is also thankful because he was given the chance to watch the moon in his current state while walking Aika. Aika jumps on top of a well in her excitement, but she falls through the wood as it suddenly breaks. When Al attempts to help Aika out, he ends up becoming trapped along with her. The two continue trying to escape, but find that it is impossible. After discussing the past use of the well for awhile, Aika and Al are relieved to see President Maa above them. Aika attempts to get Maa to call Alice for them, but her orders to not seem to reach the kitten. Seeing the moon above them, Aika wonders about its appearance on Aqua. Al ends up giving a scientific explanation about this, giving Aika her usual thoughts about him. Aika is troubled when she bumps Al a little, and continues to become nervous as they sit in silence.

Al continues to bring up detailed conversation about the moon and other things, making Aika state that this is not allowed. After awhile, Al mentions how dark it is inside of the well. This makes Aika realize Al’s fear of the dark despite the work he does, making her tease him for a bit. The two are suddenly able to see the two moons above them, and Aika is only able to notice its beauty. After hearing Al’s explanation about the moons’ distance between each other, Aika is brought to tears because of her own situation with Al. When Al finishes his reasoning about the phenomenon, however, Aika’s mood changes. Before Aika is able to make a move, her stomach rumbles to ruin the moment. Akari and Alice appear soon after to save the two, teasing Aika for a bit on the way back. Al grasps Aika’s hand on the way there, surprising Aika and putting a smile back on her face. Reaching the Aria Company again, everyone enjoys themselves in the moonlight.

Preview: Alice makes a dramatic call in the rain about the hat Aika lost….just kidding.

Impression:

orz. I almost thought Al was going to turn out to be another typical dense male of anime, but the ending definitely changed my mind. Anyways, this episode was pretty great. I would say that I expected a little more after the constant stream of excellent episodes we’ve been having until now, but this episode was fine by itself. Being an Aika and Saito Chiwa fan definitely helped too though. There were a lot of funny parts to this episode, especially with President Aria’s usual antics and the dangos. I always like to imagine what the seiyu felt like while doing those types of scenes. There was a bit of continuation from the last episode towards the beginning with Alice’s advancement. I thought the moon viewing was a really great way to transition Alice’s struggle with her new position, though it looks like it may continue in the next episode as well. The rest of the episode was all around beautiful, especially with the parallel between the two moons and Aika’s relationship with Al. Love power! With only a few episodes left, I’m not sure if I want to be sad for excited anymore…I’ll be enjoying it till the end though.

Summary:

When Alice walks outside after her graduation ceremony, a girl comes up with the courage to ask for her second button. Alice agrees to, but she finds that many others are envious of this afterwards. Alice discovers that Aika and Akari are there to congratulate her on graduating as well, so she thanks them in return. Alice walks backwards while following the girls home as a final challenge, but she fails when they see Athena pass by. Alice states that it is fine, however, as time stopped when Athena appeared. Alice is surprisingly energetic when the girls practice together later, and Alice happily decides that she will be making up for the time she lost while she was forced to attend class. When Alice returns home, she tells Athena that she feels as if she can accomplish anything now. Looking out into the sunset, Athena suggests that they go on a picnic the next day.

Preparations are perfect the next day before the two set out. Athena suggests that she will be a passenger for the day, so Alice agrees to play the role of the Undine. Athena is surprised when Alice puts on an excellent smile while offering her hand, but Alice credits this to studying every day with those around her who have the greatest smiles. Athena notices how well Alice knows all of the attractions around the area, and Alice credits this to the strict training she has followed from her seniors. The girls travel through a waterway next, stopping to the side as a large boat passes. The girls finally stop to eat, enjoying themselves for just a bit before heading back out.

When the girls reach the water lift, they are forced to wait just a bit because of a previous user. A Himeya Undine wishes Alice luck as she leaves the lift, surprising Alice a bit. Athena suggests that Alice rest for awhile while riding the elevator, taking the chance to praise her skills. Alice begins describing the difficulties she has with actions such as singing, however, and how her mind goes blank when she thinks about this. Athena states that if someone is troubled about their singing, then the passengers would feel troubled as well. Athena tells Alice that the most important thing is for her to love her own song, implying what would happen if even she did not enjoy her own voice. Alice takes these words to heart, when the two reach the top.

While the girls continue on, they observe the beautiful sunset in the distance. Athena describes what the planet was like before it was called Aqua, and its orange color that brought nostalgia to the inhabitants. A bit further down, Alice sees that many people are already in the area. This includes Akari, Aika, Orange Planet directors, and a Gondola Association member. While Alice wonders what the meaning of this is, Athena thanks her for the day. She asks for one more thing, however – a song. Confidently preparing herself, Alice wonders if her passenger has heard of the three great water fairies. She states that she has learned from the one known as Siren, as she beginning to sing.

Everyone is amazed while Alice sings, and many memories pass of the the time she has spent with everyone up to this point. When she finishes, the group gives great applaud. Alice states that although she could not sing well before, she had loved to sing in her childhood. Athena had brought back these memories to her, so Alice thanks her. In response, Athena takes a glove from Alice’s hand. However, Aika and Akari are shocked when she begins taking the other off as well. Athena announces that Alice will be known as the Orange Princess from now on, a Prima Undine. Now in tears, Alice falls into Athena’s arms. Aika and Akari also call out to her, congratulating her under the beautiful orange sky.

Preview: Al gets assaulted or something.

Impression:

Holy crap!!! I freaked. I freaked just like Akari and Aika. I was actually spoiled about this by certain people around the blogsphere earlier, but that didn’t lessen the impact it had on me at all. Wow, this episode was excellent. With Alice graduating from school, I already found it strange that time had started moving in Aria. I also expected something amazing. I loved Alice’s statement about time stopping when Athena was around, even though this might have proved to be the opposite by the end of the episode. The flashbacks during Alice’s song were a perfect way to show how much Alice had developed, and I definitely started feeling nostalgic while seeing the scenes from the first season. It’s funny that I usually don’t go into episodes with specific expectations, because I did not expect anything from Athena’s leading Alice out for a day. The orange sky played in perfectly, and my eyes were wide open when both gloves came off. I guess I’ll have to agree with everyone else that the series will end with this season. I am sad, but I am also extremely excited to see everything wrap up. It looks like Alice will be struggling with her new position for a bit in the next episode, but I’m hoping for Aika to have a turn at development next.

Summary:

During the girls’ usual rounds, a conversation is brought up by Alice about how she will be spending her time with Athena the next day. Akari and Aika become surprised that it was not Athena who suggested the event, but Alice. Alice begins making preparations for the next day when she gets home, such as a map of events and lunch plans. Alice takes a bath with President Maa shortly afterwards, then finding that Athena has returned home when she is done. She discovers that she is asleep, however, and assumes that she is very tired when she does not answer her calls. Alice simply leaves the note that she wrote on Athena’s pillow, before going to sleep herself. She is woken by the sound of Athena leaving the room later, however, making Alice worried about Athena going to work that morning.

Alice waits with President Maa during the day, but Athena does not return until much later in the day. Holding the letter in her hand, Athena aplogizes to Alice and attempts to convince her that they can still go out at the moment. Alice wonders why Athena is apologizing, as she starts leaving the room. Athena turns to stop her, but she slips on a banana peel from President Maa. Meanwhile, President Aria accidentally breaks a cup in the Aria Company. Akari panics at this, but she is sent to answer the ringing phone while Alicia takes care of the mess. On the other end of the line is Alice, who announces a big S.O.S..

When Akari and Alicia visit Alice, they find that Athena is acting very distant from them. Alice explains what happened after Athena fell over, and it turns out that she is suffering from amnesia. Akari notices that even Athena’s personality has changed, then suggesting to Alice that a clinic may be the first priority. The group finds that Athena remembers President Aria’s name shortly afterwards, however. Athena does not remember Alice or Akari’s names when they test her, but she does remember Alicia. Without giving a proper explanation, Alicia suggests that they just watch over Athena for the day. If she does not become well after that, they would take her to a clinic.

After Alicia leaves, Akari wonders if they should take Athena to familiar places to improve her memory. Seeing that she is now very tidy and responsible, however, Alice almost believes that it would be better for her memories to stay gone. When the girls visit a shop Athena usually frequents, they find that she remembers President Maa’s name after seeing a dish she usually has. Athena still cannot remember Alice’s name, however, so Alice angrily suggests that they go back to the Orange Planet after finishing. Alice has Athena pick out her oar out of many at the company, and Athena amazes the girls by picking hers out successfully. She remembers Akari’s name afterwards, but Alice despairs that this came before hers. The girls begin heading to the Aria Company to meet Alicia, but Akari finds that Alice is still troubled over being the only one who cannot be remembered.

Once the girls reach the Aria Company, Athena meets a troubled Alice outside. She begins asking what she was to Alice, and if she was hated or liked by her. Alice begins falling into tears, so Alicia appears to wonder if Athena has done enough. Athena agrees, finally revealing that her having amnesia was a lie. Athena reveals how troubled she was about how Alice thought about her, and that faking amnesia was her plan to find out how she really felt. With a little bit of tears left in her eyes, Alice states that she really hates this part of Athena. While Athena chases after Alice in apology, Akari wonders if Alicia had realized the situation the whole time. Akari is surprised that even one of the great water fairies could become troubled, but Alicia states that they are normal girls as well. Akari wonders if Alicia is ever troubled about her as well, but Alicia keeps this a secret.

Preview: Another Aria adventure~

Impression:

Did Impz die? Probably. With all of the “T.T uhhhh~” and crying, I almost fell for Alice too. Having Aika being exempt from most of the episode didn’t help! I definitely teared up during the final scene too, and I am continually amazed by how well the seiyu and directors do on this show. I still can’t help but think in the back of my mind about how these situations are set up though. If someone had amnesia, wouldn’t you tell them your name rather than wait for the person to remember it? I realize that storytelling is always set up this way though, and there’s definitely no complaining when it is presented so perfectly.

Even though her actions were very strange as usual, Athena’s methods of finding out how Alice thought of her were spectacular. Athena and Alice’s interaction is always a treat to watch, especially with Alice struggling to be herself like most anyone does. Some of the great animation work shown during a lot of the scenes just enhanced the great feelings I had, especially while Alice was sitting at the Aria Company. I feel like Aria is moving just a bit faster now development-wise this season, with things like Alicia revealing similar thoughts to what she had in episode six. Alicia is becoming more real, even blushing in front of her junior! Speaking of juniors and seniors, I’ve totally been getting spoiled by Shirukii lately. Why do people have to write awesome blogs that I feel required to read? What a jerk! The next episode looks like another mystifying feel good episode, but all I can think about for next week is spring break…

Summary:

Akari, Alicia, and President Aria take the day off to visit Grandma. As the three reach another part of Aqua, Akari notices many spectacular things that she has not seen in Neo Venezia. There are things like bicycles, different colored houses, and beautiful garments. Alicia mentions the acquaintance she once had who wore one of the wedding dresses, Anna, and amazes Akari by telling her that she was an even busier person than herself. Akari and Alicia reach their destination, a gated house surrounded by a garden, but they find that no one answers to their call. Alicia recalls that they should be on time, when the girls see a boy observing them from not too far away. The boy runs away after being noticed, but Akari chases after him in hopes of asking him a question. Akari finds the boy running behind his mother, which happens to be Alicia’s senior Anna. Akari gets introduced to Anna, and also learns that the boy is her son Ahito.

Akari finally sees all of the beautiful things inside the house, and when the girls sit down for tea, Alicia recalls how Anna met her husband. When Anna had left the Aria Company, she was already pregnant. Anna recalls how hard it was to get used to her new life after marriage, but the female residents nearby had taught her new things. Anna greets her husband Albert when she hears the doorbell ring, but is surprised to also find Grandma outside. Albert has brought a lot of good seafood, so the girls quickly go to prepare it. When dinner is ready, everyone enjoys the great food to their fullest. Albert, Ahito, and President Aria fall asleep after their meals, leaving the girls to talk over dessert and tea.

Akari realizes that there are many things she does not know about the time before she joined the Aria Company, but Grandma is happy about Akari’s being the newest addition to their company. The girls recall that many great things have happened because of the company, and Anna credits this to Grandma’s founding of it. Grandma states that she was not alone in creating the company, however, and that President Aria played a big role in this. Alicia wonders if Grandma could tell more about this, so she tells her about the days when she was still a member of Himeya.

Grandma was known as the ace of Himeya, Akino, who was well respected by everyone in the company. Akino had been doing her rounds as usual, but she could not help but notice President Aria constantly sitting in one place by the water. She one day began asking many things about him, but found that President Aria would only continue to stare out into the sea. Akino took the chance to sit next to President Aria, apologizing for asking him so many things all of a sudden. This is when she realized how many things she had been losing while working constantly. There were so many wonderful things in the world to experience.

Akino finally asked what President Aria was always doing in the one spot he was sitting at, wondering if he was waiting for something important. When it started pouring heavily on another day, Akino walked out to find President Aria still standing in the single spot. She wondered what he was waiting for, but President Aria still would not budge. Akino ended up spending the night covering President Aria from the rain. Because of him, Akino was finally able to realize how much she had been pushing herself. The Aria Company was then founded, and it was the start of everything. Grandma makes Akari realize that the day would come when she would be the one creating new experiences for the Akari Company. With all of the girls’ support, Akari promises that she will do her best.

Preview: Athena S.O.S.!

Impression:

“What is it that you are waiting for?” …What powerful words, and presented in such a masterful way. I was definitely tearing up by the end of this episode, which a lot of you have already admitted to doing while watching this show. No, you are not alone. Those are tears of joy from watching something beautiful, just proving how excellent the storytelling in this series is. I was already expecting a wonderful episode after seeing last week’s preview, and even Aria merch master Adun had confirmed to me how great it was going to be. Just when I think this series cannot get any better, it does. And it does over and over again.

Meeting Anna and her son could have made a great story on its own, but the real treat started when Grandma began telling the story of the Aria Company’s founding. Grandma used to be in Himeya!? She had a name, Akino!? Yes, I was shocked. I wasn’t shocked by the respect she received during those days though. It seems like everyone from the Aria Company is destined to be amazing and inspirational. President Aria was awesome in this episode too, even with his usual silliness. Aria does not age! (…You can probably take that sentence in more than one way.) The alternate version of “Torikago no Yume” by Arai Akino just added to the joy in this episode. Akino singing an insert during an Akino scene…coincidence? I think not. The next episode hints towards some more Alice and Athena action, so it should be fun as always.

Summary:

While they are shopping in the market, Alice is forced to pick up some of the things Athena carelessly leaves behind. The two run into Akari and Aika shortly afterwards, who have been having their own troubles. Writing her usual letter to Ai, Akari tells of how she has been scolded again. The two understand the importance of this punishment, but they both wish that they could avoid it if possible. As the girls have their usual practice later, Akari follows what she believes is President Aria’s special training. Aika quickly warns her that Alicia will scold her if she continues doing such silly things, which surprises Alice a bit. When Alice asks Akari how Alicia goes about scolding her, Akari realizes that she may have never been scolded by Alicia. Akari brings up that she has never seen Alice be scolded either, but Alice believes that this is a given.

A curious Alice later sneaks to the Aria Company, believing that Alicia would properly scold Akari at some point. Akari and Alicia eventually detect Alice, though she pretends that nothing is going on. Alice returns to spy on the two the next morning, but Alicia does not scold Akari no matter how many mistakes she makes. Finishing work early in the afternoon, Alicia invites Aika and Akari for a drink. The two mention that Alice supposedly had work, but Alice is forced to reveal herself from spying when President Aria finds her. Akari accidentally breaks one of Alicia’s favorite cups, but the girls find that Alicia is only glad that all the girls have no injuries. The girls suddenly find that Akari’s gondola is loose, so Alice believes that such a miss would be a big chance. Alicia simply goes out to get the gondola, however, finding a proper reason for its getting loose. Alice believes that Alicia would have scolded Akari if it was really her fault, but she questions herself when she sees Alicia’s bright smile.

After a week has passed, Alice starts to believe a huge miss from Akari would be the only thing to change Alicia’s attitude. While she sits down to enjoy a parfait, she unfortunately finds Alicia sitting just ahead of her. Alice suspects that Alicia must be very mad and ready to punish her, but Alicia only brings up that this is the first time the two have been alone together. Brining up Alice’s recent actions, Alicia eventually does wonder if she wishes to ask her something. With this, Alice finally asks why Alicia does not scold Akari. Alicia does not give her a simple answer. Instead, she gives President Aria the task of giving a piece of candy to the little girl sitting some distance from them. President Aria takes quite awhile to figure out his task, but he eventually succeeds. Alicia praises him, giving him a similar task afterwards. The second time around, he does his job much faster. Alicia wonders what Alice sees in this, suggesting that they take a walk together.

Alice finally asks why Alicia would not tell President Aria of his mistakes. Alicia explains that if she kept on pointing out President Aria’s mistakes, he would eventually become afraid and have difficulty succeeding. Taking President Aria happily in her arms, Alicia simply states that this is her way of doing things. Alice next wonders what Alicia would do if her student continued to fail multiple times. Alicia states that she would assist in learning, as she is an imperfect human herself. Alicia explains that failing and learning are similar things, and she would like to happily support her junior. Aika and Akari coincidentally show up in this moment, so Alicia tells Alice to keep their conversation a secret. When Alice wonders why, Alicia states that it is because it is embarrassing. Alice believes that there is no reason to keep this a secret, however, as the situation is already embarrassing.

Preview: Grandma returns! A story of the past?

Impression:

I think we all saw the message Alicia gave coming, but that did not make it any less great. What a great concept to play on, with the perfect character to describe it. What Alicia said was very true, and it makes me wonder why so little people approach things in this way. I guess not everyone can be as amazing as the girls of Neo Venezia. Everyone should watch Aria. It would do the world a lot of good! This episode had me smiling and giggling all throughout, even from the beginning with Athena’s hilarious clumsiness. President Aria was extra funny with his amazing detection skills, and I loved watching Alicia’s interaction with him. Alice’s sad attempt at hiding her spying was too cute, and her finally meeting with Alicia was the perfect conclusion.

I think this may be the first time Alicia has revealed so much about how she thinks, and it really puts an interesting edge on her seemingly perfect appearance. I wonder if Alice’s own kind of perfection had something to do with this. How does Aria’s writer come up with this genius!? The one thing I found kind of silly about this episode was how so many things went so wrong all of a sudden. I know it was to enforce the concept that was being presented, but it was hard to believe that so many things could go wrong simultaneously. The next episode looks extremely interesting, putting more focus on the older times of Neo Venezia. I can’t believe how good these episodes are getting!

Summary:

The time has come for the Undine to change their outfits according to the weather. While practicing with the girls as usual, Aika brings up Akari’s recent Traghetto experience. Akari confirms this, making Aika determined as usual. The girls begin searching for a bread shop in the market, when Athena passes by in the water nearby. Singing her beautiful song, those around her are quickly put at ease. A girl loses her hat to the wind afterwards, but luckily for her, Alicia is nearby to catch it for her. Alicia leaves after politely returning the hat to the girl, and Aika notices that the salesgirl next to her is as amazed as she is. The girls finally get to eating, and a discussion about their seniors is brought up. When Alice describes Athena and Alicia’s talents as unobtainable, Aika becomes troubled. She wonders about Akira, but Alice and Akari believe that she is just as amazing because of her hard working personality.

As the girls get back to practice, Alice shows her two seniors some impressive skills. When Akari’s turn comes up, many citizens around her compliment her new summer outfit. Alice expresses how this always happens, as Akari seems to be on good terms with everyone in the city. Of course, Akari believes this is wonderful. Aika almost gives Akari her usual scolding, but she again becomes troubled when red petals begin falling in front of her. Remembering Alice’s words from earlier, Aika cannot help but become troubled. After seeing her two friends off that afternoon, Aika disappointingly states to herself that hard work is not a gift. Aika finds a heap of items in the hall when she arrives home, as well as an energetic Akira. She tries to get past this, but eventually gives in to helping out with the chores.

Aika finds a photo album while finishing up some work, noticing an old picture of the three water fairies. She sees that Akira is the only one who remained a single in the photo, and Akira confirms that she was the last one to become a prima. Aika emotionally wonders how Akira can laugh about this, as she believes that it would have been painful and hard to deal with. Akira states that she did not have any talents like Alice or Athena, so it was a given that something like that would happen. Aika wonders if it wasn’t painful, but Akira confirms to her that it was. Aika wonders how Akira can be so strong, so Akira decides to tell Aika a story.

It was the day that Athena had become a prima. Akira had congratulated Athena, and Alice decided that Athena’s turn would be next. She smiled at the time, but could not help but be troubled once she reached home. Wandering around the city, Akira wondered when it was that she became alone. She recalled that she was unlike her two friends, in that she was not born with any special talents. She had found a large amount of clovers, but could not find a four leafed one. This made her wonderful further more about if she was destined to be a normal person, unable to become a prima. She wondered what she should do, but her thoughts were interrupted by a young Aika.

Realizing what she was doing, Aika attempted to search for a four leafed clover as well. She could not find one either though, so she suggested that Aika give up. She suggested that it couldn’t be helped if something could not exist, and these words hit Akira harder than they were intended to. Aika then suggested that if something did not exist, she could simply create it, taking a rose petal to create a four leafed clover. She stated that she actually preferred this, calling the single rose petal Akira’s heart. This finally made Akira realize her place, as she gained the inspiration to approach her friends and obtain comparable skills. Aika is extremely moved by this story in the present, making Akira realize that Aika does not remember that she was the girl of the past. Akira decides to give the rose petaled four leaf clover to Aika, which in turn makes Aika wonder if the rose petal is what made Akira chose her famous title. Akira refuses to give her a direct answer, but Aika is overjoyed all the same. When Aika returns to practice with her friends later, she has returned to being her usual energetic self.

Preview: Is it Alice’s turn to have an episode?

Impression:

Woah, this season of Aria just keeps getting better! As a resident Aika lover, this episode was 100 percent win. It’s funny, because I’m usually not a tsundere type character fan. I would usually lean more towards the dumb main character types like Akari, but Aika just has something amazing going for her. Every time I see her go emo (which happened multiple times in this episode), my heart stops. It was quite awesome seeing Akira in a casual get up, and even more awesome learning about the important role Aika played in her past. That caught me completely off guard, not even gonna lie. Akari herself said some amazingly powerful lines during the story, and I was blown away when they added this to the great shot composition they used throughout the episode. Hey, when you’re operating on scenery porn, I guess it is a necessity to have things look good like that.

The theme of this episode was, of course, extremely powerful. I love how all of the company’s girls share talents and thoughts that relate to their seniors, which was represented quite well in this episode. Akira’s inner struggles were represented beautifully, as they were a reflection of Aika’s. Again looking to real life situations, it’s hard not to empathize with Aika. I think everyone has felt like they could not compete or keep up with their peers’ talents at some point or another. Maybe that’s why I like Aika so much. She’s the most normal, using her heart work and energetic drive to succeed beside the two talents beside her. Learning to create your own talents is an important life lesson, and you just learned it from Aria. Yea, who said anime doesn’t teach you great things? It looks like the focus will shift to Alice next week, which I know will make at least one person happy. Alice looks kind of like Impz, huh?

Summary:

On a day with good weather in Neo Venezia, Akari gets to work as usual with President Aria. After assisting Alicia with many customers throughout the day, Akari realizes how busy Alicia’s schedule is. Alicia notices that Akari is troubled that night, so she wonders what is wrong. Akari expresses her wish to help Alicia more, but Alicia states that she has helped plenty. When Alicia asks about Akari’s gondola practice, Akari tells Alicia that she is off the next day because of Aika and Alice’s schedules. After learning this, Alicia suggests to Akari that she attend the Traghetto. What this means to Akari is that she will be driving a gondola with people she has not met before and serving many customers with them. Akari quickly gathers with the other singles upon reaching the gathering place in the morning, but ends up with the last remaining Undine because of her constant pondering. One of the girls there offers Akari a piece of candy after seeing how nervous she is, and goes on to introduce herself as Atora of Orange Planet. Finding that this is the first time Akari is doing a Traghetto, Atora asks the girl named Ayumi from Himeya about possible plans. After deciding on a rotation plan, Ayumi energetically introduces herself to Akari. Anzu from Orange Planet takes a chance to introduce herself as well, though she does not seem very talkative afterwards.

As Anzu and Ayumi prepare the gondola they will be using, Atora and Akari call out to customers. Akari notices that there are groups of regulars arriving, some of which are surprised to see Akari as as new face. As Anzu and Ayumi set off with their customers, Atora explains to Akari that Anzu has not been energetic lately. The reason for this is that she has recently failed her Prima exam. Atora expresses how hard it is to become a prima, even more so because of their strict superiors. Azumi switches with Atora upon the gondola’s return, and Akari learns that Azumi actually prefers staying as a single and serving customers at the Traghetto. Akari is finally left with Anzu upon the next switch, so Anzu tells Akari about her recent failing of her exam. Anzu guesses that Akari is aiming to be a prima as well, but Akari tells her about her own hesitation. Akari states that she wants to continue challenging herself like Anzu, however, making Anzu smile. Finally lightened up, Anzu begins asking Akari questions about Alicia’s personality.

Akari is finally rotated in to driving the gondola with Anzu, and the other girls notice her amazing skill when she sets off. As Akari continues to help throughout the day, she witnesses all of the happy events that go on with those who usually use the Traghetto as transportation. While the girls put the gondola to sleep that night, Akari notices how preciously the girls treat it. The girls express how amazing Akari was throughout the day in return, going on to praise the Aria Company. They thank Akari for helping them despite being so busy at the Aria Company, and Ayumi guesses that she may be a prima by the next time they meet. This reminds Anzu of her own situation, but Atora expresses that it is just their superior that is too strict. Guessing that she will never be accepted, Atora believes that it won’t be bad to continue doing Traghetto with Ayumi. Ayumi states that their situations are different, however, as Atora really wants to become a prima. In response, Anzu stands up to reveal her revelation to keep on going and her belief that she will eventually be able to become anything. Ayumi guesses that it may be too late, but Akari goes on to assure her that it is never too late to start. The girls express their happiness with this assurance, and all head home with smiles on their faces. Akari thinks to herself that she will continue moving forward no mater what happens, arriving home at the Aria Company to tell Alicia about the fun time she had at the Traghetto that day.

Preview: This isn’t Honey and Clover…

Impression:

Wow. Moments in anime like this are what I live for. Seriously. Ok, maybe that’s a bit extreme. Wait, no it’s not. Anyways, this episode was much better than I could have hoped for it to be. I didn’t think it would be bad at all, so that just proves how great this was. The three Undine that were introduced were much more interesting that I thought they were going to be, again proving how much thought is put into all of the characters that are introduced in Aria. I recognized Kuwashima Houko and Shiraishi Ryoko’s voices instantly as Atora and Ayumi. I recognize Anzu’s voice from somewhere too, but it’s driving me crazy that I can’t point it out. The theme of moving forward was just awesome, and I loved how Akari was able to hear all of the girl’s stories. The prima talk returned, which seems to be one of the few themes that make’s Aria’s story seem to go forward. As most will say, I love Aria because I feel like time stops while I watch it. Everyone has to remember Akari and the other girls’ goals as well. Speaking of Akari, her usual mystifying skills were a pleasure to watch. It feels like it’s been too long since we’ve seen her skills. Add the bgm track to those scenes, and I found myself with a smile on my face by the end of the episode yet again. It looks like there will be some Aika action next week, so I obviously can’t wait for that.
