Summary:

A butterfly lands on Tamaki’s blade as she practices in the morning. She wonders what she should do, when it flies off by itself. Looking out into the sky, she realizes that the spring has come. Tamaki later waits nervously in the city, finally meeting Rin as scheduled. The two grab a bite to eat first, then discussing to each other how they are doing in school and with practice. Rin again suggests that she will not lose their next match, and Tamaki agrees to do her best. The two finally see the Blade Braver movie on the big screen, leaving with passionate smiles on their faces. Rin suggests that Braver might have looked a little cool, and Tamaki believes that Schneider was too. In her home that night, Kirino wonders about her soon becoming a third year.

A boy named Makoto and a girl named Shinobu approach the dojo at school the next morning. Although Makoto is hoping to join a club as a first year, Shinobu is not very enthusiastic about joining the kendo club. When the two enter the dojo, they find that Tamaki is the only one inside. Tamaki allows the two to wait inside, but she nervously waits until someone else arrives. Satori arrives next, but she also wonders what she should do to keep the new students interested. After being called upperclassmen by the two, Tamaki and Satori excitedly attempt to entertain Makoto and Shinobu. Shinobu is disappointed that the two are not doing anything related to kendo, when Miyako arrives to preform her own stunts.

When the boys arrive in the room, Makoto wonders if Yuji is the club’s president. However, Danjuro is surprisingly revealed to hold that position. Shinobu prepares to leave, but she falls because of sitting on her feet for two long. Shinobu then expresses her dislike in kendo, because there is no meaning to it. With this, Tamaki steps up to state that this is not true. All at once, the kendo club claims that kendo is fun. As Satori and Kirino arrive just in time, they prepare to show the new students what kendo is really about. While watching everyone face each other, Shinobu notices that everyone seems like a different person while doing kendo. Over that, Makoto believes that everyone looks like they are having fun. Danjuro mentions that Makoto looks like a himself of the past, before having the team stop.

Makoto and Shinobu are impressed by the team, especially by Tamaki, but Makoto wonders if they would be able to obtain such levels. Kirino suggests that would come with practice, and that their teacher is the least skilled anyways. The kendo instructor is currently Yoshikawa-sensei, but after arriving late, she soon announces to the team that she will be taking a break because of having a baby. The whole team congratulates her, but they soon wonder who will be taking her place. Yoshikawa suggests that there is another instructor who is good at kendo, when Kenzaburo enters. Kenzaburo is only Yoshikawa’s husband, and the real instructor is introduced as Ishida himself. He attempts to pretend that he is Blade Braver, but he is soon overwhelmed by Kirino and the rest of the team’s happiness.

Ishida and the others explain to the kendo team how he was able to regain his position, and Ishida notices the two new students soon after. When Makoto and Shinobu introduce themselves, the team is shocked to find that they are both siblings of Tomoya and Iwasa. Kirino greatly hopes that the two will join for their older siblings’ share as well, so the two agree to think about it. Ishida prepares the team to practice as he returns with his things, and Kirino is brought to tears at the sight of the doll she made for him. Shinobu notices that everyone in the room seems like they are friends with each other, as the usual club activities go on.

When they gather that night, Kenzaburo wonders what Ishida had been doing up until this point. Ishida describes all of the jobs he had worked with Nobu’s help, all of which were quite tough. The next morning, Tamaki’s father decides to have a match with his daughter for the first time in awhile. He notices how strong she has become, but he still does his best to face her. While riding to school, Tamaki recalls all of the events she has went through during the previous year of kendo. With a smile on her face, she tells her mother that she has become a second year student. Tamaki loves kendo.

ED: “BAMBOO BEAT” by Ryou Hirohashi, Megumi Toyoguchi, Sachiko Kojima, Houko Kuwashima & Rina Satou – We are shown how the entire casts’ lives have gone on during the second year. At the end, Tamaki meets a new rival at a competition.

Impression:

Noooo! I was already freaking out after hearing Saito Chiwa playing the new student Shinobu, and I had a smile on my face throughout the entire episode. Everything just fell into place so perfectly, and I’m surprised that they even managed something of a time skip. I loved seeing Rin and Tamaki’s date, especially with the double starry eyes after the movie. The new students are a perfect set up for more development in the new year, and the new girl at the end just has me screaming for more. Danjuro was hilariously awesome as the new club president, and I was really surprised to find out that Yoshikawa was married to Kenzaburo (I thought she had the hots for Ishida). But yea, I call a sequel. I don’t care if I have to wait two or three years to see it. I will watch it. The ending was just a perfect set up for continuation, and I’m way too lazy to pick up the manga.

Final Impression:

Before Bamboo Blade started in the fall, I was interested in the appearance of another love comedy/harem type show. I was quickly corrected by manga readers, in that this was not that type of show at all. I still looked into it with a bit of hesitation, but I was quickly surprised at how interesting and fun the first episode was. Deciding to keep up with the series, I was continually overjoyed at how wonderful each episode had me feeling by the end. Bamboo Blade turned out to be a heart warming slice of life type story, with characters that could be appreciated on many different levels. The tournaments were extremely exciting, but the best parts of the show continued to be watching the team members carry on with their normal lives.

It’s funny, but my final impressions for this season have just not come off as solid as they have in the past. I just don’t feel like anything is really ending. The end of Bamboo Blade simply suggested a sequel in the future, and I am so ready to watch it. Unfortunately, the manga has not progressed very far ahead of where we are. Still, when the time comes, I will be very excited to see more. Until then, I’ll never forget all the wonderful events and characters of Bamboo Blade.

Summary:

After paying her respects to her mother, Tamaki announces her departure with blade in hand. The kendo club finds their way to the bus taking participants to the tournament, and Yuji notices that Tamaki is a bit nervous on the ride there. Miyako sees Carrie on the way, instantly becoming enraged. When the club reaches their destination, Ishida remembers memories of his own competition at the very location. He meets Kenzaburo while at the site, and the two discuss their activities as usual. The kendo club expresses their anticipation inside, when Miyako sees Carrie in the distance. With this, she approaches her with a usual challenge. After further discussion, Kenzaburo brings up the nostalgic feeling he has. When Ishida brings up his win against him, Kenzaburo wonders if they should have another match. While Tamaki signs up for the competition, she is surprised to see Rin’s name in the listings.

Satori is matched up against Tamaki in the first round, resulting in a quick loss for her. In the meantime, Ishida predicts the match Tamaki will be playing against Rin. While facing off against Carrie, Miyako implies that it will be her win this time. Previously, Miyako and Satori had visited Reimi’s house to review the videos of the earlier match. Miyako is successfully able to land a winning blow against Carrie, allowing her to finally experience the feeling of victory. Reimi makes it to the stadium late, but when she arrives, she sees Miyako walking outside with Carrie. The kendo club discusses their progress when they meet, and go to watch the boys’ side shortly after. Yuji has been set up against Danjuro, and Ishida is impressed by the amount of progress that has been made. Preparing to face off again, Miyako wonders why Carrie uses a dual blade style when she cannot use it in competitions. Carrie finally reveals that she was inspired by a samurai movie as a child, as the two begin another match.

Yuji lands his win against Danjuro, and Tamaki announces that she must leave for her match soon. Her opponent is Rin, causing a lot of anticipation from everyone else. During the match, Tamaki and Rin are very equal in ability. Tamaki is able to lay successful blows to Rin, amazing the rest of the group. Elsewhere outside, Miyako gains an amazing win against Carrie despite Reimi’s distractions. It comes to the deciding moment for Rin and Tamaki, as the crowd around them shouts in excitement. Tamaki realizes that everyone around them loves kendo, and Rin becomes very excited at how strong her opponent has become. As Rin puts up the jodan stance, Ishida wonders what Tamaki would do if she was really to face her mother. However, Tamaki believes she would want to win against any opponent. Tamaki preforms an amazing tsuki against Rin, successfully winning to the cheers of the crowds. Rin hopes for another match in the future, and Tamaki happily agrees. Ishida leaves with his responsibilities as a teacher in mind, and he disappears from the stadium before Kirino can find him. With his apartment now empty, Ishida accompanies his acquaintance in wonder of what he will be doing from now on.

Preview: Rin in a ponytail.

Impression:

YOU SAID IT MIYAKO! Holy crap. From knocking double blades out of enemy hands to Atomic Fire Blades, this episode was the most exciting I’ve seen by far. I had a smile on my face throughout the entire episode, and I was jumping in joy during the excellent matches. Those lame shounen fighting anime really need to take a hint from this show, because two minute matches are plenty to be excited about. I also love how things are not blown out of dramatic proportion, since things are kept very down to earth in a real kendo sports fashion. Reimi’s yuri fantasies almost came true in this episode, and I laughed really hard when I saw her Miyako adorned room. I guess all of her actions didn’t end up as a random side jokes in the end after all! Some other awesome moments included Miyako’s mention of American jokes and Tamaki’s cute mochi mochi face. The teammate versus teammate set ups were a ride too. The next episode looks like a life goes on ending, and I now I really don’t want it to all be over.

Summary:

Panicked, Kirino finds Tamaki to question her resignation. Talking to her on the school rooftop, Kirino sees that Tamaki has put a lot of blame on herself for the previous loss. Kirino wonders if she is really fine with quitting, and Tamaki confirms that she is as she leaves. Kirino breaks the news to her other team members, but Ishida and Miyako are not there. As the group does their best to get to practice as usual, Satori wonders if Danjuro has talked to Miyako at all. However, Danjuro is depressed at the fact that he could not help his girlfriend. When Kirino alerts Ishida of the situation, she finds that he only accepts the facts. Before Ishida can leave, Kirino emotionally wonders why he is running away. After practice is over, Kirino assures Sayako that things will be alright despite their situation. At home, Ishida believes that his kendo has ended. Kirino is exhausted when she returns home, unable to even answer her ringing phone. In her own house, Tamaki wonders about her situation as she passively watches her favorite anime.

The next day, Miyako and Ishida are still absent from the dojo. Yuji wonders if there has been anything strange with Kirino lately, but Sayako does her best to deny this fact. On the school rooftop, Ishida looks out into the blue sky. While Tamaki rides home, she can only remember the memories she shared with everyone in the kendo club. She is suddenly stopped by a flat tire, so she is forced to walk the rest of the way home. Yuji catches up to Tamaki, wondering about her quitting kendo. He eventually brings up her previous question about the feeling of losing. Yuji suggests that Tamaki is probably feeling it now; the feeling of pain and frustration. Tamaki is brought to tears at this realization, but Yuji explains to her that this is not a stopping point. He assures her that she could become better and win, and with this, come to love kendo. After hearing this, Tamaki borrows Yuji’s bike to rush back to the direction she came from.

Tamaki actually visits Kenzaburo, asking him for help in dealing with the jodan stance. Kenzaburo sees that Tamaki has finally realized what it is like to lose, but he suggests that her team already has a jodan user. With this, Tamaki approaches Ishida with her knowledge that he use used the jodan to defeat Kenzaburo in the past. Ishida does not believe he can teach Tamaki anything, and instead suggests that there would be opponents that just cannot be beat. He suggests that Tamaki should just enjoy herself in club, but Tamaki cannot accept this. This makes Ishida remember his own hard days of kendo, and the very moment he defeated Kenzaburo. Ishida finally agrees to help Tamaki, inviting her inside the dojo. He sees that she is exhausted from riding all the way to him, however, so he suggests that they continue later.

Satori meanwhile catches up to Miyako in town, wondering about her troubles. Satori attempts to stop Miyako by clasping on to her arm, but this only annoys her. Becoming frustrated herself, Satori lectures Miyako about her actions. In the end, she suggests that she should win first if she decides to quit. With this, Miyako drags Satori in the opposite direction so that they can get back to practice. Sayako visits Kirino at her home, becoming shocked at the sight of a recognition letter. Pushing her onto her bed, Sayako makes Kirino realize how ridiculous her actions are. After this, Kirino realizes her place.

Yuji and Danjuro arrive at the dojo much earlier than everyone else the next day, and are forced to face Toyama and Iwasa one last time. While Danjuro takes it upon himself to face Toyama, Iwasa explains to Yuji that he and his partner do not really hate kendo. Danjuro deals an ending blow to Toyama, surprising everyone. With this, Toyama and Iwasa actually leave peacefully by presenting their resignation letters. Before they can exit, Yuji presents them with their respective dolls from Kirino and Danjuro gives them a proper thanks. Danjuro wonders if he has gotten closer to realizing Miyako’s feelings afterwards, when Miyako arrives just in time with Satori. Yuji presents the resignation letters to Kirino as well, only leaving Tamaki and Ishida to fill the gaps. Ishida and Tamaki soon enter the building, returning everything to normal. Kirino presents Tamaki’s doll as she welcomes her back, and the team’s smiles are returned.

Preview: Miyako and Danjuro are lovulovu

Impression:

IM NOT RUNNING! Hahaha……….okay, I guess nobody really gets that joke. But wow, this was probably the best episode yet. There were so many exciting parts, and I’m really not sure where to start. I think Yuji might have made his first score with Tamaki, giving her the insight she needed to get out of her slump. It’s really funny that Sakaguchi Daisuke is playing the same insightful type role in Clannad this season. It’s certainly no Jacuzzi Splot! I was totally psyched when it was revealed that Ishida used the jodan stance to defeat Kenzaburo. Man, I can’t help but think that the jodan is really badass now.

Satori’s yelling at Miyako was nothing but epic, and the drastic shots during that scene were perfectly fitting. I wonder if this is a bad thing, but I could only thing of one person when Sayako pushed Kirino on to the bed. The yuri vibes were real! To top everything off, Danjuro’s defeating of Toyama was wonderful. Bamboo Blade is definitely the perfect series to show that even the bullies have hearts inside. I’m still loving how powerful they’ve managed to make the dolls as symbols. After this episode, I definitely got my smile back for Bamboo Blade. Next week looks like a chance for payback, and I’m expecting an excellent end for this series.

Summary:

As Tamaki pays her respects to her mother, she reports that she has lost. When Satori reaches the dojo, she finds that Kirino is the only one there. The two discuss the shocking results of the last tournament, deciding that one in most poor condition is Ishida. Their instructor comes in depressed as expected, but Kirino assures him that there will be other chances. The rest of the team arrives late because of various circumstances, reporting that Tamaki is absent because of duties and that Miyako has work. When Tamaki sees two boys pretending to do kendo outside, she angrily turns around to leave. Miyako meanwhile looks into the shop, but does not go in. Tamaki arrives at the dojo, preparing herself for practice. Ishida gets a call from the intercom in the meantime, leaving Yuji to be Tamaki’s opponent. While Miyako waits outside, she thinks she sees Carrie walk by. This is only her imagination, which again brings her to despair.

Ishida learns from the principal that Toyama and Iwasa have gotten into trouble, and that the kendo club is being held responsible. Ishida believes this is strange, but he is unable to disagree that they are still enlisted in the kendo club. While practicing with her, Yuji believes there is something strange with Tamaki. Danjuro is able to lay a strike on Satori, amazing her. He credits this to accompanying Miyako in her practice, and hopes to help her later. Yuji suddenly puts up the jodan posture against Tamaki, making her lower her sword and request that Yuji stop. While walking back to the dojo, Ishida cannot help but be troubled with his predicament. When practice ends, Ishida requests to talk to Kirino and Satori alone as everyone else leaves. Separating with Danjuro and Satori, Yuji sees that Tamaki has attached the doll Kirino made for her on the front of her bike.

Kirino and Satori are shocked by the news that Ishida gives them, and baffled at the punishment that will be given to them. Ishida states that there is one way to prevent this, but he leaves the decision up to Kirino. After Ishida leaves, Satori and Kirino continue to be troubled. When Danjuro visits the shop, he sees that Miyako is not there. Before separating from her, Yuji brings up Tamaki’s strange behavior as of late. As he has always been watching her, Yuji states that she has become more like she was before she joined the kendo club. Tamaki only replies that this is logical, leaving to attend duties at her home. Ishida is unable to start his car in the school parking lot, angering and despairing at his situation. Danjuro finally finally finds Miyako, so he expresses his disappointment in her lying to get out of practice. Realizing that she is acting this way because of her loss to Carrie, Danjuro suggests that she should just improve her skills in club. Miyako states that Danjuro is unable to understand, and that there are things that are impossible no matter how hard one practices. With this, Miyako runs in tears from Danjuro.

As the two girls are still in the dojo late at night, Satori expresses that nothing good had come from Toyama and Iwasa being in the club. Kirino agrees that things changed for the good when the others joined, and that no one would complain if they were gone. However, she is still troubled about creating a lie to help themselves. At her home’s dojo, Tamaki easily and harshly defeats many of her older male opponents. Tamaki’s father stops her, wondering what is wrong afterwards. Recalling that Yuji had wondered the same thing, Tamaki asks what is different about her. Believing that she is pushing herself, Tamaki’s father suggests that Tamaki stop kendo for awhile. Laying in her room that night, Tamaki states to herself that she doesn’t know what to do anymore. On her shelf, the picture of herself and Rin is now laying on its face. When Kirino returns to the dojo the next day, she is shocked to see a resignation letter. She panics when she sees that it is from Tamaki, and looks down to see that she has left her doll with her bogu.

Preview: Super Yuji saves the day?

Impression:

Noooooooo~! Man, what the heck. This episode was super emo just like I predicted. <strike>It’s a good thing those swords are wooden.</strike> I was definitely sad to see Miya Miya run away in tears, but it was hilarious to see Danjuro’s outstretched hand when he reached for her. Is this the first road block in their relationship!? The new conflict that was brought up in this episode obviously came from Toyama and Iwasa’s actions from the previous episode. It’s interesting how we were constantly reminded that they were technically still part of the kendo club in a joking way, and how things were then turned around in such a dramatic way. Tamaki looks like a fallen hero, going to the dark side in her confusion. I can’t believe how impacting they managed to make that cute little doll. I was kind of irritated to see her picture with Rin put on its face, and I really hope we will get to see an ending with their return to being BFF. Until then, it looks like Kirino and Yuji will have to do their best to hold the kendo club together. Lastly, when Yuji said “I was always watching you”, I almost expected to see Tamaki’s eyes widen up and for the two to start making out. Then I realized that the only romance in this show comes from Miya Miya and Dan-kun =(.

Summary:

Still having memories of Rin in her mind, Tamaki practices early in the house dojo. Tamaki’s father greets her, finding that she has finally healed all the way and is doing well. With this, the two practice together. At the kendo club’s dojo later, everyone practices vigorously. Yoshikawa-sensei eventually enters to learn about the upcoming tournament from Ishida, as Ishida again thinks about his chance to regain his position. The group is amazed when Miyako is able to lay a swift blow to Satori, but they continue on quickly after. Tamaki learns from Sakaguchi that her father has expressed his gladness in her entering of the kendo club, while Yuuji notices something a bit further away. While walking home with her, Yuuji expresses his slight worries about the upcoming tournament. Tamaki assures him that he will be fine, however, as he is strong. At her home that night, Kirino works hard on dolls for the whole team.

In the morning, Yuuji and Danjuro see the delinquents Toyama and Iwasa again. Yuuji tells them about the upcoming tournament, but they remind him that they have quit. Danjuro wonders why Yuuji would do something like that, but Yuuji wonders himself. Once everyone reaches the dojo, Ishida does his best to prep the team. Kirino takes over, however, presenting the mascot characters she made to everyone. With this, everyone is ready for the competitions. Once the group reaches the tournament site, they run into Kenzaburo’s team which is doing as well as ever. The two teachers wish each other luck, but Kenzaburo is unable to avoid Tamaki’s glance when he looks her way. During the opening commencements, Tamki wonders if Rin is there with them. She certainly is, cheering along with everyone else further away from her.

As fate would have it, Miyako runs into Carrie as well. The two send words of challenge to each other, but the rest of the team wonders what Carrie plans on doing about her style. Satori does well to defeat her opponent as the fights start, while Reimi meanwhile appears to capture Miyako on film during her turn. Miyako does her best with encouragement from Satori and the others, but she still has difficulty with Carrie. Miyako is unfortunately unable to beat Carrie for a second time, but Danjuro supports her as usual. Ishida still has his hopes on Tamaki and the rest of his team afterwards, but Kenzaburo reminds him that not everything will always go as planned. Tamaki meets Rin during the break, finding that she will be up against her next as they are both leaders. Rin reminds Tamaki of the conversation they had earlier, and expresses that she will teach Tamaki the reason why Braver would not be able to beat Schneider.

Meanwhile in the arcades, Toyama and Iwasa get into a conflict with other trouble makers. The kendo team wishes Kirino luck as she plays her match, while Ishida continues to lay his hopes on Tamaki next. Yuuji worries about this, while Kirino successfully wins her match in the meantime. When Tamaki is set up for her next match, Rin puts up a jodan stance. Like before, Tamaki freezes because of memories of her mother. Kirino and the others makes her snap out of this, but Tamaki still struggles against Rin. Worrying only about winning, Tamaki uses the same move she used previously against her worst opponents. This results in a loss, however, as Tamaki walks back in shame.

Preview: There’s some pink stuff coming out of your face there, Reimi.

Impression:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! We all saw it coming, but it’s devastating either way. It’s like that episode of Initial D or Dragonball Z where the main character loses so that the writers don’t get blamed for making things predictable and stuff. There were a lot of conflicts in this episode, and it really sets up for some interesting developments till the end. I can’t believe Miyako lost AGAIN. That’s so unfair. I also wonder what is being set up with Toyama and Iwase, because I refuse to believe the only reason they were in this episode was to create a parallel with the continues in the game they were playing. With four episodes left, it looks like there will be one more major arc until the series is over. It’s sure to be a ride. Besides the disappointments in losses and drama, there were still a lot of funny parts in this episode. I loved the dolls Kirino made, and it’s always nice to see Reimi again. The next episode looks pretty emo, but I hope it doesn’t all go downhill for Tamaki and the others.

Summary:

When Yuuji meets back up with the rest of the team in the dojo, Kirino and Sayako wonder how his date with Tamaki went. However, they find that nothing has come out of it as expected. Tamaki watches as the actors practice for the movie in another dojo with Rin. She is impressed with the new developments, and further sees that Rin’s attitude changes when Schneider is brought up. When Tamaki lays out a towel for Rin while she is in the shower, she notices that she has a Schneider shirt to go with her pajamas. Tamaki’s father has a conversation with his acquaintance about Rin, hoping that she and Tamaki could get along. When Rin notices the dvds Tamaki has in her room, she wonders why she likes Braver. Tamaki gives her many reasons, but Rin changes the subject before Tamaki can ask her anything in return.

The girls prepare to go to sleep, but Rin becomes excited when she notices the clock that Tamaki attempts to set. This happens to be a Blade Braver item, so the two girls begin having a long discussion about their interests throughout the night. However, the two begin arguing when they cannot agree on the roles that Schneider and Braver play in the show. With this, the girls are forced to play a Braver dvd to continue their argument. The girls end up watching Braver throughout the night, finding that it is already morning by the time they are done. On the car ride to the site, Tamaki and Rin have fallen asleep next to each other, certainly getting along.

Tamaki is very nervous at the site of filming, then learning that Rin will be playing a small part as well. When the actor for Schneigirl comes down with an illness, Rin readily offers to play the role as a replacement. Since this changes Rin’s original role, Tamaki is also given the chance to play a role. Tamaki is very nervous while playing her part, but Rin does very well. Tamaki freezes when she was suppose to run with the other actors, and fights back at Schneigirl when she sees her. This confuses the directors, but Rin and Tamaki are totally into it. When they charge into each other, the other actors are forced to stop them. The team then takes a break, but the director is actually impressed with the two girls. Tamaki and Rin are a bit disappointed with themselves, but they also feel like they couldn’t stop themselves. Rin expresses that Tamaki is strong, but she is stronger because of being Schneider. Tamaki states that Braver has never lost, and Rin states that this is actually the reason why Braver cannot beat Schneider who has. The girls are called back for the second shooting, so Tamaki and Rin hold hands on the way back.

Meanwhile, Kirino and Sayako discuss the kendo club’s progress at home. Kirino believes that Tamaki is largely to credit for the club’s turn around, but Sayako believes that Kirino has done a lot as well. This creates a slightly awkward atmosphere for the two. Satori and Danjuro help Miyako run, when Carrie appears to meet them. She again states that she will not loose to Miyako, when Satori defends Miyako by describing how hard she has been practicing. Carrie leaves after challenging Miyako again, and Miyako again states that she will win. Ishida meets Yuuji at the dojo, finding that he is practicing the hardest out of everyone. When Ishida wonders what happened in his absence, Yuuji states that Tamaki has made a new friend and rival. Rin confirms that Tamaki is in the kendo club on the ride back home, telling her that they will meet at the competitions. Rin states that they will finish what they started there, so Tamaki readily agrees.

Preview: Aw, Tamaki is so proud of her role.

Impression:

WOO!!! Friendship power!!! No, I didn’t drop this show with six episodes left. Come on. I’ve just been busy with other things, and when I blog eight shows out of the season, a series or two is going to get delayed once in awhile. It doesn’t really matter though, because this is the type of show that can be appreciated at any time. Anyways, this episode was great. The meeting of friends through close family ties was so true to life, and I really loved Rin and Tamaki’s interaction. This is also a case of best friend becomes greatest rival, which should make for some nice developments in the not so distant future. The first fight between Rin and Tamaki was actually pretty awesome, and the animation was surprisingly good for it.

I laughed when Carrie showed up again, but it definitely wasn’t a huge surprise. It’s awesome that Satori was the one to support Miya Miya along with Dan-kun. Miyako obviously likes Satori secretly, since she’s always asking her for help. She even let her drive the Miya Miya mobile! Kirino and Sayako also had some more <strike>yuri</strike> close friendship vibes in this episode. It’s always nice to remember that they were the first members of the kendo club, and it’s fun to watch them reminisce about how much the club has advanced. I also liked how they totally expected Yuuji to have some developments with Tamaki. Those two are obviously being set up to grow old together. That is, unless Satori gets to Yuuji first! It looks like we’re already heading to another tournament in the next episode, so I’ll have to get on that <strike>next week</strike> tomorrow.

Summary:

A young girl named Rin watches Blade Braver on TV, during an episode where Braver and his allies are saved by their enemy Schneider. At the end of this, Rin is put to tears. At practice, the kendo girls are given a day off by Ishida because of his own circumstances. Many of the girls quickly decide on plans for the next day, while Yuuji meanwhile asks Tamaki if she is free the next day. He has tickets to a show where Blade Braver would appear, instantly interesting Tamaki. Finding that Yuuji is the only other free person, Tamaki picks him to go with her. This makes Sayako and Kirino suggest that this is a date. When she reaches home, Tamaki is reminded that her father’s friend will be coming to the house the next day. Tamaki is relieved that he will not be arriving until the night, so she reaffirms that she will help. That night, Tamaki has trouble sleeping due to her excitement towards the next day.

Yuuji wonders about getting around the theme park the next day, but Tamaki has already investigated everything. The two start watching a show featuring the Cosmo 13, while Yuuji wonders if it is okay to be watching with a bunch of kids much younger than them. He finds that Tamaki did not hear his question, however, as she was completely absorbed by the show. When Yuuji asks if Tamaki likes the Cosmo 13 as well, she gives him a detailed review of the series. Yuuji notices that this is the first time he has heard Tamaki say so much. Suddenly, the Death Armor from Blade Braver appears to attack the Cosmo 13 with his Death Friends. Blade Braver appears to assist his comrade, however, making Tamaki ecstatic. All of the crowd cheers, except for Rin. When the announcer suggests that she cheer as well, Rin states that she will only cheer for Schneider. Tamaki notices this, but the event continues with interviews for Blade Braver and Cosmo One. The crowd becomes extremely excited when news of a movie is announced, but Tamaki still sees that Rin will not change her expression. When Braver announces that Schneider will be appearing in the movie, however, Rin is instantly interested.

The rest of the kendo girls find that they have all shown up for practice in the dojo anyways. A conversation is brought up about Yuuji and Tamaki’s date, but they all decide that there probably isn’t much going on between the two. A quiz starts back at the sentai show. Yuuji finds that Tamaki is actually taking place in this, but Rin is there as well. Both Tamaki and Rin have their eyes on the prize of Blade Braver dolls, but Rin is actually only interested in Schneider. Tamaki and Rin take the lead in the show, leaving the younger kids in the dust. The announcer suggests a singing contest to turn the tables, which worries Tamaki. Rin has no problem with this, amazing everyone by singing the Schneider theme song. Tamaki is unable to sing despite Yuuji’s cheers, making the contest end in her loss.

Even though the autograph signing from Braver has started afterwards, Tamaki is too saddened from losing. Rin gives her the big prize of dolls, however, because all she wanted was Schneider. After Rin takes her leave, Tamaki finally suggest that they will attend the signing and other events. On the train ride home, Tamaki thanks Yuuji for the wonderful time she had that day. When Tamaki reaches home, she is shocked to find Blade Braver standing in front of her. Of course, this is actually an acquaintance of Tamaki’s father. Tamaki is happy to help their visitors, and is excited when they suggest that she can help with some of the Braver events. It turns out that she will be working with the girl she met earlier, Rin. However, Rin does not even remember meeting Tamaki.

Preview: Tamaki and Rin…..Braver and Schneider??

Impression:

This episode was awesome!!! I was already expecting a cool Blade Braver special, but there were so many other good parts to this episode. I really liked how Yuuji and Tamaki were set up for a “date”, since their relationship has kind of been building up to this point. Of course, they kind of put it off as a joke as expected. The only love love that will go on in this show is between Miya Miya and Dan-kun! It was so funny seeing Yuuji feel awkward for being around so many kids, while Tamaki was completely absorbed by the show. Tamaki is the typical otaku, while Yuuji is the sensible normal guy. Tamaki’s full review of the Cosmo 13 show was a riot, but it sadly reminded me a bit of myself. I don’t know what to think about the Cosmo 13. It just seems like they purposely made them lamer than Blade Braver.

The introduction of Rin made for some great situations. I already knew what was coming when the episode started off with her. With Braver fan Tamaki and Schneider fan Rin, we might get a enemies to friends situation just like we saw earlier in this episode. The contest in this episode was really funny, but I’m pretty disappointed that they didn’t actually have any vocals when Rin sang the Schneider theme. What a twist for Tamaki to have her hero so close to her. I almost thought Braver was going to be Ishida during the lunch shots in this episode. The next episode looks like it’s going to be a continuation of fun, with some actual background on Rin.

Summary:

Some girls invite Miyako to go to a shop with them, but she denies because of her need to go to kendo practice. They wonder why, but their answer is brought to them when they see Danjuro calling Miyako over to him. One of the girls wonders how a boy like Danjuro could be Miyako’s boyfriend, so the other gives her a ridiculous explanation. Ishida enthusiastically prepares his girls for practice in the dojo, though he is actually quite disappointed in himself. When Tamaki approaches him, Ishida offers to take her to the clinic for her final check up. Kirino is put in charge while they are away, so she decides with the remaining group that they will test themselves in a ranking of strength. Ishida drops Tamaki off at the hospital, but she insists that she will be fine without him taking her back afterwards.

The rest of the group at the dojo finds their rankings, but they are quite like they expected them to be. Danjuro cheers up a despairing Miyako as usual, but Yuuji cannot help but notice something troubling while watching the two. Tamaki runs into Kenzaburo after her check up is done, and he offers to give her a ride home. While stuck in traffic, Kenzaburo takes the chance to ask if her previous match was the first time she has lost. Tamaki denies that it was a loss, however, as she would have won if she were able to continue. Kenzaburo suggests that it would be better if Tamaki lost once, as there are things that can only be seen once this happens. Tamaki is unable to comprehend this, only stating that she does not want to lose.

Danjuro and Miyako meanwhile visit the kendo shop to find a new sword. Miyako finds one that she likes, but a large foreign woman also takes interest. The two soon get into an argument, but Danjuro breaks them up. The foreigner takes an instant liking to Danjuro, as he reminds her of the things she liked in America. Miyako has her own suggestions, however, before the shop owner interrupts the argument. The foreign woman challenges Miyako to a match the next day, before walking out of the store to Miyako’s irritation. Danjuro tells Miyako that fighting isn’t good on the way home with her, but she assures him that it will be okay.

Talking on the phone with him at night, Tamaki wonders to Yuuji what it felt like when he first lost a match. She is unable to get an answer, however, as her father enters the room to interrupt her. Meanwhile, Miyako practices for her match the next day. The foreign woman from earlier arrives at the school the next day, so Miyako quickly shows up to take her challenge. The girls are excited about how Miyako’s position would change if she won, but Tamaki expresses that the girl is strong. Miyako tries her best to beat her opponent, but she is still unable to in the end. Danjuro comforts a despairing Miyako after the match, and he denies the American girl’s advances on him. He tells her that his only love is Miyako, which finally makes her give up. She and Miyako say their farewells to each other afterwards, promising to each other that they would have another match one day. The girl also finally introduces herself as Carrie.

Preview: Holy crap, a Blade Braver episode!!!

Impression:

My love is only one…MIYA MIYA FOREVER! Man, that was the best line in Bamboo Blade I have ever heard. Love power!!! Well, I guess this was the first episode in the anime original series. I’m actually quite satisfied. I didn’t see the foreigner coming at all (Okay, that’s a lie…Kurogane likes to write spoilerific titles), and she provided for a lot of humor. It’s easy to tell that they aren’t able to bring any major story forward though, as the dialogs just seem to be spinning around in circles around what we already know. Kenzaburo’s suggestion that Tamaki should lose once was a nice touch, and I laughed at Tamaki’s father worrying about Yuuji taking her away.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Miyako struggling for her place in the kendo club. I doubt we’ll be seeing a conclusion to this in the anime though, which is a bit disappointing. The introduction of Carrie and her challenge almost made me think that she would finally win a match, but it still didn’t happen. Speaking of that character, what was up with the guitar rifts that started playing while she was around? Haha!! You’ve gotta love that Engrish too. Another thing I enjoy about this show, which I don’t think I’ve mentioned yet, is how the matches only last one to three minutes long. They don’t drag them out like they do in shounen anime, Ah, but who cares about that? The next episode looks really awesome, since it seems like we’ll get an extended look at Tamaki’s favorite anime!

Summary:

In the aftermath of her match, Tamaki is very displeased in the fact that she has been disqualified. The reason is her injury, even though Konishi is in a lot more trouble. Tamaki attempts to convince Ishida that she would have still been able to go on, but he insists that she is not herself. Tamaki is finally calmed by Kirino’s words, realizing that she is not thinking clearly as she loses her strength. As the rest of the club rushes to Tamaki’s aid, Ishida realizes that Kirino is the heart that holds their team together. Since the scores between the two teams are the same, another match takes place to decide the winner. Kirino is sent out as an obvious choice, as she is put up against Aoki from the other team. As the team notices Kirino’s amazing concentration, they realize that her little brother Ta-kun has come to cheer her on. As Ta-kun reveals the positive results of their mother’s examination, Ishida notices a change in Kirino’s aura. Kirino loses her match because of this, but the team remains as cheerful as ever in the afternoon.

Tamaki apologizes to everyone, but she is finally able to smile after everyone’s reactions. Danjuro approaches Ishida with his realization that the team has been acting a bit strange during this competition, making Ishida think about his usual role and how their team still has a way to go. Konishi remains troubled in the meantime, as her horrifying past flashes by her while she is in a bathroom stall. Konishi’s juniors arrive to alert her of their team’s leaving, but she tells them not to follow her anymore as she walks past them. Noticing Ishida’s team on the way out, she wonders how they can be so cheerful despite losing.

Later, Tamaki is interrupted by her father while she is watching TV. He asks Tamaki about her well being, just before getting to the point about her actions in the kendo match. Thought he is not really angry at her, Tamaki’s father warns his daughter not to use the tsuki move because of its danger. Before leaving, he also expresses his gladness that Tamaki has changed a bit. Kirino helps cook dinner for her family at home, and realizes that their team is just getting started when she retires to her room. Sayako gets a message from Kirino about their need for a theme song, so Sayako excitedly starts doing her best to produce one.

Sayako arrives at school the next day, sleep driven from working on her song all night. She believes that she should reveal it when Kirino mentions their theme song, but she despairs when she finds that Kirino has already found one. Sayako’s composition flies out of her hands in her shock, forcing her to chase after them. The rest of the team reports that Sayako has fallen into a fountain later, as Ishida begins practice. He notices that Tamaki has come despite her injury, however, so he allows her to teach for the day. Remembering the days he spent in his school, Ishida decides that he would like some things on the dojo’s walls. Danjuro suggests that Yuji can do calligraphy, but one of Tamaki’s certificates is brought up as well. When Tamaki’s father sees that Tamaki will be brining her certificate to school the next day, he tries to hide the intentions he had for it. Yuji and Danjuro bring works to the dojo the next day, but Ishida finds that Tamaki was unable to bring her certificate. At home, Tamaki’s father is surprised and touched to find the certificate in the frame he was holding the previous night.

Preview: We’re going to anime original!

Impression:

This was one of the best episodes yet! I dunno how many people would agree with me, but I found myself smiling and laughing at this episode more than I have in awhile. Saying that this anime has no slice of life elements would be crazy, and it seems like I’m not the only one who has come to that realization. I remember being tricked by the show’s appearance before its season started awhile back, but I had to take a second look after some feedback from you lovely readers who are better informed than myself. I was really hooked to a lot of the themes in this episode, from Konishi’s revealed past to the wonderful gift Tamaki gave to her father. They finally showed us more of Kirino’s family as well, which really made me appreciate how well the characters are developed. Growing up in different atmospheres really creates a person’s personality, and the representations of Kirino and Tamaki’s families mirror that.

Of course, after tying up the events from the last episode, this episode was as hilarious as ever. I liked Danjuro’s hidden talents and Miyako’s usual reaction quite a bit, and I laughed pretty hard at Tamaki’s anime watching and Blaver poster. She’s definitely not the only one who’s been interrupted in the middle of a show like that! Now that we’re going into anime original material, I can’t help but wonder what kind of direction will be taken. The kendo matches were becoming as episodic as the swimming competitions in Umisho, but I think it’s really just the characters that make the show for us. As long as they can keep the pace they’ve had up to this point, I’ll be satisfied. Besides, everyone knows that it’s a total turn off when an anime goes past 26 episodes.

Summary:

Soon after trapping Tamaki inside of the locker room, Konishi’s fangirls realize that strange rumors about Konishi have been popping up because of them. They aren’t extremely bothered about this, however, as they leave Tamaki inside. Ishida and the others worry about what is taking Tamaki so long as her match approaches, while Tamaki attempts to escape without avail. To Tamaki’s surprise, it is actually Konishi who appears to save her. Realizing what her juniors have done, Konishi quickly apologizes. Tamaki suddenly brings up that they will be late for their match, so the two quickly hurry to the proper location. Tamaki attempts to keep up with Konishi, but she suddenly trips over tennis balls that have rolled out in front of her. Now with an injured ankle, Tamaki realizes that Konishi’s offers to help are not genuine. Yuji and Danjuro finally find Tamaki after setting out to find her, but she refuses to tell them or any of her peers about what has really happened. Though most of the team is glad that Tamaki has returned on time, Yuji notices that there is something strange.

As the matches begin, Konishi continues to taunt Tamaki. As Satori steps out as the first to fight, she can only worry about the pain in her stomach from eating too much earlier. While everyone else is only able to concentrate on the face off between Satori and her opponent, Tamaki faces her dilemma about fighting her match despite her injured ankle. Konishi meanwhile realizes what a horrible job her juniors had done at sabotaging Tamaki, priding herself on her more effective actions. While her opponent suspects that she will have an easy win, Satori attempts to change her troubling situation. When her opponent least expects it, Satori quickly defeats her while she has the chance. While Satori attempts to recover after her match, Reimi arrives outside. Miyako’s turn is next, and she is able to move quite well because of Danjuro’s earlier encouragement. The match is close, but Miyako suddenly loses her concentration when she sees Reimi in the crowds. Even though she tries to regain her concentration, Miyako quickly loses the match because of Reimi’s distraction.

As Satori steps up for her match, Tamaki continues to worry about her pain and Konishi’s tormenting. Remembering her father’s statement about the need for a heart for kendo, Tamaki realizes that Konishi is not fit for the position. Now determined, she declares that she will defeat her. Sayako is able to defeat her opponent skillfully, so Kirino approaches next with the entire team’s hope. A more powerful than usual Kirino easily defeats her opponent, granting Ishida’s wishes. The opposing couch believes that she can still win, however. Tamaki ignores Yuji’s question of concern as she enters the stage for her match. Although Konishi is initially quite confident, Tamaki quickly overwhelms her with her aura. Unable to find any openings, Konishi is soon defeated by Tamaki with a single attack. Although the entire crowd is amazed by this performance, Tamaki walks off to see a concerned Ishida and Yuji.

OWNED. Man, what an awesome ending. This is the type of episode that I feel lame for having to watch late, since it was so anticipated (Impz’s spamming me in four different places didn’t help). But meh, studies. You know how that goes. It looks like I was quite wrong in my guess from last week, because Konishi really is just a jerk. From her close eyed appearance to gold eyes when she actually opened them up, she was so typically evil. Seeing Tamaki just completely destroy her was amazing, and I was definitely shouting “justice” in my head when Konishi went down. It looks like not everyone thinks so though, since Tamaki will be being taught a lesson in a true to life situation next time. The rest of the fights in the episode were pretty fun, but there really wasn’t much new offered. I did like Satori’s hallucinations though, and I’ll never get tired of the over the top Reimi appearances. LIKE ZYL, I also hope that Miya Miya will one day overcome Reimi’s stalking. I’m sure it will only take more love power from Dan-kun to solve that problem! I also wonder why Konishi is so concerned about that bathroom stall…maybe we’ll find out next time?
