Summary:

Dante fires at the demon until his body is in pieces, but he comes back in a bigger form to grab Dante by the leg. Nina despairs that the world will come to its end because of Abigail’s power, as Dante is left unconscious while pinned to a cross. Lady shows up to see that things have started, as the demon starts to transform. Lady tells Morrison and the others of the man named Allen Lowell, who discovered the great power of Abigail. Because this power was only good for demons, he sealed it away. However, with the help of Nina’s pendant, it has now come to life. Trish appears in time to save a child from death, but everyone then looks up to see the large demon Abigail start to destroy the city. The bystanders start to flee, but Patty insists on going to Dante. Nina and Morrison follow her, and Trish stops Lady before she can stop them. Trish insists that a miracle may happen, so Lady decides to believe in miracles this one time. The two girls get ready to fight, as demons start to overflow the cities.

A fire blocks Patty’s path, so Morrison goes back to do something about it. Patty takes the chance to apologize to her mother, and Nina expresses her regret for causing Patty to suffer such lonely times. Morrison arrives after setting off the water sprinklers, just in time to witness Nina embracing her daughter. Trish and Lady continue to fight the demons that appear, as Patty and the others walk into the room where the circle was placed. Nina and Morrison wonder what they should do, as a demon approaches Patty from behind. Demons appear to seize all of them, but Patty’s pendant wards them off after she calls Dante’s name. A portal appears, and Patty jumps in before Morrison and Nina can stop her. Nina expresses that the power of Allen’s tears may still have just enough power to protect Patty.

Outside, Trish and Lady attempt to stop Abigail, but they find that only one person will be able to do so. Patty opens her eyes to see a desolate area, and she wanders until she finds Dante. Seeing him helplessly pinned to the cross, she starts to run towards him. Her pendant wards off the demons that approach her, and she jumps to Dante as he lowers into a pit of demons. As she starts trying to pull the sword out of his chest, she expresses the enjoyable times she had with him. She apologizes and begs him to wake up, when the scarred demon appears to pull her away. Patty looks out to see Abigail, and he thanks Patty for granting him the power. Demons surround Patty, Nina, and Morrison, but Dante suddenly appears to fend them off.

As blood pours from Dante’s chest, Patty faints from the shock. With his sword drawn, Dante begins to face off against Abigail. The demon sends spikes throughout Dante’s body, but Dante replies with laughter. Breaking all of the spikes, Dante charges at Abigail with his sword. The demon wonders why he cannot beat Dante, even with all of the power he obtained. Dante replies that he did not have the soul for it. As the disgusting creature charges towards him, Dante lets out the words “Jackpot” before giving him the last deserving blow. After arriving outside, Dante reminds Patty to be happy, as she will be living with her family from now on. Later at the Devil May Cry, Morrison arrives to bring Dante to a job. Trish and Lady have also come along for this, as they speed down the mountain pass. At the Devil May Cry, Patty expresses how Dante cannot do anything without her around. She puts up a “now cleaning” sign, as she starts to work.

Impression:

Was this as epic as we hoped for it to be? Well, it depends how you look at it. Although predictable, I do think the plot was wrapped up very well. Remember when everybody thought that Patty was a random introduction in the first episode? She obviously had a much bigger role in the long run. It could probably be said that she was the savior for Dante, and he certainly returned the favor. Although Patty can finally be happy with her mother, it doesn’t look like she is ready to say goodbye to Dante yet! I’m really wondering what they are going to do about the destroyed city though. That demon attack was pretty huge, but no body seemed to be making a big deal about it after everything was over. How many people died out there?

As far as the fights go, I was really hoping to see a bit more of Dante. By the end of the episode, it just seemed like his spotlight went by way too fast. I think we saw much more of Lady and Trish, and that rocket thing was ridiculous. I’m sure there were others besides me who were expecting a demon transformation, and although it didn’t happen to the extent we were probably hoping for, there was just a hint of it during the final battle. I’m just glad that little demon is finally done for. JACKPOT! Nothing else needs to be said. My final impression of the series is next!

Devil May Cry is a series that I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I had mixed feelings about it in the beginning because, like many others, I was hoping for the same kind of action presented in the games. Some of the episodes came off as pointless, episodic, and very disappointing. However, after realizing what this show really did for the Devil May Cry story, it became very easy to appreciate for different reasons. Although we did get a fair amount of action, this series focused more on Dante’s character development. Each episode fleshed out a part of Dante’s character, making us see him as more than just a heatless demon killer. Many of the episodes showed us his sense of justice, while others displayed what he had to go through every day. The scene with Dante on the train after being thrown out of the town he used to live in is still etched into my mind.

Although character introductions like Patty and Cindy seemed to be completely random, these supporting characters helped to show parts of Dante’s regular lifestyle. This wasn’t something we had seen much in the games, so it also helped to flesh out Dante’s character as well. It’s obvious that Dante had become attached to Patty early in the series, as she is someone that could relate to him with her losses. She was someone that helped Dante all the way to the end, just as he helped her. Whenever Dante saved someone, it wasn’t something as simple as saving their life. Every episode had some pretty meaningful messages, and most of them really left me with a good feeling after watching them. Although this series will not be making my top favorites list, it remains as a quite enjoyable series that I would recommend to any Devil May Cry fan.

Summary:

A man follows a woman out of the bar as she leaves, but she warns him to stay away from her. Before he can react, he is killed by a demon. This demon goes after the woman next, but it is destroyed by a blue light. Patty complains about Dante’s laziness at the Devil May Cry, and he finally gets up to clean his mess. He unthinkingly says that Patty is the kind of girl that acts like she wants her parent’s attention, which makes her reply that it is because her parents are not there. Patty runs out, and Morrison comes in shortly after with a client. The client, Nina, presents a pendant for Dante to protect. Dante eventually agrees as usual, as he has free time. Patty observes the picture of her mother while walking down the street, expressing that she thought Dante would understand her since his parents are gone as well. As Nina passes by her on the opposite side of the street, Patty senses that it is her mother. Dante stops by for his usual strawberry sundae at the restaurant, and Cindy comments that he should make up with Patty soon. Dante remembers the expression Patty had, as Lady stops by to greet him. Dante tells her that he is working to guard the pendant, and prevents her from touching it. Lady grabs the pendant from him anyways, and leaves after quickly examining it.

In the room of a very high building, Nina expresses her worries to a man named Simon. Simon’s attention is quickly brought to something happening below, which happens to be Dante’s encounter with a demon. Dante quickly finds that the demon is after Nina’s pendant. The demon expresses that he could obtain great power if he had it, before Dante finishes it off. On his way out of the alley, Dante passes by Nina who had rushed to the scene. Dante brings up that she did not mention demons were actually after the pendant, as she stands in surprise. Nina introduces Simon to Dante, and asks for the pendant back in order to keep outsiders away from danger. Dante asks for the payment, which Nina confirms will be available the next day. With this, Dante only agrees to return the pendant the next day as well. Patty appears and calls out to her mother, but Nina runs away before she can catch her. While Dante expresses that she must be mistaken, Simon tries to touch the pendant hanging from Dante’s pocket. This leaves an injury on his hand, and he later takes a dagger out to obtain the blood of the demon that was just killed. Patty remains on bad terms with Dante the next day, and disappears from the Devil May Cry with the pendant after hearing of Nina’s location from Morrison. Dante answers a phone call from Trish, before realizing that the pendant is missing from his desk.

Nina lays on the bed while thinking of Patty, before answering the door to Simon. She reminds him that she cannot be with Patty, before observing the wound on his hand. Simon tells her that he had coffee spill on it, but she realizes that he was not one to drink coffee. While Trish inspects a library, she meets Lady who is holding a particular book. Nina finds herself tied up, while Simon expresses that she probably knows what he wants. Nina brings up that the pendant would only benefit demons, and that he would not be able to touch it if he was one. Simon expresses that he is a demon with only the power to take on a human appearance, before revealing that he is actually the short scarred demon in disguise. With many pieces gathered from various demon encounters, he now stands above a large pentagram. Meanwhile, Dante and Morrison arrive to the hotel. Patty enters the room, which brings the last three things the demon needs to complete the ritual. After realizing that Nina is really her mother, Patty brings the pendant to the center of the pentagram under the demon’s threats. A blue light fills the room shortly afterwards, and the demon jumps down into the portal that appears. Patty runs to a despairing Nina, and Dante leaves the rest up to Morrison before jumping into the portal as well. Morrison works to evacuate the hotel, while Dante and the demon face off in a barren area. Outside, Nina falls to the ground while expressing that the end of the world is coming.

ED: We got a very cool ED in preparation for the final showdown. The regular track is taken away, and we are given a dark shot of Dante pinned to a cross and bleeding.

Preview: Stylish!

Impression:

With only one episode left, Devil May Cry finally puts all the pieces together for a somewhat continuous story. I wish all of the episodes could have been like this, because this was awesome! I absolutely loved the last scene with Dante facing up his final opponent, and the special ending just added to the effect. Patty’s real mother is finally revealed, which quickly results in a lot of trouble. Everyone probably saw the little demon’s plan coming, especially after all his encounters with Dante. I suspect that he will become a much bigger threat to Dante in the next episode. Lady and Trish are obviously busy researching something, and they will probably be of help to Dante in the final battle as well. After this huge buildup, I’m hoping for an amazing climax to the end of this series. It certainly looks pretty epic. The last episode’s title is “Stylish!”, another popular phrase from the games.

Summary:

Dante encounters a white demon while walking down the street. He gets corned by this swords, but Lady manages to blast the demon away. Later while Dante has his usual strawberry sundae, he and Patty notice that someone is giving the manager trouble. Cindy explains that he does not think the master’s strawberry sundae is very good. The manager starts to throw him out, when Dante agrees that the strawberry sundae is not its usual. This causes both of the customers to be thrown out, and the store closes for the day. Later, Trish confronts a demon about the white one from earlier. He admits to her that he is after Sparda’s son, Dante, before she kills him off. Dante also hears this, before he leaves Trish’s presence. That night, the man Dante met in the restaurant, Moden, reflects upon Sparda’s legend. The next day, Patty meets Moden and tells him about Dante. Upon being asking about what he is doing, Moden replies that he is observing people. Patty mentions that he must have a lot of free time, and he expresses his wish that the days could always be so peaceful.

Before running off, Patty tells Moden that she will make a strawberry sundae for him the next time he is at the Devil May Cry. Not to far away, the scared demon talks with the white demon, Valri, about his younger brother. Moden had thrown away his swords, even though Valri wishes to confront Sparda’s son. Upon being hinted of his brother’s actions, Moden heads to the Devil May Cry. He confronts his brother when he reaches the Devil May Cry, which only results in Valri leaving to find Dante. Dante enters the Devil May Cry later, guessing what is happening, but also suggests that Moden may want his life as well. The conflict doesn’t go any further, and Dante goes to seek out Valri. The two fight against each other, and Dante comes out victorious even when his opponent turns into a demon. Becoming angered by this, Moden also transforms and charges towards Dante. Patty mentions that she will be making a strawberry sundae for Moden to Dante at the Devil May Cry later. Dante tells her that he probably will not come, because of a promise he made. Elsewhere, the scarred demon laughs at the actions of the two brothers.

Preview: Showtime!

Impression:

I may have the brothers’ names wrong, but I’ll probably change them when I find the official ones. Despite being kind of wrong about my guess from last episode, I really liked this one. The only thing that bothered me was that some of the dialog driven scenes just looked like moving storyboards. It reminded me a lot of some of the middle Death Note episodes, where Madhouse’s budget seemed to go down. The fight scene was really cool though, even if it was kind of short. I loved what happened with the two swords after the first brother went down! The voice acting had me laughing for a bit, because I couldn’t help but think of Giroro when the older brother talked. After Keroro Gunsou, that’s always what I’ll remember Nakata Jouji for. The voice actor for the younger brother reminds me of another big male seiyu, but I don’t know which one. When I can recognize a voice but can’t attach it to the actor it really bothers me, so one of you have to tell me which one it is! Another funny thing in this episode was how the store sign was in english. I might be beating a dead horse by saying this yet again, but it really makes it obvious that they will be marketing this to an American audience quick. The next episode looks pretty awesome, with the little guy finally getting some action. It’s also called “Showtime”, a common phrase from the games.

Summary:

Dante receives a request from a woman to save her husband Paul from gambling. Dante refuses at first, comparing the addiction to gambling to a sickness, but is convinced by Morrison when he suggests that it could be a demon’s work. There has been a rumor going around of a gambler called the king, and anyone that loses to him will die. Dante has also received an invitation from the king, including a watch. This places Dante on a cruise ship, gambling with some well known gamblers. The king’s work is displayed early, as one of the players dies after losing. Everyone takes a break shortly afterwards, and Lady finds that Paul’s wife has boarded the ship after hearing a rumor about it. However, she will not show herself to Paul because she believes that he will not stop either way. Everyone continues to play even after numerous deaths, showing that they are not concerned about anything but winning. Paul and Dante become the last two remaining players, but Dante manages to beat him. However, Dante turns to say that it isn’t over yet, as he offers a gamble to Lady. He points his gun at her, but Lady is faster at shooting him. Patty screams in confusion at the sight, as Paul’s wife appears. She reveals that she sent items to all the players, which caused them to act in the manner that they did. The woman transforms into a demon to kill everyone on the ship, but Dante rises soon after firing at her. He reveals that Lady shot through the watch that he received in the invitation. He realized its powers by pure coincidence, when Patty had tried it on in the Devil May Cry. The two begin exchanging attacks, and when Dante realizes that his guns won’t do the work, he finishes the demon off with his sword. It is later revealed to Patty that it was their plan all along for Lady to bring Dante back to his senses, and Dante loses to Patty in cards as usual.

Preview: The Last Promise

Impression:

So this week you guys get a late post and a half assed summary! Sorry, I’ve been busy with Uni preparations and the such. This episode was decent, but it had a lot of flaws. The animation dipped down again with a lot of scenes looking shabby, and there was even a scene where Patty was talking but her mouth wasn’t moving. Watching the episode felt very familiar to a lot of American films I’ve been seeing recently with the setting on a high class cruise ship and lots of gambling. I couldn’t help but be reminded of scenes from Casino Royal or Ocean’s 13. I don’t know if I could say that I was that pumped about seeing people play cards for the majority of the episode. Is it really that exciting? I was also getting a ton of Death Note vibes with people falling to their deaths every two seconds. They even had the items that changed the way people act. With Madhouse doing the animation, I don’t know if that is a coincidence or not. As cheezy as the story is for this episode, I could say that the directors are doing a good job. The show still has a surprisingly enjoyable atmosphere, and it is easy to empathize with the characters. Even though it may not be extremely popular while its airing, I have a feeling that this will be quite successful when it’s brought to the states. The next episode might be a step up story wise, because it looks like we will finally be seeing the big role that sneaky demon has been playing. There was also a mention of Dante’s father, so it looks like we’ll finally get to see some real demons in action!

Summary:

Morrison arrives a the Devil May Cry late with a person named Earnest, who refers to Dante as Tony. He claims to have found evidence of the demon his mother loathed. When Dante asks Morrison about this later, Morrison describes the incident that happened years ago where a town was burned down. The injured people claimed that it was a demon’s work, but no one believed them. Earnest believes that Dante is Tony, who left the town with his mother. He even referred to him as a devil hunter, something people wouldn’t usually know. Earnest picks Dante up when he arrives at the now rebuilt town. Earnest tells Dante that he heard about him from a circus boy by coincidence, so Dante tells him to take him to that circus. When he walks inside, he hears a familiar voice: the one that belongs to the demon hotel manager who has constantly been showing up. He cannot find him despite shooting his guns, and Earnest is surprised to see them when Dante walks outside. Earnest then takes Dante to see their old teacher, and old woman named Margret. She asks about his mother, and Dante replies that she has been dead for a long time. During the conversation, Earnest once again brings up the evidence he has found about the demon that burned their town. After arriving at Earnest’s house, Dante is introduced to his wife Ellise. While talking with her outside, Ellise describes how Earnest was said to have changed. Dante suggests that he could have forgot about the past, but Ellise tells him that Earnest was determined. She also tells Dante how highly he thought of Dante, but there was one thing she didn’t know despite always hearing about him. Ellise mentions a promise that the two had made, which Dante puts off as something that would have been done by kids.

That night, Dante encounters the short demon in his room. He says that he did this for Dante’s sake, as the demon is quite dangerous. Of course, Dante does not believe him. After Dante slashes him away, the demon suggests that Dante was drawn to the demon scent. The next morning, Dante confronts Earnest about what he will do against the demon. He tells him that it is not something that a human could take on, but Earnest still believes that he has to take it on. Dante visits Margret alone afterwards, asking where the ruins are. Margret does not believe that his mother would want him to go there, but Dante tells her that he is not Tony. Although he had used the name Tony in the past, he is not the Tony they are looking for. Earnest summons the demon out of a stone door at the ruins, but Dante knocks him out of the way before the demon can attack him. While Dante challenges it, the demon claims that the reason he appeared in the town was to find him. Earnest faints as the ground around him burns, and wakes in a hospital. After hearing that Dante had taken him there from Ellise, Earnest runs out of his room to yell at Dante. He blames Dante for drawing the demon to the town, and tells him to never come back. Ellise later sees a box sticking out of the ground at home, in the same place Dante was looking when she brought up the promise. The short demon shows himself again when Dante is on the train. When Dante asks him why he is doing this, he tells him that he is defeating his parents. Dante prepares to cut him, but the demon has disappeared by the time he turns around.

Preview: Death Poker

Impression:

This turned out to be another surprisingly enjoyable episode. I really love the atmosphere that is given off at the end of the episode, with the extended ending track playing in the background. I really don’t know how else to describe it, but it just makes me feel kind of good after watching the episode. It’s hard not to sympathize with Dante after his trust is lost, and I loved the scene with him sitting alone thinking on the train. It was also interesting to find out about Dante’s childhood, which he has left behind. I still believe that the short demon is going to play some type of bigger role sometime in the future. I just don’t think they are having him constantly showing up for a cheap plot device, especially since he is causing so much trouble for Dante in various ways. The next episode seems to be mirroring a casino theme that so many American films are using these days. It might be a good episode, despite the usual cheezy title.

Note: I kind of forget sometimes that the original purpose of this blog was to help me study Japanese. I actually had to look up a few words today, so I thought I’d list them this time for kicks.

iseki - ruins (I’m sure I’ll use this word when I’m like…excavating Japan…..yea….)
shouko - evidence (I don’t really plan on being a lawyer…hey, still a good word to learn)
munen - chagrin (It’s pretty bad when I have to look up the english word after translating it from Japanese. Chagrin is a feeling of vexation, disappointment, or humilation.)

So yea…learning Japanese is fun. Everyone should do it. Woot.

Summary:

After Dante loses to Patty in a game of cards as usual, a customer comes in. The woman requests for Dante to save her brother from prison. Dante refuses because he is convicted of murder, and she does not seem to have any money. She places a ring on his desk instead, and disappears before he can refuse. Making his way to a bar, Dante asks the bartender of the events that have been happening recently. He tells them of the man named Carey Marcus who had been convicted of murder. He had walked into the bar from the kitchen to see Carey’s associate dead, and Carey screaming that it was his fault. After finding that Carey is now in a place called the Devil Prison, Morrison reveals himself. He warns Dante that it is a place that even he may not be able to handle. Dante passes by some punks on the way out of the bar, and he starts a brawl with them to have himself captured. This successfully lands him in the Devil Prison, stripped of his weapons. In the cell next to him is none other than Carey Marcus. When Dante asks him what happened, he tells him of the demon that had appeared while he was fishing. The demon promised to grant a wish to him, but it refused to give him things such as money or a beautiful woman. Later after losing to his friend in darts, Carey unthinkingly told him to die, and the demon granted his wish by spitting acid on his friend.

After Dante hears Carey’s story, the prison cell doors open. Carey explains to Dante that they will have to run from demons, as the prison guards transform. Dante prepares to face all of them with his bare hands, while in other places, Lady comes across the same demon Carey found. Upon finding that the demon uselessly denies her wishes, Lady blasts it with her rocket launcher. The prison guards find themselves in the same situations the prisoners were in, now that Dante has the upper hand. As they run outside, Dante kills them all. Later while playing cards with Lady in the bar that is now lively, the demon blob shows itself again. Dante drives it outside, where the two fight each other. Dante slashes it open from the inside after it consumes him, but he is shocked to see the old demon from the hotel appear to grab the demon’s remaining mask. Returning to the bar afterwards, Carey tells Dante of his now deceased sister. He guesses that she probably hated him, but Dante assures him that she didn’t by giving him the ring that he received earlier. Walking outside of the bar, Carey’s sister bows to Dante before disappearing. Patty jumps on Dante’s back shortly afterwards, requesting that he get the ice cream that she deserves.

Preview: Once Upon a Time

Impression:

I actually enjoyed this episode quite a bit. It was still a standalone story, but I did find it interesting this time. I can’t really say why though. The devil prison was really cheezy and so was the ghost sister. I guess this show just tries to give us a good feeling after watching it, and I guess it can work sometimes. It looks like Dante is growing to like Patty more as well. The last fight scene was a bit more exciting than the last few we’ve been seeing with Dante flying through the air while shooting, and the animation was also a lot better than usual. I guess Madhouse knows what episodes they should be putting their production value in. As I thought, the minor demon character is also part of a bigger plot. Hopefully that means we’ll at least get some kind of continuous plot towards the last few episodes. The next episode might be kind of cool, cause it looks like we’ll be getting closer to the scenery that mirrors the game.

Summary:

After having trouble with his jukebox, Dante kicks it over. Patty walks in while Morrison is attempting to fix it, and asks about the old record she notices on the wall. Dante explains that it isn’t something that can just be bought anywhere. Seeing that he will not be able to fix the jukebox anytime soon, Morrison instead brings up work for Dante. Dante finds himself in an old warehouse, where a man named Tim and his team are searching for things. When Tim opens up a box containing a record by Elena Houston, Dante requests that he play it. With this, a demon recognizes the sound and reacts. Hordes of demons start flying into the building, and Dante kills them off. The mermaid like demon comes in last, but runs off upon seeing Tim’s bloody body. Tim mentions that, without mistake, it was Elena.

Tim explains to Dante that he an Elena were old friends. He had introduced her to music, and eventually began promoting her through business. However, after becoming very popular, her fans would start attacking each other for tickets. Elena was disturbed by her fans’ actions one day, and upon looking in the mirror in her room, found a demon standing behind her. The demon claimed to be Elena, and took credit for her success. When Tim asks Dante what he will do about Elena, he explains that she is no longer human. Dante begins fighting the demon as she appears before them. During this time, Tim is conflicted with himself at the sight of her. He watches as Elena falls, but discovers that Dante had thrown his sword at the demon’s throat, and Elena was separated from it. Elena is happy that Tim kept her old record, and he states that it was her best. While Patty is cleaning at the Devil May Cry later, she notices that Dante has a new record on the wall.

Preview: Wishes Come True

Impression:

I’m no longer interested in this show enough to write detailed summaries anymore, but I doubt anyone cares. With that said, this episode was a bit better than the last. The whole rock queen concept was kind of cheezy, but the atmosphere was really fitting to the show. I was also pretty stoked when I heard Paku Romi’s voice as Elena. After NANA, there’s no way that I couldn’t recognize her voice. There wasn’t actually much action in this episode, but it was enough to keep it interesting I guess. There was more focus on the “touching” story about Elena’s success, and her separation from Tim. The next episode might be pretty cool, but it looks like another standalone story. We’re already half way through with the series, but I’m still hoping that we’ll get some kind of real plot soon. The standalone episodes were decent in the beginning, but it’s getting kind of old now.

Short Summary:

When a girl named Cindy suggests to a man that he should be more like Dante at the restaurant she works at, he begins following Dante around. The man constantly sees Dante doing shady work, and eventually sees him attacking demons. However, when he tells Cindy about these things, she does not believe him. The man eventually goes into the Devil May Cry to find evidence, but he finds himself surrounded by demon spirits. Making his way to a second floor room, he receives a bell from the hotel manager that went after Patty in the past. The man eventually tries to leave town, but he finds Dante in the middle of the desert. When Dante rings the bell that the man left behind in his house, hordes of demons begin appearing out of a portal. Dante takes care of all of them, before finally destroying the bell. The next time Dante arrives at the restaurant for his regular strawberry sundae, the man sits across from him and asks for the same order from Cindy.

Full Summary:

Dante walks into a restaurant and orders his usual strawberry sundae. In another corner of the restaurant, a man wonders to a girl named Cindy why he is not good enough for her. She describes her ideal man to him, and suggests that he should be more like Dante. Wondering what is so great about him, the man decides to follow Dante. Inside a club, somebody gets seduced by a woman, but Dante kicks him away and takes the woman into the girls’ bathroom. The man following Dante hears gunshots from the bathroom, and hides as Dante leaves. After running into the bathroom, he cannot find any trace of the woman. Being mistaken as a pervert, he gets knocked out by one of the club’s bouncers. When he tries to tell Cindy about Dante going into girls’ bathrooms the next day, he only gets a slap in the face. He later tries to follow Dante as he leaves the Devil May Cry, but gets chased by Patty who notices his suspicious behavior. Fortunately, he finds himself in the same bar as Dante anyways, and witnesses Morrison giving him a briefcase full of money. He follows Dante to a secluded area where he thinks Dante is meeting mafia members. They are actually demons, which Dante begins taking out in a gunfight. The man once again reports to Cindy, this time saying that Dante will kill people for money. She still doesn’t believe him, so he makes his way to the Devil May Cry at night.

The man begins shifting through Dante’s desk, but he hears a voice. At first he puts it off as his imagination, but when he looks around a second time, he sees demon spirits. Finding the front door locked and a skull appearing from it, he runs to a room on the second floor. There, the hotel manager manager who attacked Patty shows himself, providing a box to the man to uncover Dante’s identity. Lady begins knocking on the door, but after kicking it open, she finds the room empty and the window open. Now with a broken leg, the man again tries to convince Cindy that Dante is dangerous, but she is only concerned with him sneaking around while he was gone. Returning to his home, the man finally sees that there is a bell in the box he received at the Devil May Cry. Hearing a growling noise, he arms himself and walks outside. After seeing a scythe wielding demon, he hides himself in a trash can, and watches as Dante appears to kill it. He tries to tell Cindy that Dante is a demon the next day, but she thinks he is crazy. As Dante walks into the restaurant, he runs out in fear. When Dante asks Cindy if he is her boyfriend, she suggests that it could be like that, but describes his strange accusations against Dante.

As Lady collects debts from Dante in a bar, Patty mentions the strange man she saw snooping around the other day. The man begins packing his stuff, and remembers to take a picture of himself and Cindy with him. However, he leaves the bell he received behind. He starts to leave the apartment, but upon seeing Dante in the elevator, he runs back to his room to exit through the window. Dante follows him, but he gets into his car and speeds off. He stops in the middle of the desert, but finds that Dante is in front of him even there. Dante rings the bell that he picked up in the apartment, which causes a portal to appear behind him. Numerous demons come out of it, and Dante kills all of them with ease. Ringing the bell a second time, the main event shows up in the form of a much larger demon. After Dante slashes through this one, the man’s car falls apart. The man starts to sneak off, but Dante reminds him of the picture he forgot. Dante tells him that if he is going to travel on the road, he should at least bring his love with him. The man asks if Dante came all the way to tell him something like this. Dante replies that, because he is a demon, he only came to play around, as he destroys the bell. The man asks Dante what he is before he can walk off, and Dante replies that he should ask god about something like that. Later while Dante is at the restaurant, the man sits across from him, and asks Cindy for the same order as his. As he quickly starts eating the strawberry sundae, Dante mentions that it is like him to put forth so much effort.

Preview: Rock Queen

Impression:

I really wish they would stop trying to make up a plot for this show, and just give us the demon fighting we really want to see. The first half of this episode was really stupid, with the random guy following Dante around. I don’t understand if they are planning on making these random characters more important to the plot or what, but I really wasn’t interested. The old hotel manager from episode one also made a convenient reappearance, but I don’t know if that means something more important or not. The second half was a bit more fun with Dante constantly killing off demons that showed up, but it still wasn’t amazing. My prediction from last week was also incorrect, as Dante never turned into a demon. I was hoping the bell was going to play that role somehow, but oh well. Next week’s episode looks a bit more interesting, and might have more action.

Short Summary:

While hunting demons, Lady comes across someone with the same characteristics as a demon she is looking for. This demon with the power to control lightning is none other than Trish. After losing sight of her after their first fight, Lady goes to Dante to ask if he knows of her, but he denies. After another short encounter with her, Lady runs into Trish while shopping for new clothes. Lady goes to report to the priest that told her about Trish that she did not seem harmful, but he believes she is mistaken. Suddenly, Trish crashes into the church, causing another fight between the two. Dante shows up to break them up, finally introducing the two to each other. The priest is also revealed to be a demon in disguise, which the three finish off easily. After leaving the Devil May Cry, Trish is given a ride by Lady, and Dante finds that the two have sent him the bill for the damages that have been caused.

Full Summary:

A man is running in fear from a demon like dog. He screams for help as he is cornered, when Lady crashes through the gate to save him. After getting the man to run away, Lady drives while blasting the many other demons that have appeared. However, the last one is struck by lightning before she can finish it off. Looking up, she sees the figure of a woman looking down at her. The woman is Trish herself. Noticing the lightning Trish seems to generate, Lady sees that she resembles the demon a priest was warning her of. Excited from finally finding her, Lady makes her way to the roof. While Lady is making her way around, Trish appears from behind, and knocks her away. This isn’t enough to stop Lady, as she throws a grenade in Trish’s direction, and uses her gun to make it explode. Trish is not harmed from this blast, but she looks down to see that her clothes have been ruined. Lady gives chase while shooting at Trish’s feet, but Trish drops from the roof and disappears.

Lady walks into the Devil May Cry, while Dante is looking through a woman’s fashion magazine. She mentions the demon she just encountered, and wonders if he knows anything about her. Dante denies, but Lady mentions Trish’s twin handguns that seemed to resemble his. Patty walks in as Lady is leaving, then asks if Dante has looked through the magazine properly. Dante had promised to buy her something if she won in cards, but he has spent his money through his usual habits already. While trying to convince Dante, Patty accidentally knocks over the picture of his mother on the desk. This reminds Dante of Trish, as he answers an incoming call. During one of her regular stops at a shop, the owner tells Lady of someone standing outside. Lady runs out with her obtained rocket launcher, but falls back when she realizes that a grenade has been thrown at them. Looking up, she sees that it was Trish giving payback for the last encounter. Lady goes to a clothing store to purchase some new clothes, but when she goes to try some on, Trish walks out of the dressing room. They prepare themselves as they pass each other, but refuse to fight in such a place. While Trish is about to purchase a large amount of clothing, Lady draws the employees attention to herself by asking them to bring her some clothes to try on.

Returning to the church, Lady explains to the priest that she does not believe that Trish is the harmful demon he thinks she is. The priest thinks she must be mistaken, and tells her that she must go after her. Lady agrees, as she sees that Trish has already arrived. Trish crashes in from above and starts going for the priest, but Lady tells him to get out of the way. The two then scuffle with each other, as they each dodge each others’ attacks. Trish gains the upper hand first and prepares to shoot Lady, but when Lady opens her eyes after the shot, she sees that Trish has only shot off a portion of her hair. This makes her angry none the less, and uses the blade on her rocket launcher to go after Trish. Trish uses her lightning to cause an explosion inside of the church, as Dante arrives outside. The two fist fight for awhile, when Dante walks inside to break up the fight. As he clears up the misunderstanding, Trish finally introduces herself as Dante’s partner. Trish and Lady argue over their positions and Dante’s bad habits for awhile, finally relieving Lady. This brings their attention to the next thing, the fake priest. He finally walks back out after being called out, and transforms into his true form. This doesn’t do him much good, because the three finish him on quite easily on the spot. Dante sees Trish off at the Devil May Cry later, mentioning that she can come back anytime. Trish tells him to take care of himself as well as she leaves, and finds that Lady is outside to give her a ride on her bike. Dante smiles as he watches them drive off, but someone addresses him before he can close the door. He finds that the woman has a bill for the damages caused, left to him by the two girls. Meanwhile, Patty walks back to the Devil May Cry with a bag full of new clothes, bought with Dante’s money.

Preview: In Private

Impression:

Well this episode was decent, but probably my least favorite so far. This episode was very action based, as I suspected, with two major fights between Lady and Trish. I thought the first one was pretty cool, but the second one with the girly type arguing was really silly. I don’t see how they are trying to give them girlish charm, because to me, Lady and Trish have always been pretty unattractive. The fact that the animation was all over the place in this episode didn’t help. I couldn’t help but notice that everyone’s eyes looked dead, and the scene where Dante came into the church was just horrible. You didn’t think I would notice, did you Madhouse!? I was really excited to see the fake priest turn into one of the monsters from the game, because I could recognize it right off hand. Speaking of that, I found it funny that this episode tried to give off the same appeal as the game. It had Lady and Trish changing clothes half way through the episode, the same type of reward you would be trying to get in the game. The preview has one scene with Dante glowing red, so does that hint a devil trigger activation? I’m not going to keep my hopes up, but if my guess is right I am going to be very excited for the next episode.

Short Summary:

After falling down the steps one day, Angelina meets a man named Brad who heals her wound. They fall in love, and see each other regularly afterwards. Dante is offered a job from Angelina’s father Mike, asking him to kill Brad because he believes that he is a demon. Dante follows Brad, and witnesses his meeting of another demon. Brad does not intend to fight Dante, but wonders if love between demons and humans is possible. He is satisfied with Dante’s answer and prepares to die, but finds that Dante only finishes off the other demon. Angelina finds her father wounded at home, being sacrificed by their butler for demon power. Before the butler can kill Angelina, Dante appears to stop him. After Dante finishes off the demon that appears, Brad heals Mike’s wounds. Dante apologizes for not being able to fulfill Mike’s request, because he only kills demons. Back at the Devil May Cry, Patty sees that Dante looks happy, despite taking on another penniless job.

Full Summary:

A girl worries about her father scolding her for being late, as she runs down a set of stairs. She losses her footing and hurts herself, but a man appears to heal her wound. The man will not tell her if what he did was some sort of magic, but he introduces himself as Brad when she asks if they will ever meet again. They do meet again, as a happy couple. Later, the girl’s father refers to the girl as Angelina, as he tells her to stay in her room. Having their butler lock her room, he tells her that this is for her own good. Meanwhile at the Devil May Cry, Patty is very upset that their TV has broken. She tells Dante to buy a new one, but he reminds her that he doesn’t have any money. Morrison appears to drive Dante to a job offering, telling him that this job would pay a lot of money. Arriving at the mansion, Dante and Morrison meet Angelina’s father, Mike. Showing Dante a photo of the target, he tells Dante to kill Brad. Dante doesn’t believe that Brad is a demon, but Morrison tells him of the incidents that have been occurring. Mike mentions that the culprit was not believed to be human, and tells Dante that he saw Brad’s powers one night when he picked up his daughter. Meanwhile, Angelina has managed to escape the mansion to tell Brad about what she just overheard. She begs him to run away with her, but Brad tells her to go back home.

Later that night, Dante follows Brad into a bar. Sitting next to him, he orders a beer and pizza from the bartender. When Dante asks Brad what he is reading, he replies that it is a romance novel. After receiving his beer and having a toast with Brad, he asks Brad where he is from, noticing that he doesn’t look like he is from around their area. Brad does not answer, and leaves as Dante receives his pizza. Outside in an alleyway, Dante interferes with Brad’s meeting of another demon. The demon attacks Dante, but he easily drives it away with his guns. Dante is surprised to hear that Brad actually knows who he is, the famous devil hunter Dante. Brad has no intentions of running away after being confirmed to be a demon, but wants to ask one thing. Brad asks if Dante saw happiness between his demon and human parents, and although he cannot give him a solid answer, Dante replies that the couple’s love seemed genuine to him. Satisfied with this answer, Brad prepares to die. However, when Dante pulls the trigger to his gun, it is to finish off the demon who hid himself earlier. Later, Brad tells Dante how he became attached to the human world, and despairs that he cannot do anything for Angelina who was kind to him. Dante tells him that he may not be able to do anything as a demon, but he may be able to as a human.

Angelina hears a crash inside the mansion, and breaks out of her room to find out what it is. She finds her father injured in a pool of blood, and their butler behind her with a knife to her neck. When she asks why he is doing this, the butler explains that it is to obtain demon power. The butler prepares to kill Angelina as she tries to run away, but is stopped by blasts through the door. Dante appears to stop him, even though he claims that it is too late. Brad also crashes through one of the windows, and moves Angelina’s father out of the way. Dante drops from a chandelier to kill the massive demon that has appeared, and Brad prepares to heal Mike’s wounds afterwards. Mike declares that he will not let him win his daughter like this, but Brad replies that he just didn’t want to see Angelina’s sad face. Dante apologizes for not being able to complete the requested job, because he only kills demons. Back at the Devil May Cry, Patty complains impatiently to Morrison who is fixing the TV. Dante looks at a picture that was sent to him from a happy Brad and Angelina, while Morrison reminds him that he still has no money because of that. Morrison leaves after fixing the TV, and Patty mentions that Dante seems happy despite having no money. She says that it would be nice if the two could remain happy, and when she turns to look at Dante, she finds that he has fallen asleep with a smile on his face.

I thought this was an awesome episode. People who don’t like Patty need to chill out. I love her role in the Devil May Cry, and she just lightens up the mood. I also love Dante’s “pssh” responses to things like having olives left on his pizza. The happy ending was good, with Patty finally having the TV fixed and the pictures Dante receives. I think it was satisfying to Dante, because he is of course, half demon and half human. At first, I was iffy about the episodic story, but I think it works out. All of the stories so far have just fleshed out Dante’s sense of justice. I still didn’t think there was enough demon fighting in this episode, especially compared to the first episode, but I think the next episode will make up for it. We get to see Dante and Lady fighting, and finally see Trish!

In my gaming news, I beat Devil May Cry 3 with Dante and Vergil. I had a lot of fun with that, but when I tried to start playing DMC2, I was pretty let down. That game is really bad…I started replaying the first game and even it was a lot better. Oh well, maybe I was too overwhelmed by the third installment’s awesomeness. I’ll try picking it back up later, but I don’t think I really need to. I don’t think Lucia is even going to show up in the anime.
