OP: “Tenshi Ranman Love Power” by Halko Momoi, Sakura Nogawa, Rika Morinaga, Eri Kitamura – I’m loving that they’re actually putting effort into making these new OPs. Again, the single for this was already released quite some time ago. Digging that swinging motion.

Summary:

Through a ridiculous turn of events, involving her sneeze destroying a large piece of property, Akeno is forced to work at a maid cafe to pay for the damage. When San and the others arrive at the cafe to see her there, the girls offer to help Akeno as her friends. Of course, with San in a maid outfit, Nagasumi and Gouzaburou both become jealous of others as well as won over by her appearance. Luna suddenly appears in a maid outfit as well, then using her large gathering of followers in order to make business quickly. Although the leader of her fan club is ready to sacrifice anything for her, he soon finds that the order Luna wishes for him to make is far out of his budget. When Luna’s father arrives with a large sum of money, and only asking for a smile, even he fails in having Luna agree to such a thing.

Satori eventually shows up to the delight of both San and Nagasumi, but she surprises everyone by revealing that Saru is her older brother. Satori goes on to win over Gouzaburou, and when the cafe’s manager allows her to be a waitress as well, a big competition starts between herself and Luna. Making the situation even more interesting, Gouzaburou and his associates eventually order from San’s special menu, which she performs in the form of a song. Not wanting to lose to the power of San’s music, Luna replies with her own. In effect, however, the cafe starts becoming quite damaged from the chaos. Akeno is unable to hold in her anger for any longer, but in effect, she completely obliterates the cafe with her power.

Because of their studies, Luna and Nagasumi end up staying home while San and the rest of their families go out to party one night. Luna becomes extremely frightened after watching parts of a scary movie, and despite Nagaumi’s attempt to calm her down, she shows him that she was once involved in a ghost photo with San. Nagasumi eventually gets a call from San, informing the two learn that she and the others wouldn’t be returning for the night. This leaves them alone for the evening, as frightening events start happening around them. This scares the two out of their wits, and Luna eventually brings up a time where San was hesitant about talking about the ghost photo when she showed it to her. Apparently, there was someone who wanted to meet San. The two soon receive an extremely frightening phone call, and Nagasumi even sees a creature grab onto his leg as Luna runs out of the house in fear.

The next day at school, Luna does her best to explain what had happened the previous night. When she tries to convince Akeno, the class learns that she is clearly afraid of ghosts. As the spirit that appeared before seems to show up at the school as well, several of the usual students attempt to discover its identity. This only results in the students disappearing one by one, however, until no one is left but Luna. San arrives to the school late, meeting Luna in her frightened state and finally meeting the culprit who has been causing all of the panic. This is someone named Sa-tan, an old friend of San who had been wanting to meet her for quite some time. When San looks up at the school ceiling, she sees that everyone had been captured in seaweed rather than having truly disappeared. San eventually sees her old friend off, then making a promise with her just as they did as children.

ED: A slow song by SUN and LUNAR. It’s pretty fitting for the ED, but this really isn’t something I’m used to after hearing so many high tension singles from Momoi and Nogawa.

Impression:

A scared Luna is c….cute!!! The first half of this episode had me running out of breath laughing, but Nagasumi alone with Luna in the second half made my night. I mean, come on. The scary movie thing is like one of the biggest cliches of awesomeness ever….and it’s almost never used in anime. This show wouldn’t be the same without songs though, and the first half definitely provided that (at complete random). By the end of this OVA, the last out of the two that would be released, we really just got what we always have from Seto no Hanayome – high tension humor.

I can’t say I would ever become attached to either of the two new minor characters that were introduced in this short series. Satori kills my ears, and we didn’t see enough of Sa-tan to really get a fell for her character. (Also, Sa-tan? Is that an intentional pun? Am I understanding this right?) The OVA brought back most all of the good memories I had for the series when it first aired though, with even better animation and production value. When I look back on it all, I’d definitely have to say that Momoi Halko and Nogawa Sakura easily made this entire series worthwhile. Without them, I’m certain this would have ended up being another bad gonzo adaption. It looks like this is the end of SnH for awhile, but at least we’re going out with a bang!

OP: “Zettai Otome” by SUN&LUNAR – Yea!! The OP wins! I’d call the animation lazy or unoriginal during some points, but this is definitely fun to watch. It’s also notable that the single has been out for awhile already.

Summary:

At the start of the new semester, Nagasumi and the others notice that they have become third years. All of the usual friends then learn that they are in the same class together again, with the exception of Nagasumi. Obviously due to Gouzaburou’s work, Nagasmi finds himself in a broken down classroom full of thugs. Some of the students express surprise and annoyance when Fujishiro shows up as the new teacher for the class, but they are quickly disposed of. Fujishiro then suggests that, for class that day, the students would draw weapons contained in their desks to fight each other with. Meanwhile in the other classroom, Gouzaburou introduces a new student to the class. This turns out to be Luna’s Papa in a sailor uniform, and when he gets into a usual fight with Gouzaburou, the students are forced to retreat.

San and Luna meet Nagasumi during his one sided battle, and Luna quickly has her forces appear to battle the thugs chasing him. This is enhanced by Luna’s song, but San then counters this with her own melody. When San makes everyone realize that they do not truly want to fight each other, they are all touched. Nagasumi soon notices a particularly threatening individual send an attack towards San, but before he can connect, Nagasumi transforms into his large protective self to defeat him. The girls then realize that Gouzaburou and Luna’s papa have not ended their fight yet, but Nagasumi volunteers to stop this as well. He trips over his previous “weapon” on the way, however, sending him to the nurse’s office at the start of the semester.

On a latter day, Nagasumi and San have a date at the movies. Nagasumi can hardly hold in his excitement, having planned out the perfect plan already, but he is surprised when San implies that she wishes to see a different movie than the one he had picked previously. Nagasumi settles for this, but while walking through the theater, he is run into by a young girl who drops ice cream on his jacket. San becomes attached to this girl when she finds that she is also a fan of the character from the movie they will be seeing, causing a loss for Nagasumi as they part ways. Nagasumi surprisingly meets Masa next to him during the movie, and the young girl from before appears to be in the seats in front of him. With a little interference from Maki, Nagasumi’s movie turns out to be a bit different than desired.

When the group exits the theater, a truck suddenly crashes into the nearby building. San quickly moves to help those around, but she soon realizes that the girl from earlier is still in the building on a high floor. Inspired by San’s acts, Nagasumi can only run back into the building to help the girl. Nagasumi saves the girl through numerous obstacles after meeting her, and with the help of San’s song, he is able to bring her to safety. Until the end, the girl continues to insist that Nagasumi use the heroic lines that were in the movie they had just watched. San scolds Nagasumi in the aftermath, expressing how worried she was about him, and the young girl is delighted to learn Nagasumi’s name as he leaves with the others. When the young girl returns home, it is revealed that she is actually Saru’s younger sister.

ED: “Mirai e Go” by DEKABANCHO – Woah! So chaotic!! Like most of the other singles this series has produced, I do like the song. The animation is just kind of “meh” to me though.

Preview: Akeno!!!

Impression:

LOVE POWER!!!! Oh man, this was 30 minutes of pure hilarity and greatness. It was awesome to see all of our favorite characters return, and hearing them was even better. The episode was much like every episode of the original series: full speed and high tension. The Battle Royal-like event from the start of the episode was simply hilarious, and the songs’ return just added to that. (Gotta love those sakura petals.) The second half of the episode was just as good, though I can’t say I really liked Saru’s sister that much. It wasn’t that her character was bad, but I cannot stand the voice actress that plays her. I’m sure this won’t be the last we see of her, so maybe my impression will change by the next episode. I loved Nagasumi’s mention of the use of explosions and the such in modern movies too. I facepalm every time I see a movie become a blockbuster because of its mindless action. (Also, make sure to note the Dark Night and 300 parodies on the surrounding movie posters.) Besides that, there wasn’t that much to actually talk about in this episode. Just watch it and enjoy it. Can’t wait for the second episode.

Oh my god.

Well, I’m certainly ready for more mermaid gangsters. That’s for sure. But really, who didn’t see this coming?

Summary:

Saru joins Nagasumi and the others on the submarine, as they head into the enemy’s territory. Luna explains the situation to Nagasumi as well, before using her voice to break through the land mines. Inside their cell, Gouzaburou and Maki try their best to break out. Ren attempts to calm them down, but even she feels guilty for letting San get captured. Yoshio explains to his groupies that he plans to marry San, and reminds Akeno of her position. Kai’s submarine finally arrives, crashing into the Minamoto base. Guards quickly arrive to stop them, but Kai’s forces face off against them with the help of Luna’s song.

Yoshio prepares to play with San, but he is stopped by Nagasumi’s entrance. Nagasumi yells for him to return San, but Akeno is called in to face off against him. Unable to defy her orders, she points her sword at Nagasumi. Believing that Nagasumi and San’s relationship was impossible, she tells him to run for his own life. However, Nagasumi reminds her of what she became a swordsman for. With this, she turns around to face Yoshio instead. Yoshio calls out a giant eel to attack them, but Gouzaburou appears to stop it before it can eat Nagasumi.

Yoshio soon leaves, after summoning his followers to take care of the situation. The rest of the Seto family appears to face off against them, and Ren advises Nagasumi to run. Reminded of what San has done for him, Nagasumi instead declares that he will save her. With the help up everyone’s powers, including Luna’s father who appears onto the scene, Nagasumi heads to San. Yoshio begins beating up on Nagasumi as soon as he appears, and reveals the way he subdued San. Nagasumi is unable to get past Yoshio, but he is able to express his feelings for San.

As the ring falls from Nagasumi’s hand, San awakens from his voice. Yoshio prepares to fire at San in her defiance, but Nagasumi steps in front of her. San prepares to give Nagasumi her song, but Yoshio fires at him before this is possible. To his surprise, Nagasumi steps back up. Even without San’s song, Nagasumi gains power just by being her side. Stopping Yoshio’s bullets with his pure power, Nagasumi finishes him off with many strikes in the name of San. Yoshio’s true appearance is revealed in his defeat, ruining him. San beings to apologize to Nagasumi in tears, but he replies by confessing his love and putting the ring on her finger. With this, San agrees as she falls into his arms.

ED: Life goes on as usual, but Nagasumi now has a manly appearance in order to be by San’s side. San also has the shining ring wrapped around her finger. All of the characters are now shown in the original ED.

Impression:

I don’t think it even needs to be said…….ok…….it does. This episode was EPIC. If you can remember the feelings you had when you watched the first climax, this was even better. From the beginning to the end, there were so many awesome moments. Akeno’s fighting against her friends reminded me of a cheesy Chinese drama, but it was great. The Seto family’s entrance had me in absolute joy, and Gouzaburou’s acceptance of Nagasumi just added to that. I was almost afraid that San was going to save Nagasumi again after she woke up, but they didn’t screw it up. His transformation was well deserved, as he finally protected San as necessary. I loved how the ring played a part in all of this. That and Nagasumi’s will to save San almost had me in tears. I think Seto no Hanayome’s perfect placements of jokes in the middle of the drama prevented that though. The final impression is up next, and I think you know what I’m going to say.

Seto no Hanayome is definitely one of the biggest surprises of the past two seasons, and a very pleasant one at that. When I first started blogging this, I almost dropped it out of boredom. I’m glad I didn’t. Ironically, this show quickly picked up to become my favorite love comedy of season. Now that it is over, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call this one of my favorite love comedies of all time. Almost every episode had me laughing until my sides hurt, and I was left breathless after episodes like the finale. That’s not to say that some episodes were a bit on the low side, but I quickly forgave that when I saw the roles they played in episodes following.

There’s just no other show that made me lose my senses so much, as this anime really made me want to scream out “moe” like a ranging otaku fanboy. This is credited to the great character development from all of the characters. Just like the series itself, I found most of the characters annoying at first, but grew to love all of them. That’s the joy of this show. If anyone is reading this and is iffy about picking up Seto no Hanayome after a first impression, please give it a try. You will be very surprised. Who would have ever thought that I could love a Gonzo show so much? More love comedies please!

If you like her so much, why don’t you marry her?

Summary:

While reporting to her unsatisfied superior, Akeno is is given a party invitation to draw San to him. Nagasumi is watching TV while San tries to talk to him about laundry, but he does not pay much attention to her at all. Nagasumi simply grabs the remote back from her when she turns the TV off, and he becomes excited after finding Luna on a TV program. Finding that he is much more interested in Luna, San brings up their marriage. Nagasumi unthinkingly mentions that they only got married because of the course of events, which shocks San. This makes them both get into a small argument, and Nagasumi refuses to apologize even after hearing his parents’ advice.

At school, everyone else sees that the two are clearly arguing as well. Mawari convinces San that Nagasumi would be the one to apologize, while Akeno listens from a bathroom stall. Kai approaches San in the classroom, but Akeno stops her before he can say something unnecessary. The Seto family then meets with Akeno to discuss the part invitation sent by MinamotoYoshio. Gouzaburou prepares to deny his participation, but it is a hard offer to refuse. San also agrees to go after being asked by her mom.

When Luna hears about Nagasumi’s argument with San, she gives him some of her special treatment. San suddenly appears to the scene, but neither of them are able to apologize yet. San says the phrase “honarana” to Nagasumi before leaving him. Maki wonders if it is ok for San to not tell Nagasumi about the party while she prepares in her room, and she decides to leave him alone. San sees the ring Nagasumi gave her in her jewelry box, and she decides not to bring something so precious after her memories of that day return.

The next day, Nagasumi finds that San is gone. His parents have no idea where she is either. Nagasumi brings up the phrase San told him to his dad, knowing that it was a Seto dialect. His dad replies that it can mean “yorushikun” or “gokigenyo”, which troubles Nagasumi. Nagasumi’s mind is troubled all throughout his day at school, as he finds that the rest of the Seto family is gone. Kai confronts Akeno about the family’s appearance, and he finds out the situation even without her response. Hearing the name Minamoto Yoshio, Luna appears to warn of his actions as well. Luna wonders if they will take Nagasumi as well, and Kai replies that it is up to Nagasumi’s feelings.

Nagasumi continues to think about San while wandering around town, finding no clues to her location. Nagasumi sees the ring left behind in San’s room, which makes him despair at the thought of not knowing what she meant by the last words she said to him. The Seto family finds that they are the only guests at the Minamoto party, and Yoshio quickly becomes excited after seeing San. Smelling a fragrance in the room, the Seto family is quickly put to sleep. Before San faints, she calls out Nagasumi’s name.

Mawari meets Nagasumi while he looks into the distance on a bridge, and she expresses that he is not being his usual self. After her encouraging words, Nagasumi decides that he cannot be without San. He yells out that he will do anything to take her back, which results in Kai’s submarine showing up right away. Kai declares that they will bring San back, promising to give Nagasumi the details later. Nagasumi enters the submarine to see Luna, and Mawari salutes them off in the sunset. Elsewhere, the Seto family remains trapped with Yoshio preparing to do something to San.

Translation note: I’ve been coming across this lately, but some Japanese phrases just don’t come off the same in english. “Honarana” is a Seto dialect which can have multiple meanings according to Nagasumi’s father. It can mean “yorushikun”, which typically means “pleased to meet you” in english, or it can mean “gokigenyo”, which is typically used as a more formal greeting to someone. However, The words can mean different things. Basically, Nagasumi is troubled by not knowing what kind of goodbye that is. Ah~ why didn’t I just write a short summary to cover this up? Japanese study is fun!

Preview: Nagasumi’s turn to save San

Impression:

Oh no. In preparation for the final episode, this one is the build up to a huge climax. I guess the series will be ending with a second huge event. The beginning of the episode started off with some typical relationship quarrels, but being Seto no Hanayome, this lead up to something pretty bad. I’m sure San was showing some jealousy towards Nagasumi’s liking of Luna again, and the leaving of the ring obviously had a bigger impact than intended. Yoshio is an annoyingly creepy character, and he reminds me of that guy from Fruits Basket (I forgot his name, but he’s got the lisp and everything.). I’m guessing that his action against San will end up being something silly though. Also, I know this is for the build up, but did anyone else think that Luna’s personality change was a bit too dramatic in this episode? Mawari was a bit off as well. I really loved the ending BGM, and it’s just leading us on to the powerful climax. With all the episodes leading up to this, it’s Nagasumi’s turn to show us what he’s got. On another note, Ren in a china dress was awesome and San might have been extra cute this episode. Who wouldn’t want a wife like that?

LOVE AND PEACE!

Summary:

Kai walks out of the clinic with a bag of medicine, but he panics at the sight of his classmates. Noticing his strange actions, they wonder if there is anything wrong with him. Kai puts it off as a cold, before running away. Unconvinced, Mawari decides to investigate Kai. The next day at school, she follows him everywhere until he takes refuge in the boy’s bathroom. Inside, he gets out the cream that he must apply for the rash on his bottom. Saru does not agree with Mawari and the others’ beliefs, so he runs outside. He passes by Kai’s doctors, and misunderstands their conversation by believing that Kai will die soon. In reality, they were complaining about his rude actions.

Saru meets Kai on the school rooftop, expressing his sadness about his condition. Kai makes Saru swear not to tell anyone else, and the situation does not become clear to either of them. Nagasumi and the others find Saru’s extra devoted actions towards Kai strange, so he takes Nagasumi outside to tell him what he has learned. This makes Nagasumi treat Kai with respect as well, as he gives him pictures of San and invites him to his home that night. The girls are still confused, so Saru drags them all into the hallway to explain the situation. This moves them all to tears, and the whole school gets involved by holding a party for Kai.

Kai basks in his glory even once he gets home to his submarine, but he becomes confused after watching the TV. Seeing all the events that are happening, he despairs at the thought of dying. He seeks out Saru that night, bringing up that the doctors said he would heal with medicine. After slapping him, Saru claims there is no way this could be true. Kai despairs further at his impending death, but he arranges one more thing for him to do before he dies.

The next day, Nagasumi arrives at the school where Kai stands in front of the news and many students. Even though San is Nagasumi’s wife, Kai fights for her. He takes off his helmet in the sun, and begins slashing at Nagasumi. Although he tries to act cool, it becomes obvious that Nagasumi cannot face it. Nagasumi punches Kai in his despairing state, so Kai falls to his knees while begging for people to like him. San appears in front of him to make him realize that she has friends all around him, and Nagasumi breaks into tears. After realizing that he is not alone, Kai falls to the ground. The next day, Nagasumi takes off Kai’s helmet in anger from the misunderstanding that was caused.

Preview: Trouble for Nagasumi. Kai makes a move on San?

Impression:

There were a lot of funny parts in this episode, but I don’t know if the anticlimactic end came off very well for me. I kept what was really happening in the back of my head the whole time, and I totally saw what was coming as soon as I saw the nurse laughing in the beginning of the episode. I found a lot of the earlier parts of this episode really funny, with Mawari following Kai around everywhere and San’s usual silliness. Everyone’s misunderstanding was pretty hysterical too. Was that a gold fish scooter? The TV parody had me giving this episode Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei parallels, because it represented the media’s blowing things out of proportion. I was also a bit confused about why Kai needed his space suit at night. I thought he was only afraid of the sun? Nagasumi looked pretty cool at the end of the episode, but he’s obviously only human against a big sword. The Saru shirts were pretty great, and I wonder where Nagasumi got those San photos. The highlight of this episode for me definitely had to be Luna’s “LOVE AND PEACE” though. There’s only two more episodes left, so I hope we can get some great stories to cap off this awesome series.

Those forgotten memories…that sibling love…

Summary:

Masa expresses to Mama at the bar that he has been seeing dreams of the past lately, where a small crying girl was calling out to him. He does not know if they are really dreams of his past, but he feels as if it is familiar. Akeno rushes over to help a young boy and his sister from a group of bullies. The boy exclaims that he could have taken care of them on his own, so Akeno agrees that boys should be that way. As the siblings run home, Akeno reflects on the relationship. Akeno confronts Masa at the school later about the swordsmanship he taught San, but he tells her that he cannot remember where he learned it. When asked why she is interested, Akeno tells Nagasumi and San that the sword style was certainly her family’s. She tells them of her brother that taught her swordsmanship, and how he disappeared on a mission to test the Seto family. Masa denies that he knows where Akeno’s brother is, but he says that teaching San was half for himself. Practicing the sword gave him a reminiscent feeling. San suggests that they visit the dojo to find clues, but she finds that Nagasumi has disappeared. Gouzaburou who has been watching from afar has pulled Nagasumi over to him. Asking for Nagasumi’s cooperation, Gouzaburou explains what happened in the past. During a festival, Gouzaburou had invited the inspector for a drink. Gouzaburou began talking about his cute daughter, so Akeno’s brother unthinkingly mentioned that Gouzaburou’s attachment to San would be tough for his future son. Upon that mention, Gouzaburou declared that he would not hand over his daughter to anyone. Gouzaburou hit Akeno’s brother in his drunk state, causing him to lose his memory. This person is no other than Masa himself.

Nagasumi and Gouzaburou spy on Masa and the others from outside the dojo, believing that they must keep his identity hidden to protect his life. Masa requests to see Akeno’s sword, which makes him feel a nostalgic feeling. Nagasumi attempts to take the sword out of his hands, but Akeno quickly throws him against the wall. Masa expresses the feelings for Akeno that have appeared inside of him, which makes San believe that he has fallen in love with her. Gouzaburou and Nagasumi hope that they will continue to believe that, but Masa goes for the sword again. When Nagasumi tries to get between the two again, San believes that it is because of his attachment to the person of his “first kiss”. Iinchou approaches Gouzaburou from behind, to see Nagasumi dancing with Masa. San and Akeno also have a misunderstanding, and Gouzaburou tells Iinchou that Nagasumi is turned on by Masa’s traits. Masa is still determined to touch Akeno’s sword, but Gouzaburou rushes in to knock him down for his sake. This brings back his memories for a second, and San also knocks over Akeno in an attempt to protect her from danger. When Akeno gets up, her mentality is reverted to her child’s form. Nagasumi and San chase her as she runs out of the dojo.

Masa sees his other self in his conscience, and he apologizes to him about forgetting about his memories. Because the body belongs to his other self, Masa prepares to disappear. However, his family appears around him in a dazzling field. Masa’s other self tells him that the years he lived were real, and that he does not want the same thing that happened between himself and Akeno to be repeated. He tells Masa that he will continue living inside of him, and to take care of his sister. Masa wakes from his unconscious state, and shows himself to a crying Akeno on the school roof. Masa embraces Akeno and swears to protect her, but she denies that he is acting like her brother. Akeno continues to run away, so San throws her off the roof to revert her back. When Akeno wakes up in the nurse’s office, Ren explains to San that she does not remember anything that happened. As she gets up, Akeno expresses the nostalgic feeling she has. Gouzaburou asks Masa what he will do from now on above the river. To his and Nagasumi’s suprise, Masa decides to leave things the way they are. With this, everyone returns home. Nagasumi tries to convince San that he was acting earlier, but his words do not get through to her. Elsewhere, Iinchou visits Mama’s beauty salon, and requests a haircut like Masa’s to gain Nagasumi’s favor.

Preview: Kai centric story

Impression:

Loli San and San in a pink ribbon were moe!! This episode was so good. I would have never expected this turn of events from the last episode’s preview. Masa’s other self was just as cool as he is now, just in a very different way. Someone tell me the voice actor that voices him. Once again, I can recognize the voice very clearly, but I cannot match it to a name. I’m so bad with male seiyus. The conscious scene was also very cool, though strange to see in a love comedy. I’m still going to say that Gonzo working on this kind of show creates surprisingly good results. This episode was also good for Akeno’s character development. Her child form was so cute! I think I like her a lot more after this episode. Her brother complex was really fun to watch, but it’s a shame that she will remain ignorant to the truth. The majority of the humor in this episode was centered around the numerous misunderstandings, and the episode was much more entertaining than last weeks. San’s “Akeno-chi!” was also adorable. Next week’s episode puts Kai in the spotlight. There are only a few more episodes left, so I’m hoping for a joyride until the end.

That isn’t moe either.

Summary:

Nagasumi and San talk about all the work Luna must do for being an idol, when Luna expresses her troubles about the next job. She needs someone to help her with the role of a boyfriend for an upcoming drama. She will not accept Nagasumi’s offer to help, so she has San help her instead. The next day, the family becomes frightened at the sight of San playing the role of a manly man. On the way to school, San tries her best to play the role of Luna’s boyfriend by covering a puddle with her coat for her and defending her from a cat. Luna decides to have someone else help her instead, and when she announces this at school, Luna’s followers show up to cause havok. This makes all three factions show themselves again: Sun, Lunar, and Mawari’s girls. San shows up suddenly in her manly getup, which makes the Sun team wonder what they have been fighting for. Gouzaburou also shows up and panics at the sight of San. When they get home, Luna gives up on San, and reverts her back to normal. She instead decides to practice for another role, and this time asks for Maki’s help. Maki refuses at first, but becomes convinced after San asks her to help.

The next day, everyone finds that Luna has a puppet on her hand that can talk extremely well. The class gathers around Luna and the puppet as it talks about her love for San. However, Maki goes on to talk about Luna’s negative traits, which causes Luna to get angry at her. When Akeno discovers what is going on, she warns Luna not to take Maki anywhere a television broadcast. Luna will not give up, so Akeno gathers help from the fish brothers and Kai. They attempt to stop Luna before she can reach her manager in the limo below, but Maki uses her rocket shell to jump out of the window. Luna looks up to see San fighting Akeno for her, and Akeno finds that San is fighting for her friendship. Maki excitedly flies towards San, but Luna falls from a very high distance in the process. After Luna has recovered, she has San help her with her script normally. When Nagasumi asks why he cannot help, Luna mutters under her breath that she would it would cause problems if he did. Maki shows up again in her frightening puppet suit, but she is soon attacked by the Michishiro cat.

Preview: Masa background story?

Ah, it had to come sometime. This episode just wasn’t as epic as the past few we’ve been given. San’s otoko form was a real turn off, and although mini Luna was pretty funny, it didn’t save the episode. Even if it didn’t last long, I hoped to never see the Sun and Lunar faction wars again. Some of the funnier parts of the episode included San coming out of her otoko form (give me back my beard!), Maki’s interaction with Luna, and of course the usual over the top ending (let’s call an ambulance…). I do think that they used to soundtrack quite well as usual, and it was kind of fun to see the cat from earlier episodes reappear randomly. The end of the episode explained why Luna wouldn’t accept Nagasumi’s help, and it’s obviously because she would develop feelings for him again if she did. I’m kind of interested in what these hand gesters mean, because she only other place I’ve seen them is in Zombie Loan. Hopefully the next episode will be more interesting, with a new character related to Masa showing up.

Move aside, Nanoha. Iinchou is a mahou shoujo!

Summary:

Nagasumi becomes excited after receiving a love letter, because it is the first one he has ever received. He tries to hide this from San and the others, but Maki and Luna make it so that it is revealed to the entire class. Nagasumi goes outside to meet with the girl later, while San and the others watch. San doesn’t really want to watch, but someone appears before she can go home. This happens to be Luna’s father in a sailor uniform. Because of the commotion he and Gouzaburou start causing, Iinchou never gets the chance to reveal that it was her who gave Nagasumi the love letter. Nagasumi states his troubles to Ren later, so she suggests a mermaid drink to him. Nagasumi drinks the potion, even after remembering all of the bad things that the mermaid drinks have done in the past. The potion happens to be one that makes the girls fall for him, and the men despise him. Even after escaping Ren, the entire class starts causing havoc for Nagasumi. The confusion continues when he reaches home, as his mother sees a vision of Masa while looking at him. The girls also follow him to the bathroom. The potion wears off the next day, but Nagasumi opens his locker to find another love letter. Iinchou arrives this time in her pretty form, but she quickly confesses to the wrong person. San apologizes to her, making Iinchou run off in embarrassment. Seeing that she still has a chance, Iinchou returns to try again, but her transformation is flawed. With this, Iinchou leaves depressed after another failure to convey her feelings.

Preview: More school antics, with Luna having some type of problem

Impression:

I don’t know if I can say this, but this episode might have been even better than the last one. The episode had already started with some funny engrish lines from Nagasumi and Luna’s father, and the random return of the sailor uniform. Iinchou’s love letter story also showed that her previous episode was just something necessary for this one, making me feel more redeeming towards it. The love potion reminded me of one of the very early Negima! stories, but it was just a bit different. Seeing everyone’s view of Nagasumi was absolutely hilarious, especially his mother’s. As usual, the episode ended with a completely over the top climax, as Iinchou’s transformation scene made no sense at all. The after episode extra was kind of funny too, with Mawari in full cop mode. Next week’s episode looks just as fun, so hopefully Seto no Hanayome can stay strong until the soon to come end.

Summary:

After looking through the field trip pictures, Nagasumi and San find a depressed Luna in the classroom. While suffering from her abuse, Nagasumi discovers Luna’s father outside. He asks Nagasumi what he should do to make Luna happy, but Nagasumi tells him that Luna is doing well and that he doesn’t need money to make her happy. Nagasumi tries to convince him to have skinship with Luna, but she throws him out of the school after discovering him. While researching how to get closer to his daughter, Luna’s father discovers galge through a search engine. The next day on the way to school, Luna and the others witness the horrifying sight of her father in a female school uniform. The madness continues when everyone else sees this at school, including Gouzaburou. However, after learning what he is doing this for, Gouzaburou decides to try as well. Gouzaburou seeks out Masa and Fujishiro to help him play a galge, right after they have had a conversation about his orders being absolute. That night, the three try their hardest to play a galge. Nagasumi wakes to the shocking sight of Masa calling him onii-chan. Gouzaburou and Luna’s father are also out of their mind, as they chase their daughters to the school rooftop. Ren eventually appears to set things straight, telling the two that they do not need to do things like that to reach their daughters. Coming to realization, the two apologize to San and Luna. Gouzaburou puts the neko mimi he was wearing on San’s head, which makes her embarrassed for the rest of the day. However, she seems to have taken a secret liking for the cosplay when she gets home.

Impression:

Seto no Hanayome is the funniest love comedy of the spring AND summer seasons, hands down. I wasn’t expecting an episode like this at all, so the galge references seemed to come out of nowhere. The funny thing is, they got all of the stereotypes right on the dot. I remember thinking “uguu~” when I saw Gouzaburou with the taiyaki….then he ACTUALLY SAID IT! Oh man, I am still laughing. The fun continued with the hilarious skit at the end of the episode, and San’s adventure home mirrored those of h-game adaption/harem anime. If they had a full episode of San and Luna cosplaying instead of their parents, I wouldn’t complain at all. I also love how Nagasumi calls Luna’s dad “Luna-chan no papa” and Ren “San-chan no kasan”. Despite all the ridiculousness, we got a bit of development with Luna’s father, and I could empathize with Luna losing her mother. Watching her go tsuntsun for Nagasumi’s mom was so cute. It looks like the other side of Iinchou will appear again in the next episode, and Ren will be looking pretty hot.
