Short Summary:

Matsuri fails to strike Aono because of her wound. Aono prepares to attack her, but Yorito stands in her way. Aono escapes, giving Matsuri and Yorito enough time to talk to each other one last time. Matsuri leaves Yorito, seeing that he is falling apart due to Aono’s losing of power. As Aono and Matsuri walk toward each other for their last fight, they remember the happy times they spent together in the past. They thank each other, but this does not shake their resolve. Aono gains the upper hand against Matsuri, despite her losing of power. However, when she goes to kill Matsuri with her own sword, Yorito takes the blow instead. Matsuri comforts a despairing Aono as Yorito’s remains fly into the sky, and slowly stabs her with the sword. As the sun rises, Matsuri remembers when Aono and Yorito promised that she would see the real sky one day.

One year later, Mayuko and Takeshi meet as usual. Mana meets her friends in the family restaurant, where Sae is still depressed about losing sight of Takeshi. After meeting her in the bookstore, Koyori does origami with Aono outside. Before leaving, Aono reintroduces herself to Koyori. Later, while Mana returns to the school to get a notebook she forgot, she goes to the rooftop to observe the sky. She is surprised to find that someone is already there, a transfer student. Mana tells Aono how much she likes the sky, without knowing why. Mana screams out her love for the sky, and runs out hand in hand with Aono afterwards. Later, Mana and Koyori wake up early to meet Aono in the same spot Yorito met Matsuri. Mana prepares to take a picture of the sunrise, while Koyori has trouble with the vending machine. Aono helps her in the same way Matsuri would, and they look up at the benches where two cans of tomato juice are sitting.

Impression:

Ok this was a perfect ending in my opinion. The one year skip really helped to tie things together, and I loved the personality changes. Mana takes up Yorito’s love of the sky and old habits to make up for her loss, and Koyori does the same for Aono. Probably in the same way, Aono has become cheerful like Matsuri was. Aono lives happily without her brother the way she should have, with the friends that loved her before they lost their memories. Yorito did show Matsuri the true sky, even if it cost them both their lives. I was not expecting that, but I’m glad it happened that way. The ending was strong. If the ending had ended with both of them living, it would have been ridiculous. I mean, Yorito was a paper doll. Now all that’s left is the two dvd episodes. Next up is my overall impression of the series.

Sola is a show that I have a lot of mixed feelings about. It started out very strong, but did a quick turn around with episode 3, giving us quite a few mediocre episodes. To me, the show is far too inconsistent. It has many strong points, but the negative points seem to cancel those out quick. The story is predictable, and hardly memorable. Although the animation is good, I was never too crazy about the art style. It was ridiculously easy to point out the huge chins in episode 12 (My eyes!!!). The use of the sky was an artistic point that drew me in early in the show, but it quickly got very old. Not only that, but they pushed this concept to the side in favor of the silly yaka story.

Honestly, I may be comparing Sola to Air and Kanon too much, but I don’t see why I shouldn’t. From looking at the show, it’s pretty easy to see that it draws influences from both. Air and Kanon are masterpieces. Sola is not. Sola has a ridiculous amount of fans, and I don’t know why. Sure, it’s a pretty good watch, but when people are calling it “the best anime of the season” and giving episodes 10 out of 10 ratings, I get confused. The series is average at best, and I’ll have to call it overrated. I guess I could say I’m glad I watched Sola, but it would never make my favorites list. I will probably watch the two dvd episodes for the sake of watching them, but I don’t suspect that they will be anything amazing.

Before everyone flames me, I don’t hate Sola. I managed to blog all of it after all. I would have dropped it a long time ago if I couldn’t stand it. Oh, and if you want to hear Mamiko Noto in a non-stereotypical role, watch Keroro Gunsou or something. Actually, her role in Narue no Sekai is a lot like her role in Sola (No that doesn’t mean I’m recommending it lol).

Also see Owen’s review for similar opinions on this series. He also does a much better job than me at describing its flaws, and will be writing a follow up.

Short Summary:

Matsuri challanges Aono to one more fight over Yorito. During the fight, we are shown flashbacks of their pasts. Yorito and Aono had come to live with Matsuri, so that she was no longer alone. Aono blamed herself for Yorito’s death, and killed herself. Matsuri brought her back to life with her yaka powers, even though she could not imagine a world without Yorito. Eventually, Aono used her powers to recreate Yorito from paper. In the present time, Aono uses a paper fake of herself to distract Matsuri, while she goes to Yorito. However, he sides with Matsuri as well. After the projector in the abandoned movie theater starts shooting a film of the sky, Matsuri stabs herself. Takeshi had explained to her that the sword has the power to return the yaka back into humans. Matsuri goes for Aono next, while Yorito holds his sister down.

Impression:

Where does all Aono’s paper come from? Does she like hide it in her clothes or something? Well, the fight was pretty cool, even though it had me thinking of R.O.D. the whole time. With the conclusion of this episode, it looks like everyone will be returned to normal. The only thing we have to wonder about is how Yorito will finally show Matsuri the blue sky, since he has been revealed to be a yaka creation. I really don’t think they will kill anyone off, considering how long they have been emphasizing Yorito’s want to show Matsuri the real sky. One more episode before we can say for sure…

This post is super late because I had to work all day and I was tired and..and…I just want to quit life and blog anime all day! *shiku* *shiku* ….Ok, Maybe not. Despite being close to the end, Sola is being moved to my “short summary series” as well. Check your usual sources for the full summary.

Yorito starts to take down the sky on his ceiling, remembering when he confirmed his choice to Matsuri. Mana wakes up and opens the blinds, seeing that no one has contacted her. While Aono prepares breakfast, she remembers when Yorito returned to her during the night. After asking where he went, Yorito told her that he went to Matsuri and heard about everything that Aono had hid from him. He then let out his hand to help her up with a smile on his face. In the present time, Yorito walks down and offers to help Aono prepare breakfast. Yorito tells Aono that his wish is to make her happy, so she replies by telling him that she will believe in his words. Mayuko explains to Matsuri that she and Takeshi will be leaving soon, because things cannot stay the way they are.

At school, Mana remembers the last time she saw Yorito. Yorito exclaimed that he had to find out what his sister was, and about himself. Meanwhile, Aono goes into Yorito’s room to see that the ceiling is now completely blank. Mana walks out onto the school ceiling to find Yorito looking at the sky as usual. She mentions that the teacher was mad, but Yorito says that it is a special day. After Yorito tells her about the sky, Mana thanks him for the day before, because it made Koyori really happy to see Aono. Yorito goes on about how the food was good, but when Mana tries to ask him something serious, he tells her that he cannot tell her anything. Mana tries to convince him by saying that she can accept a lot of things, and brings up the time Matsuri had appeared. Yorito assures her that he is fine, but still does not want her to know anything. Mana tells him to think about her feelings, before running off.

Aono hears something at the house and thinks it is Yorito, but finds that it is Koyori. Elsewhere, Sae excitedly tells Mana and the rest of their friends about her encounter with Takeshi. One of their friends starts taking the order herself, but finds that Mana is spaced out when she asks for hers. After guessing what is wrong, Mana replies by telling them not to bring up Yorito. They wonder what she is talking about, so Mana tells them not to pretend not to know and runs off. Koyori remembers that Aono had told her not to come back to their house again, before stopping at a bookstore. At the warehouse, Mayuko tells Matsuri that they will be leaving that night, while they eat seafood. Mana wonders why Yorito had told her such things, while observing the sky on a bridge. One of her friends surprises her by putting her hand on her shoulder, but then apologizes for what happened. Mana asks her what she thinks of Yorito, but is shocked when she doesn’t know who he is. When Mana tries to show her a picture of him, she finds that he has disappeared from the one in her phone.

Takeshi wonders if Matsuri is worried about Yorito, before noticing that it is almost time to leave. Koyori arrives at Aono’s house again, asking for a favor. Before Aono can tell her otherwise, Koyori insists on Aono teaching her more origami. With this, Aono lets Koyori in with a smile on her face. Mana runs to the school while thinking about what Yorito was telling her. When she finally makes it to the school rooftop, she finds that Yorito is still there looking at the sky. While Koyori makes origami, Aono apologizes to her. Koyori replies that it can’t be helped, so Aono thanks her for understanding. Koyori tells her not to worry, because she is a good girl. Mana lays on the school rooftop with Yorito, as he explains the sky to her. Mana gets up, asking if he is himself. She then lets out her hand, insisting that he grab onto it. Mana tries to assure herself that he is there, noticing that he can hold onto her hand and even has a shadow. She then demands an answer from him. Back at the Morimiya household, Koyori tries to get Aono to teach her more. Aono tries to tell her that it is over, but Koyori insists that they are friends. Koyori exclaims that she does not want to be separated from her, and tells her that there is no way that she can be a good girl.

Mana tries to tell Yorito that they will continue as they always have, and that she will never forget Yorito and his wishes. Mana starts crying, as she loses his hand. Aono covers Koyori with a blanket, after she has fallen asleep. Takeshi wakes Mayuko up, as Matsuri talks about the disappearance of illusions. Back on the rooftop, Mana wonders where she is and why she is crying. She notices that the tears will not stop coming out. At the warehouse, Takeshi and Mayuko give their farewells to Matsuri. Mayuko reminds her not to do something that she will regret. As they walk, Mayuko reaches up to hold hands with Takeshi. After watching them leave, Matsuri turns to face Yorito behind her. Later, Aono hears a noise while putting her dolls in a box. She looks out to find Matsuri with the sword.

Impression:

Wow. This episode was actually pretty impressive. I loved the soundtrack at the end of the episode. It looks like the climax is coming quick with only two episodes left. I kind of expected that everyone would start forgetting about Yorito, but I still felt really sad for Mana. I could say the same thing about Koyori. I’m pretty interested in seeing where everyone will end up. The ending might save this show for me, so I hope they can keep this up until then.

Yorito finally remembers what he did to Matsuri when he walks into the abandoned building with Mana. Mana stops him before he can leave to search for her, claiming to have something important to tell him. Takeshi is looking for things in the supermarket, but is distressed when he cannot find any tomato juice. Sae, who is working at the register, is very happy to see him and reminds him of who she is. Mayuko talks with Matsuri in a warehouse about what she is going to do about her situation with Yorito. After hearing what she has to say in the old building, Yorito cannot believe Mana, but she insists on having him believe her. While thinking about this at school, Mana overhears Sae mentioning Takeshi’s search for tomato juice.

Koyori is helping Aono cook at her house. Aono wonders why she came over against Mana’s wishes, so Koyori replies that she did because Aono would be alone if she didn’t. After Yorito arrives at the house, they all eat together. Koyori expresses that it is better when Aono and Yorito eat together. At school, the teacher calls on Mana to find that she isn’t there. Mana runs to places like vending machines that sell tomato juice, searching for clues. After seeing Koyori off, Aono returns to the kitchen to help Yorito with the dishes. Aono asks Yorito why he came home, so he tries to give a normal answer. Aono knows that he wouldn’t come home for something so simple, so he asks Aono what she is hiding in return.

Mana catches a glimpse of Takeshi boarding a tram, and gives chase. Aono tries to tell Yorito that it would be better if he didn’t remember Matsuri, and everything she is doing is just to make him happy. Yorito tells her that he wants to know the truth, and opens the blinds to stop Aono from approaching him. What Mana told him in the old building was that Aono is a Yaka. Mana loses her ability to continue running after the tram, but sees that Takeshi gets off at the stop just ahead. She screams out to him, finally getting his attention. Takeshi gives Mana something to drink, as she catches her breath. She asks him about Matsuri, but Takeshi cannot give her a direct answer. Aono sits alone in the kitchen, while the sun starts to set outside.

While Mana sits in bed looking through pictures in her phone, she remembers when she met Aono and Yorito in the hospital. Koyori comes into her room, confessing that she went to Aono’s house earlier. She starts to apologize, but Mana just suggests that they sleep together once in awhile. Yorito meets Matsuri in the abandoned building, and tells her that he remembered what happened. Yorito realizes that Matsuri and Aono had known each other for a long time, but upon asking about himself, Matsuri tells him that he died alone. Before he can continue asking more, she stabs him with the sword she is holding. While he falls down in pain, Matsuri tells him to bear with it a bit longer, because she would show him the truth. Yorito looks at his arm to see that it is changing to paper, which Matsuri explains is his true form. Yorito has a vision of Aono searching for his body in the ruins of their past house. Aono was convinced that it was her fault, but then used her powers to create another Yorito.

Mayuko asks Takeshi if things have really turned out for the best. Takeshi tells her that it can’t be changed, then invites her into his blanket. While sitting on the bench together where they first met, Yorito asks Matsuri what his other self was like. Matsuri tells him that she cannot remember because it is something of the past, and she only knows the current him. Yorito wonders what he is, because he is not even human. Matsuri explains that he is just himself, and kisses him before he can say otherwise. She tells him that he can do many things for himself, and that’s what she likes about him. She suggests that he disappear with her. The next day, Mana and Koyori ring the doorbell at Yorito’s house. They almost leave by themselves, but Yorito finally opens the door with a smile on his face. Matsuri meets Takeshi and Mayuko at the warehouse. Matsuri confirms to Takeshi that she is ok with what she is going to do, and asks him to teach her how to use the sword.

Impression:

Well, I didn’t see that coming. I guess this explains why Aono could control Yorito in so many ways. His not being human is also an easy way to have himself and Matsuri together. Matsuri’s suggestion that she and he disappear almost made me believe that they would die rather than be cured, but I somehow doubt it. There are still a few episodes left to have them solve the problem, when one would be enough if they were to just disappear. Also, I’m probably a bit slow in thinking of this, but why is Takeshi homeless? His clothes don’t exactly look cheap. Oh well…

Aono continues to attack Matsuri, as she dodges the paper and runs. Matsuri eventually finds herself cornered, but uses her abilities to create a shield to block the attacks. After running into a tram for cover, she looks up to see that Aono has used her abilities to cause the support beams to break above her. Yorito and Mana hear the crash from a distance, so Yorito runs in the direction of the noise.

Aono prepares to finish Matsuri off, but stops when she sees that she is smiling. Matsuri tells Aono that it is ok, before losing her strength and fainting. Aono then has a flashback of Matsuri holding her hand out to her while she was crying in the cave. Aono throws the paper she has in her hand to finish off Matsuri, but misses after seeing a vision of her younger self screaming not to do it. Aono falls to her knees, asking why as the rain starts to fall. Mayuko then walks in behind Aono, asking who she is.

Takeshi looks into the family returaunt looking for Mayuko, when Sae comes out with an umbrella to cover him from the rain. He says he is fine, and starts to leave, but stops when Sae mentions that she saw Mayuko earlier with Matsuri. Matsuri wakes up in a tram, wondering why she is alive. Mayuko asks if she wanted to die, so Matsuri replies that it would be better if she wasn’t around. Mayuko wonders if that is really so, because two people have been looking for her for quite awhile. Outside, Yorito and Mana cannot find Matsuri. Yorito starts screaming from the pain in his head, while Mana sees that the paper on the ground is the same as Aono’s origami.

Mana gets off the phone with Aono, while Yorito is in bed at her house. Koyori who had been listening, tries to suggest that they call Aono over to eat. However, after seeing that Mana is obviously against it, she give up and walks away. Mayuko brings a bag of food to Matsuri who has been waiting on a bench. Matsuri says she cannot eat all of it, because she has so many things on her mind. The tram arrives and Mayuko gets on, but Matsuri runs back to get the bag of food that she had forgotten. The doors shut, and Mayuko looks out the window to see Takeshi facing Matsuri. After the tram leaves, Takeshi draws his sword and charges toward Matsuri.

Mana answers the door to find Aono waiting outside. She says that Yorito has not returned yet, and calls Matsuri a liar when she tells her that he isn’t at their house. Mana tells Aono that she is even more so for hiding things from Yorito, and shuts Aono out. Mayuko tries to backtrack to Matsuri, as Takeshi continues to go after her. He has a flashback of when he and Mayuko were younger. Mayuko wanted to call him Takeshi, but he thought that Tsujidou sounded cooler. Mayuko finally agrees, but wants him to call her Mayuko in return. However, this just makes him blush as he runs ahead. Mayuko thanks him for bringing her home, and he remembers that her birthday would be soon. Takeshi suggests that he would buy anything she asks for, even though she knows he doesn’t have a lot of money. Takeshi is surprised when she asks for a rabbit doll, because she already has one. However, she gives him a rabbit punch, saying that it would be lonely.

When the two were a bit older, an incident happened in Mayuko’s household where all of her family was killed. Takeshi screamed at the sight of Mayuko lying in blood. Later, he layed the rabit doll he had bought her at the enterance, but is shocked to see Mayuko walk out from behind the trees. He is glad that she is alive, but Mayuko tells him that he is wrong. She tries to tell him that she is a yaka, and finally convinces him by showing him what happens to her skin in the sunlight. Takeshi pushed her back into the shade, promising to bring her back to her previous world.

In the present, Takeshi slashes at Matsuri, but only hits her raincoat. Maturi uses her powers to cause the ground to break, but Takeshi catches back up to her. She tries to stop his sword with her hands, but he confirms that her yaka powers will not work on it. After kicking him, Matsuri attempts to get to higher ground, but Takeshi just continues to attack with his light arrows. After falling to the ground, Takeshi prepares to finish Matsuri off because of his promise with Mayuko. However, Mayuko appears screaming to stop him. He wonders why, because if he killed Matsuri she would be able to return to normal. Mayuko tells him that she would not want to return to normal if it costed another life.

Mayuko tells him that it is fine, because that was not her real wish. We see flashbacks of Mayuko and Takeshi spending time together when they were younger. We then see the two after she had been changed into a yaka, and Takeshi protected her from the snow and sunlight. Takeshi had declared that he would be by her side until he could return her to normal. A tear drops next to Matsuri, and she looks up to see Mayuko embracing Takeshi. Mayuko’s real wish was to have Takeshi at her side. It had not changed from the past. Elsewhere, Yorito looks out of the window to see the night sky.

Impression:

USAGI PUNCH!!! That was awesome both times, and it’s obviously going to be the new catch phrase. I think I have new respect for Mayuko just from that. Well anyways, It’s surprising how close to the end this show is. There’s only a couple of episodes left. Mayuko and Takeshi’s story is pretty much over now, and it was resolved quite well. It was pretty obvious that Mayuko would stop Takeshi from killing Matsuri though. Jeez, she got saved from death twice in this episode. Now all that’s left is for Aono to accept Matsuri, and for Yorito to find a way to cure the yaka of their curse. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a few great episodes until the conclusion of this series.

Yorito wakes up from his last vision of Matsuri, as if from a dream. After class is over, Mana asks if he is feeling alright because he is so spaced out. He starts to tell her the things that happened the previous night with Aona, but once he remembers the convinience store, he collapses.

Mana takes him home, greeted at the door by Aona. After putting him on the couch, Aona thanks her. Mana leaves the room to get a towel, so Aona looks at Yorito. He starts to ask her about things that happened last night, and if they met someone. Aona tries to pretend not to know what he is talking about, but Yorito expresses that he feels like he has forgotten something important. Mana returns to find Aona carrying Yorito to his room. She suggests that she will help, but Aona tells her to go home. After putting Yorito in bed, he suggests that next time they go out when they can see the sky. He then bids her good night. After shutting the door, Aona repeats those words, “Good Night”.

While Sae boards a tram on the way home, she catches a glimpse of Matsuri and Mayuko walking into an alley. Matsuri is still in pain from her injury, so Mayuko takes her to one of the abandoned trams. Matsuri suggests that Mayuko can leave, but she refuses. We then see that Matsuri had run into Mayuko in an alley, and saved her by pulling her out of the sunlight. Mayuko realizes that Matsuri is a Yaka, so she wonders why she doesn’t heal the wound. Matsuri replies that it is because she broke a promise.

Koyori and Mana visit the Morimiya house again, but don’t get a response at the door. They start to leave, but Aona finally opens up and tells them that Yorito is sleeping with a cold. Mana wonders if she can help with anything, but Aona declines. Once Aona returns to Yorito’s room, he remembers Matsuri. Aona tells him to hurry and forget about her, or he will continue to suffer. Once she leaves his room, she starts to cry outside his door.

At school, one of Mana’s friends wonders why Yorito isn’t there, so Mana tells her that he has a cold. Sae shows up, exclaiming that she has big news. She shows Mana a picture of Matsuri and Mayuko that she had taken with her phone. With this, Mana asks Sae to send that picture to her as well, and leaves school.

Back at the Morimiya house, Mana asks Aona to let her see Yorito because it is an emergency, but Aona refuses. Mana tells her that Matsuri is close. With this, Aona screams for Mana to leave. Aona is taken back after Mana tells her that Matsuri is an important person to Yorito. She pushes Mana away, but burns herself in the sun because of it. Mana continues to knock on the door, after Aona closes it behind her.

Takeshi continues to look for Mayuko, finding the abandoned building Matsuri had her stay in. Meanwhile, Yorito screams while remembering what he had done to Matsuri. Aona holds him, and tries to calm him down. Yorito continues to scream while seeing a vision of Matsuri turn into stone and crack. He rips open the curtains in the process, causing Aona to yell in pain. She avoids the light, and tells Yorito that Matsuri is no longer there. Aona holds Yorito, telling him that she is sorry for causing him pain. She remembers when she and Yorito were younger, and tells him that she is fine just being with him. After putting Yorito back in bed, Aona tells him that she has to go. She says that when she is finished, they would live together quietly again.

Mana sneaks into their house at night, and is surprised to see the wreck that Yorito’s room has become. She realizes that Yorito isn’t just sick with a cold, as he continues to repeat to himself that Matsuri is no longer there. Mana slaps him to his senses, showing him the picture that Sae had sent her. With this, Yorito and Mana hurry there on bicycle. Yorito knows where it is because of a landmark in the picture. Outside the abandoned trams, Matsuri starts to dodge some flying paper. Aona shows herself on top of a roof, telling Matsuri that she no longer exists.

Impression:

Wow, this episode was amazing. The last scene was so epic with Aona appearing in front of the moon. It also leaves us with quite a cliffhanger. It was interesting that Yorito had started to lose his memory. It makes me wonder how much power Aona has as a Yaka. Her obsession with Yorito is a bit extreme. I wonder if Matsuri has done anything else to her besides take Yorito away. It’s pretty much confirmed that Aona and Mayuko are Yaka now, and we also catch a glimpse of Aona and Yorito’s house falling apart when they were younger. I definitely can’t wait for the next episode. It looks like it will be quite climactic. By the way, I still think Sae’s voice is extremely annoying.

Yorito is outside during daybreak, surprised to find that it is morning already. Aona eats breakfast alone while looking at a note on the table, calling Yorito a liar. Takeshi cannot find Mayuko in the church, and thinks it has to do with her interest in the ‘calamity of night’. He hears people coming, so he hides himself. Yorito and Mana enter, looking for clues about Matsuri. Yorito believes she might have been there because there is evidence of people living there, but Mana thinks that she might have went far out of town to hide herself from Yorito. At school, Sae and Mana’s other friends wonder what she and Yorito were doing together in the morning. Yorito is on the roof as usual, wondering what Matsuri meant by what she said on the night she left.

Koyori brings in groceries for Aona at the Morimiya house. While eating the popsicle Aona has rewarded her with, Koyori mentions that it would be nice if Matsuri came back soon. Aona asks if Koyori thinks Matsuri will really come back. Koyori thinks that she will, because of Yorito’s skies. With this, Aona remembers a time when Yorito told her that he wanted to show Matsuri the sky.

Yorito searches different places for Matsuri throughout the afternoon. When he gets home, he is surprised to find Aona and Koyori reorganizing the furniture. He notices that the pictures of the sky have been taken down, so he asks Aona why. She tells him that it was for no particular reason, making him very angry. Before he leaves the room, Koyori stops him. She tells him that Aona took them down because she didn’t want him to have any painful memories. Yorito doesn’t understand her logic, because Matsuri had not said goodbye and might come back. After Yorito leaves, Aona comforts a crying Koyori, thanking her for speaking for her sake.

Outside, Yorito wonders to himself what he is doing, when Aona shows up to return one of his pictures. He apologizes to her for becoming angry, but Aona tells him that she was wrong for doing such a thing. Yorito suggests that they take a walk, and Aona agrees to. While they enjoy themselves in the town, Yorito tells Aona the reason he continued to search for Matsuri, despite realizing that she probably wouldn’t come back. The abandoned church catches Yorito’s attention again, so they enter. Yorito observes the sky through the destroyed roof, while Aona walks behind.

The next morning, Aona cooks breakfast, so Mana and Koyori come over to eat. Mana and Yorito notice that it is time to head to school, but before they leave, Aona reminds Yorito of their promise. Aona walks upstairs to choose a set of clothes to wear. She also starts to change her hair, when Koyori walks in on her. She informs her that she is going to school soon as well, but Aona gives her a chop to the head out of embarrassment.

At school, Sae rambles about her usual obsession with ‘beardy’ to Mana. Takeshi has been searching for Mayuko. After classes are over, Yorito and Mana walk outside to find Aona waiting with an umbrella for Yorito. They leave Mana, as she wonders to herself how Aona could consider the rainy day as good weather. Yorito and Aona make their way to the doll shop he usually visits. Yorito makes a lot of suggestions, but they eventually leave empty handed. Aona tells him that she only wanted to see the place where Yorito went every day to buy them.

Aona tells Yorito that she wants to see the town from above, so they ride the rails up to higher ground. As they observe the city, Aona mentions how wonderful the world is, because of its many colors. The wind blows the umbrella out of Aona’s hands, causing Yorito to have another flashback of Matsuri. Aona lets the rain hit her face, but Yorito shelters her with his own umbrella, warning her not to catch a cold.

Yorito suggests that they go home because she is so wet, but Aona mentions that they promised to visit the restaurant where Mana works. Yorito gives in, but tells Aona to wait as he enters a convenience store to look for a towel first. While he searches for one, a tomato juice can rolls to his feet. He looks up in shock to find Matsuri standing in front of him. Yorito starts to chase her as she runs, but Aona tries to stop him by grabbing on to his hand and telling him not to go. Yorito apologizes to Aona, and continues to chase Matsuri outside. Yorito catches up to Matsuri, but loses her again when she uses her powers to fly away. Elsewhere, Aona is alone, asking herself why this is happening. She remembers that Matsuri had promised not to show herself to the both of them anymore.

Yorito finally finds Matsuri in an abandoned building. Mayuko is sleeping inside, but Matsuri hides her before Yorito can see her. Yorito tells Matsuri to come home, but Matsuri tries to explain that it isn’t possible. However, Yorito embraces her before she can give him a reason. Yorito tells her that he still hasn’t fulfilled his promise. Outside, Aona loses herself, and Matsuri becomes shocked to find that Yorito has stabbed her with a piece of broken glass.

Impression:

This was a pretty awesome episode. I was at the edge of my seat as soon I saw Matsuri at the convenience store. The story becomes more mysterious as well, with Matsuri hiding Mayuko in the abandoned house. Aona reveals more of her power as well. It looks like she can control various things, or at least she can control Yorito. I am interested to see how everyone’s pasts are revealed. Maybe Yorito has lost his memory at some point? Either way, this episode leaves us with a pretty big cliffhanger. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the next episode.

We see another flashback of the cloaked man walking towards a cave. If turns out that it is Yorito. He is greeted by Aona in the cave, and Matsuri appears shortly after. Yorito exclaims that he may have found a way to show Matsuri the sky. Matsuri wakes up from this dream, to find herself in Yorito’s bed. She puts her hand on a sleeping Yorito’s head to find that it is warm.

While having breakfast together, Mana is worried about the possibility of Takeshi coming to attack again. Matsuri assures her it is ok, and is more concerned about Mana realizing that she is not human. Mana tells her that she has already heard about it, and suspected it because Yorito wouldn’t just bring some random girl into his house. Realizing that Yorito isn’t there, Matsuri hurries to wake him up, because he will be late for school.

Takeshi and Mayuko are at the hospital getting a check up on his damaged arm. Takeshi assures Mayuko that he is fine, but Mayuko wants to know what really happened. While chasing after him, she bumps into Koyori who is on the way to see Aona. When she reachers her room, Koyori informs Aona that Yorito will be bringing Matsuri the next day. Aona is concerned, because it will be on a rainy day.

At school, Mana is worried about Yorito taking pictures as usual. Yorito remembers the promise he had with Matsuri the night before, where she would not leave the house and he would bring her pictures of the sky. Concerning Aona’s visit, Mana makes a suggestion for presenting Matsuri to her.

While Yorito is setting up the pictures to show to Matsuri, he mentions that Mana had suggested that Matsuri pretend to be his girlfriend. He is surprised to hear Matsuri agree. After Yorito shows Matsuri that the picture shows that there will be rain, she suggests that she practices to be his girlfriend. Yorito is a bit taken back, but goes to grab a futon.

At the hospital, Aona bleeds from her finger, but when the blood hits a piece of origami below, it disappears. Back at Yorito’s house, he explains to Matsuri the satisfying feeling laying on the futon gives off. After seeing how it is done, Matsuri does the same and ends up falling fast asleep. Yorito puts his hand on Matsuri’s head, and thinks that it would be impossible for her to be his girlfriend. However, he finds that Matsuri is awake and tries to pull away, but Matsuri tells him not to. She finds that his hand is warm and feels good. She asks him if there is someone he likes, so he quickly declines with an expression that he does. Matsuri suggests that they kiss, but when he puts his hand on her shoulder she begins to laugh. She mentions that she is looking forward to meeting Yorito’s sister, but is shocked when she finds out that his sister’s name is Aona.

The next day it is rainy while they all visit Aona’s room. However, they find that Aona is asleep, so they decide to leave. Matsuri who is a bit shocked, hesitates a bit before leaving the room with the rest of them. After the door closes, we see that Aona was only pretending to be asleep. While waiting for a tram, Matsuri notices Aona under an umbrella across the street. When the tram arrives, everyone gets on, but Matsuri suggests that she will walk home. After the tram leaves, Matsuri crosses the street to find Aona’s origami frog hopping.

At the abandoned church, Takeshi and Mayuko are having trouble trying to stop the leaking from the rain. While Mayuko runs off to get more buckets, Takeshi finds that it is hard to move his injured arm. In an empty tram, Matsuri meets Aona. Matsuri finds that Aona had already known it was her, because she heard Matsuri’s name from Koyori. Aona tells Matsuri that her powers have started to return, and we see a flashback of Aona slitting her own throat while Matsuri watches. When Matsuri wonders about Yorito, Aona confirms that it is her younger brother, despite Matsuri’s disbelief.

At Yorito’s house, they are arguing about the food, when Matsuri arrives. However, everyone is surprised when Aona followers her in. Matsuri tells them that she met her on the way home, while they begin to eat. Yorito tells Aona not to push herself, and he finds that he will have to explain this to the doctor the next day. When Aona mentions that she wanted to see who was living with Yorito, Matsuri brings up what happened the previous day. Everyone is shocked and when they are done, Koyori and Mana leave thinking that Yorito is a pervert. While they wash the dishes, Matsuri tells Aona that she has one favor to ask.

Later that night, Yorito and Matsuri sneak into the school grounds. When they reach the classroom, Yorito explains how it is everyday, but doesn’t think that it is that interesting. Matsuri relates his description with what she has heard, but thinks that it is good enough that they are not alone while they are there. Yorito shows her the spot on the roof where he likes to take pictures, and brings up his promise to show her the sky. Tears start to come out of Matsuri’s eyes, but she mentions the quiet city to try to hide it. She tries to explain why she would not be able to stay with Yorito, while we see a flashback of Aona waking up in the cave and burning in the light. Matsuri gives Yorito a kiss, and then walks past him. When Yorito turns around, he finds that she has disappeared.

Impression:

I liked this episode a lot. We got to see a lot of the mysterious events related to Matsuri, and Aona finally revealed her major role. I’m sure their relationship will somehow lead to a way for Matsuri to live in the sunlight. Aona looked pretty cool in her regular clothes, instead of the hospital dress. Matsuri teasing Yorito was kind of cute too. It is kind of weird hearing Mamiko Noto play that type of role though, since she usually only does serious roles or ‘quiet girl’ type roles. I think she is pulling it off very well though. It looks like Sola will finally start to pick up now, so I am looking forward to future episodes.

A young boy observes a girl covered in blood inside a mansion. In the present time, we see Tsujidou, remembering that 17 years have passed since that happened. Yorito is at the convenience store, surprised at how much tomato juice Matsuri wants to buy. Tsujidou opens up a trash can to find a hiding Mayuko, waiting for food. As they sit outside on some steps, Matsuri wonders what the sky would look like from there. Yorito tells her that there are even better places to view the sky from, and promises to show them to her.

Tsujidou and Mayuko make their way to the abandoned church, where Mayuko complains about Tsujidou’s usual bad taste in onigiri. Mayuko knows that Tsujidou is going out again soon. She insists that he take her with him, but he declines as the rain starts to fall.

At Yorito’s house, Matsuri once again asks him if he likes the rain. He replies that he doesn’t really like it because it blocks the sky. Matsuri gets out an umbrella, and asks Yorito to go with her outside. Matsuri plays a prank on Yorito, making him lose his umbrella, so they share one as they talk. They stop at the vending machine where they first met, both mentioning that they thought of each other as weird when they first saw each other. Matsuri then suggests that she wants to ride on a boat. Despite Yorito’s attempt to handle things, Matsuri rows then boat out to the center of the lake. She gets Yorito to sit next to her, and raises the cloud covered umbrella above them. She suggests that it feels like they are under the sky, as they both imagine it. Yorito tells Matsuri that he will definitely keep his promise to show her the blue sky.

Back at the church, Tsujidou heads out, leaving Mayuko inside. In Aona’s hospital room, Koyori asks Aona to teach her how to make origami. Aona tells her that she will, but only if Koyori can fulfill her request.

Matsuri bids Yorito off, as he leaves the house to see his sister. Matsuri is looking through the clothes Mana has given her in the living room, when she hears some noises. She makes her way to the staircase to catch a falling Koyori just in time. They introduce themselves to each other, then Koyori tells her that she is gathering something in secret. At the hospital, Aona is looking at a doll, but quickly hides it when Yorito shows up at her door. He asks Aona about her condition, and she tells him again that it is normal.

After Koyori gets what she needs, she thanks Matsuri and leaves. Matsuri hears noises again as she makes her way to the living room, but this time she finds Tsujidou waiting for her. He tears the blinds off the curtains and begins attacking her again with his light arrows. Yorito’s return is delayed because he misses the tram on the way home. Matsuri continues running from Tsujidou inside the house by hiding upstairs. Tsujidou seemingly corners her and throws an arrow directly at her, but she disintegrates it with her hand before it hits her. With that, he attacks with even more, making her fall in pain in Yorito’s room. Tsujidou pulls out his sword to finish Matsuri off, but upon seeing Yorito’s sky painted ceiling, she gets up to stop him. She grabs onto his arm, using her ability to disable it, but then jumps outside of Yorito’s window.

Yorito arrives home in shock from the destroyed room he sees. Matsuri gets cornered with her back to a tree outside in the daylight. Tsujidou strikes at her with his sword, but Yorito takes the blow with his back. He won’t let him hurt Matsuri because of his promise. This triggers a memory Tsujidou had with Mayuko in the past. Mana’s voice can be heard coming towards them, so Tsujidou runs off as rain starts to fall. Matsuri asks Yorito again if he likes the the rain, but this time he replies that he might have grown to like it. When Mana reaches them, she is surprised to see their injuries.

Koyori has delivered the sewing kit that she got from Yorito’s house to Aona, but Aona is shocked when she mentions Matsuri, because Yorito had been keeping it a secret from her.

Impression:

Well this episode was definitely better, but I dunno if I can be forgiving after the last two episodes. As expected, it is more fun to watch Matsuri and Yorito, with everyone else in their minor scenes where they belong. I have a feeling that the plot is going to be pretty predictable at this point though. Makuyo probably doesn’t like fighting, which is why Tsujidou doesn’t want to involve her with what he does. She will probably convince him later on to stop pursuing Matsuri in the end, and everyone lives happily ever after. I mean, what are they gonna do? Not let Yorito fulfill his promise with Matsuri? Speaking of that, I actually laughed at how cheesy the last scene was. Yorito takes a blow for Matsuri, claiming that he will keep his promise while Matsuri tells him to stop. Then upon hearing a voice in the distance, Tsujidou just runs off. Yea…ok. The sky scenes they have are killing me too. I like the feeling the OP and EDs give off, and their use of the sky was one of the things that pulled me into the show at first, but they are seriously overdoing it, and it’s becoming laughable. Sola is no Air, and I really don’t know how I can take it’s cliched story seriously. On another note, Matsuri in different clothes was pretty win. ;P

Koyori’s friends visit her in the hospital, thinking that she is the same as always. Koyori tells them that she isn’t lonely because her sister visits her every day and there is someone she plays with at the hospital. They ask her if that person is a friend, or if they were mistaken. Koyori pauses for a moment, before deciding that she thinks that person is a friend. Of course, we see that person is Aona.

At Yorito’s house, Matsuri is observing one of the dolls he is going to give to Aona. He asks her opinion on it, and she replies that it is very cute. Yorito is surprised but agrees with her, as Mana arrives at their house. Mana greets Matsuri with a “Good Morning” but Matsuri replies with “Good Night”. Mana asks if she is going to sleep, and Yorito tells her that Matsuri is that kind of person. Mana presents Matsuri with some clothes, then heads off to school with Yorito.

After classes are over, Yorito asks Mana’s opinion on the doll she bought for Aona. She replies that it is no good, but is surprised when Yorito tells her that Matsuri liked it. They go to a dark doll shop, where Yorito starts to pick out another doll for Aona. Mana suggests that he stop brining dolls to Aona, since she doesn’t seem to like them. However, Yorito tells her that until Aona can return home, the dolls with keep her company in his place.

When the two enter Aona’s room, Mana is surprised that her sister isn’t there, so she excuses herself to go to her room. Koyori apologizes to Mana for having to come every day, but Mana thinks that Koyori should just act more like a little sister. Seeing that she is still feeling down, Mana asks Koyori if she still hasn’t told Aona about her leaving the hospital. Mana asks if she should help, but Koyori replies that she can do it herself. Mana agrees that it would be the best that way.

At the restaurant Mana works at, Sae wonders if she is thinking about Yorito again, but finds out that she is wrong. She pushes her off when customers arrive, and we see that it is Tsujidou and Mayuko again. Sae expresses to Mana her interest in Tsujidou, while Mana says she is more concerned about Mayuko. After being served, Tsujidou expresses that they would need to find ‘it’ soon.

Aona and Koyori are both awake at night in their separate hospital rooms. Koyori remembers the time she met Aona. She had made her way to the vending machine area at night when she found Aona sitting alone. She had asked her why she was there and introduced herself, but didn’t get a reply. Upon asking for Aona’s name, she told her that the vending machine had given her the wrong drink. Koyori offered to lend a hand, but Aona replied that there was no need. After sitting back down, Koyori noticed the origami on the bench and once again tried to start a conversation. However, she once again received no reply from Aona. She had given up and started to leave, but before doing so she asked if Aona could sleep on the hospital beds. The two found that they both could no sleep on the hospital beds because it was lonely.

The next day, Yorito and Mana once again visit Aona in her room. However, upon greeting her, Aona asks Mana where Yorito is. Mana is surprised when she finds that he isn’t there, and walks outside the room to find him sitting outside because he doesn’t have the courage to see his sister. After she drags him inside the room, Yorito asks Aona about her condition. Aona replies that she feels normal so she wants to go home. When Yorito asks about the treatment, she says that she doesn’t need it and would rather go home even if she collapsed. They receive a knock at the door, finding that it is Koyori. Aona asks Yorito where today’s doll is, but he had forgotten it. He apologizes and promises to bring two the next day, but Aona turns it into five. Mana wonders if Aona really appreciates the dolls, because Yorito has no taste. However, Koyori tells her not to say that, because even if he doesn’t have any sense, he brings a lot. Aona tells them that there are 36, and tomorrow there would be 41. They are surprised that there are so many and at how well she remembered. Mana asks if she has a favorite, Aona pulls the one she likes the best out of the basket, and Yorito notices that it is the first one that he had brought. Everyone smiles, then Koyori tries to tell Aona that she has something to talk to her about. However, upon looking down and seeing a discarded piece of origami, she loses her courage and runs out of the room.

After Mana chases after Koyori to her room, she finds her crying on her bed. Koyori embraces Mana and continues to cry, as night falls. As they head home, Yorito assures Mana that it would alright between the two, and she agrees because it is her little sister. This time it is Koyori sitting at the vending machine area when Aona finds her. Aona introduces herself to Koyori even though she already knows. Aona tells her that she had not mentioned her name the first time they met. Aona asks Koyori if she had gotten the wrong drink from the machine, but Koyori tells her that she had chosen it herself. She asks Aona if she would like to try the coffee, suggesting that she would be surprised. Hesitantly, Aona tries the coffee. Aona still doesn’t like the taste of it, but mentions that it is warm. Koyori tells Aona that when they first met, she thought Aona was an interesting person when she saw the origami. Aona says that it is normal, when Koyori admits that she wanted to learn origami from her back then. Aona offers to teach Koyori how to make origami because they are friends. Koyori is touched and finally comes up with the courage to tell Aona about her leaving.

At daylight we see a lot of origami on the bench, as well as a cup of coffee. Koyori enters Aona’s room in a school uniform with Yorito and Mana, promising that she will come again. Later, Yorito is bringing Koyori home from the restaurant that Mana works at. Tsujidou glares at Yorito through the window. Mayuko asks him what the matter is, but he replies that it is nothing.

Impression:

Yea this is a bit late cause I was a bit tied up. When I watched this last night I was really disappointed. It was almost as bad as the last episode, definitely not as good as the first two. It seemed like they were trying to make the show more slice of life show but it wasn’t working well. However, after blogging it this morning I thought it was decent. It was nice to see Aona and Koyori’s character development at least. Maybe I just couldn’t appreciate it last night because I watched it right after rewatching the Evangelion movie lol. Either way, this show isn’t making my favorites list for the new season’s shows. I think I’ll manage to keep blogging it though, as long as the next few episodes get better.

As far as site news goes, Subculture has reached over 1000 visits and over 7000 hits! I think this is a very good milestone, considering the site is only about two weeks old. I hope for more to come, and I thank everyone for visiting!
