Summary:

A doll is placed on top of the stone sword by a woman, which results in an array of light as she walks away. Kikyou senses this, as the butterfly triplets begin to take form elsewhere. Now finding themselves with life, they name themselves. They are Hibari, Tsubame, and Suzume. Elsewhere, Touka finds himself alive in the spot where the stone sword and doll was left. Explaining the need for the stone sword, Nene invites him home. Yumiko has been writing her story about the young girl Touka, and the appearance of Momoka. Haruhiko is called on by his father, and he expresses something that Haruhiko would be happy about. However, he cannot tell him at the moment. Arriving home, Haruhiko overhears the maids talking about his fiance, Mo Momoka. Opening the doors while looking for Yumiko, Haruhiko mistakes Touka for Momoka. Touka turns around quickly to stare at him, and he throws Haruhiko out of the house when he tries to touch him. Haruhiko finds out that Touka is Yumiko’s child, with a bit of shock. When Haruhiko asks about Momoka, Yumiko only guesses that he looked at her writing. In a blue pool, Sei inhabits Momoka as she is born.

Makoto introduces herself as a transfer student to Asuna while riding on the train. As they prepare to eat, a great wind sweeps through the train. When they regain their composure, they find Momoka eating all of their food. Shouko greets Makoto at the stop, but she finds Momoka’s introduction a bit strange. Makoto tells Shouko that she appeared when the firefly lights passed, which makes Momoka wish to see them. Momoka is not registered as a home stay student when she tries to sign up with Makoto, but her name appears the second time it is checked. When trying to contact her mother, Makoto finds that her phone is not working. Momoka wonders if it is ok for her to stay at the house when she meets Yumiko, but Yumiko only hugs her in reply as if expecting her. While sitting in her room that night, Momoka prepares to call her mother. However, she realizes that she does not know who that is as she prepares to dial. Makoto witnesses Momoka’s appearance while she is in the bathroom, and she instantly falls in love. At this point, she wishes to call her sempai. Momoka wonders about her existence in her room, as Touka appears in front of her window. Walking outside, she wonders if they have met before. Touka does not think this is possible. After introducing themselves to each other, Momoka expresses that she feels as if there is not enough time for her.

Impression:

Well, my prediction is was proven wrong once again. I suppose there will not be a “past” episode at all, and the flashbacks will be left open for us to interpret. Like the previous episode, this episode helped to fill in the many gaps of the series. It was the first time that Momoka and Touka set foot into the world of Kamitsumihara, and gave a bit of the background on some other characters. For example, Shouko confirms that Asuna is the butterfly triplet’s “doll”. I think by this point, we can easily say that Yumiko has full control of the town. Touka’s appearance is almost exactly like that of the smaller girl, Touka. Momoka’s “birth” was also brought by her writing.

Once again, I was absolutely entranced by the scenes in this episode. Momoka was beautiful, as was Touka’s appearance. I found it really funny that even Haruhiko was attracted to him, even though it was probably because of his reminiscent feelings for the young girl Touka. I also love how all the characters were actually naked in this episode after being “born”. In all the other anime they appear with clothes on, and I’m always like, “how is that possible?”. There is so much more to talk about, but I’ll leave it for the final impression.

Which is right here! Touka Gettan has definitely been a trip. While being ignored by many, and even offending a few, it was not a show that many were given a chance to enjoy during its airing. Despite this, it was one of my favorite series of the season. In fact, I would easily call it a series that I would never forget, and probably one of my top favorite anime of all time. Based off of Carnelian’s beautiful artwork, the anime truly mimicked this. So many episodes could easily be considered works of art, not to mention all of the revolutionary concepts that were brought to the table by the production team. To truly appreciate this series, people need to get past the “controversial” subjects, and appreciate it for what it is. Being based off a more serious h-game, this is obviously a mature anime.

This isn’t to say that the show did not have any flaws. With a bit of a lack of production value, some episodes did not keep up in terms of animation. I suspect that this will be fixed in the dvd versions, however, along with some other adjustments. The series also suffered from a long chain of “fillers” in the middle of the series. Although very enjoyable to watch, I feel that the series would have been much more memorable if it had only run for 13 episodes. This could have also helped the problem I addressed earlier. This is contradictory to what I said in the past, when I was excited about the episode extension, but this isn’t to say that the series still wasn’t amazing with the long episode number.

Another one of Touka Gettan’s major appeals was its mystery. Some of us very much enjoyed to guess what was happening with the plot after each episode. Others, however, could not stand the headache. To these people, well, your loss. By the end of the series, all questions are still not answered. I’m not sure if this is with the intent of wanting fans to play the game, or to further appeal to our curious imaginations, but I think it was very fitting for the series. In some ways, the series was wrapped up fine, going in a full circle by revealing the answers to the questions left by the introduction. There were many small things to notice, such as the firefly parallels. Hey, the series has replay value for sure. If you guys would like to formulate your theories with me, I would love to participate.

Now, I’ve said a lot of dumb things about this show in my impressions throughout my blogging. I probably had no idea what I was talking about in the beginning, but that’s just how this series is. There was no way to guess what was next, which was proven to me on many occasions. Granted I did guess some things right, most of my assumptions were quite off base. I would say that my impressions got better with my writing, but I’m not sure if that is the case. Speaking of that, this is my first 26 episode series to complete since the beginning of my blogging experience. My reviews of this series have been very inconsistent throughout, and for that I apologize. I tend to blog with the long term in mind, but I guess the present is typically seen as more important. Heck, maybe I’ll rewrite the posts someday when I rewatch the series. That’ll just depend on how busy I am. With all of that said, I am glad to have been able to watch and blog this beautiful love story, and here’s a big shout out to everyone else who actually enjoyed this wonderful series!

Summary:

Our news program is opened up by our hosts, Haruhiko and Shouko. After the introduction of Kamitsumihara, Makoto explains that she learned her art from Kikyou. This is the song that helped Momoka and the others disappear. Next, Touka’s first appearance is shown. Nene had welcomed him in the rain, as the stone sword used to ease the current suffering. Nene, who is now working as a different kind of maid, explains how Touka replaced Yumiko’s previous child. The girl was not capable of handling the stone sword and disappeared, so Touka took her place. Kaya explains that she had been in the form of a cat for a long time, and again expresses her love of Nene. After it is confirmed that Touka’s existence was brought through the stone sword, Momoka’s existence is questioned. Yuriko is asked, but she has long forgotten about Momoka. Makoto is interviewed next, and she notes Momoka’s unique personality.

Mo Moka is revealed to be Haruhiko’s fiance’s name. Asuna explains that when taken to Yuki-hime, she was given medicine so that she could return to normal. Although she is grateful for being saved, Kaya has taken a liking for her. Two guests, Masayuki and Kiyotsugu, enter the stage, and are questioned. Kiyotsugu explains that he had regained himself on the day that the stone shard fell out of his eye. Shouko then reveals a special display, Nene’s maid outfit. Masayuki becomes excited about this, but claims that he could never get close to Nene because of her fire power. The last person to be interviewed is Yumiko, who is now free of her previous inhabitant. She claims to be fine now, as she wishes to go outside and see the world. The last thing mentioned is Touka and Momoka’s meeting of each other.

Impression:

Touka Gettan does it again, taking another extremely unique approach to this episode. We were given a news report style recap of the series, which successfully filled in many of the gaps in the timeline. However, this episode seemed to break the rules a bit. This episode quite obviously takes place after the events of the first episode, as it looks back on all the events that have happened until then. It is also interesting that this show has completely proved me wrong in my predictions up to this point by doing this. Now I’m not even sure if the last episode will be the “past” episode that I expected it to be. On a technical and artistic side, I loved the black bars they inserted in front of the characters’ eyes. They really went all out to imitate a news program. This episode also had fanservice all over the place. I’m not usually a huge fan of Nene or Kaya, but come on. Who could have resisted the scenes they gave us in this episode? (not me.)

Many questions were answered in this episode, and I did my best to take note of all of them. Some were very needed, and others were things that we figured out throughout the series (well…some of us anyways). Touka had appeared in his usual form at night in front of Nene, and many of the people associated with the stone sword have dissapeared. Yuki-hime is revealed to be the woman that raised Nene, Kaya, and Aya. We have yet to find out what happened to Aya throughout this time. Haruhiko’s pen pal or fiance is named Mo Momoka, which is very ironic. Nene’s role is looked into a bit further, and Masayuki reveals some of his experience with her behind the scenes. It is also shown that Kiyotsugu has regained his body from Kiyoharu. Besides that, many of the characters are shown after the events of the first episode. Yumiko was interesting in particular, with her much calmer personality and different hair color. As usual, the only thing we get in the preview is the title “Hana” (or “flower”) and a picture of Touka with his long hair. We’ll just have to wait for the exciting conclusion of this show to find out what happens.

Summary:

Touka and Momoka both prepare for their first day at Touka high school. Haruhiko imagines himself going to school with Momoka, but Makoto accompanies her before he can say anything to her. On the way to school, Momoka asks Makoto what they will do at school. Makoto is surprised that she doesn’t know, but she promises to help her. Kiyotsugu prepares to make his speech at the opening ceremony, but his eye reacts to Touka and Makoto’s inner powers. He is sent to the nurse’s office, where Misuzu beings to talk about his father. Asuna approaches Touka outside, and follows him as he finds a place to look into the distance. When she catches his attention, she gets his name and asks if he wants to touch her. Touka grabs onto one of her boobs, before walking off. Asuna finds him to be a very interesting person.

Shouko imagines herself with Makoto as she drives her car, and is shocked when she sees her with Momoka. Further along the road, she is stopped by the butterfly triplets and one of their regular pranks. Both of their organizations gather, and a competition is proposed. Meanwhile, Yumiko expresses that she wants to go back to the high school days, because there was no work. Nene reminds her that there were things like tests, but she would still rather go back. Momoka and Makoto meet up with a teacher, who wonders how Momoka is doing. Niko knocks this teacher over, and quickly runs away afterwards. During the commotion, Momoka catches Niko’s piece of bread in her mouth. Shouko loses the game proposed by the triplets, which puts her in distress.

Many girls look upon Touka with interests at the school, and they become very angered when Momoka starts to drag him home. Haruhiko fantasizes about Momoka again at the house, and he approaches her room. Nene reminds him that it isn’t good to go into a girl’s room before he can enter, which makes him awkwardly leave. Momoka recalls a mystifying scene she saw of Touka outside of her window. Finding him to be very interesting, she wonders if she could see him like that again. Walking outside, Momoka witnesses Touka gazing into the sky, while the butterfly triplets praise him above. Finding everything about this scene beautiful, Momoka states that the world is wonderful.

Impression:

There were so many scenes that stood out in this episode. It really reminded me of what drew me into Touka Gettan in the first place. Although this show has never really had top notch animation, the animators really did well to make parts jump out this time around. The final scenes in particular gave off a mystical feel that really had me hooked. I absolutely loved Momoka’s dialog, and Touka’s “superman cape” was so epic. I’m actually studying a lot of composition at the moment, so that might have had something to do with my appreciation. There’s one more thing I want to say about the production side of this episode. Hearing Mamiko Noto playing her boyish role gave me some mixed feelings. For one, I loved hearing her impossible to miss voice. However, it also gave me some Girls Bravo nightmarish memories.

The humor of this episode also had me interested throughout. Haruhiko’s imagination and his interaction with Nene were very funny, and the return of Shouko’s competition with the butterfly triplets was actually a welcome addition to this episode. I laughed so hard at the triplets’ jokes, like “if you like shoujo manga situations so much, why don’t you go around saying ‘I’m late, I’m late!”. For the record, I’m going to have to say that the triplets’ bunny outfits were way better than Shouko’s gym outfit. I’ve never really understood the bloomers moe point. Things like Touka grabbing Asuna’s boob and Yumiko’s freaking out were also great. I mean, Yumiko was grabbing onto a freaking tree! Haha. I also loved how the random side character girls actually sounded like random side character girls, if you know what I mean.

As silly as this episode was, I would definitely not call it filler. This episode really set the mood of the story, which was not as familiar to us in the beginning. Watching this episode made me feel like watching the show in chronological order might actually be more powerful, but it’s just a bit early to say for sure. Momoka’s gobbling of the bread was exactly like her hot dog consumption in the first episode, and small things like that actually make a big impact if you notice them. The next episode title is “X”, and the preview for it was pretty funny: “Exxxxsssuuuu~”. I’m not sure exactly what to expect, but with only two episodes left, I am guessing that it will have to do with Touka’s creation. They had him nude in the preview, and topless at that. Does this prove that he is a boy? …Probably not. I suspect that we will finally learn about Niko in this episode as well. I’m going to say that she is a test subject or something. I dunno, I’m just throwing that out there.

Summary:

Touka watches Momoka as she eats a lot at breakfast as usual, and he finds it strange when she puts salt in her tea to drink. Yumiko tells Touka to take care of Momoka as he leaves for school, because she is an important girl. Touka describes her strange habits in reply, as Momoka comes tripping out of the house. He lets out a small smile, as the two head to school together. Inside the house, Kiyotsugu mentions Haruhiko’s need for a bride soon, which makes Haruhiko think of Momoka. This makes him very red, and he spits his tea out after accidentally putting salt into it. Haruhiko expresses that his father is always doing things without realizing his feelings outside, and he panics again at what he thinks his father is saying through the window above him. Makoto has been waiting for Momoka and Touka at school, and she tells them that she is a tour conductor for the day. Touka tries to leave, but Makoto warns him of things like people disappearing in the area. She tells them that at times, people of the past would pass by in an illusion. Momoka suggests to an unconvinced Touka that they should follow Makoto’s instructions in precaution, as Makoto gives them bunny badges for the tour. Momoka expresses her gratitude to Makoto, and they begin the tour shortly afterwards.

The three make their first stop at the library, and Momoka unthinkingly calls out to Haruhiko who is there. As they make their way deeper into the library, Makoto begins explaining Kimitsumihara’s history. There was a fire that killed everything in the area, and the town was built afterwards. There were also hints of an advanced civilization and gold. Momoka expresses to Touka that they live in an amazing place, but this makes her wonder how she came to exist there. The three go after the scroll they were looking at after it falls off the table, but they all look up to see Kikyou floating out of the area. Momoka asks who Kikyou is when Makoto mentions her name, so Makoto tells her that she is Kamitsumihara’s legendary counsel member. She explains further that she does not appear often, so it is lucky for anyone to see her. The three walk outside to see a large crowd idolizing Kikyou. Overhearing the crowd wondering what she must be thinking about, Touka and Momoka jokingly suggest that she is probably thinking about simple things such as what is for dinner. This pisses everyone off, and the butterfly triplets even arrive to tell them that they do not know anything. Kikyou seemingly causes the rain to pour, to everyone’s amazement. Haruhiko brings up the belief that foxes find wives in the summer rain, but this also makes him panic at the thought of Momoka again.

Momoka and the others come across Haruhiko practicing kendo, as he goes on about the things he needs to do before obtaining a wife. However, he find that everyone has already moved on before he can finish his thoughts. Momoka and the others see a foxes’ passing, and they attempt to be quiet to avoid being seen. One of the masked beings takes off its mask to reveal a skull, and Momoka is taken in by its spell. Kikyou sees this through a mirror, as Momoka is taken in wife’s garment to the center of skeletal beings. Touka worries that Momoka’s disappearance may become like the others, and Makoto suggests that Kikyou may have a way to save her. Touka runs into Kikyou, and she puts on a mask after creating a magical barrier in front of Makoto and Touka. The skeletal spritis begin undressing Momoka, but she tries to stop them from taking off Makoto’s bunny badge. Kikyou suddenly appears, and she unsheathes a sword to destroy the foul beings. Kikyou returns to Touka and Makoto with Momoka, and Momoka expresses her relief that she had not lost the badge Makoto made for her. The students gather in awe to watch this, and Asuna in the crowd gazes at Touka. Back at the Kamiazuma household, Kiyotsugu reveals to Haruhiko that he has been keeping in touch with a pen pal. They had discussed that their son and daughter would get married, so Haruhiko’s fiance is actually a foreign girl who introduces herself to him in person. Her family name is Kanjonashi, which is what caused Haruhiko to have a misunderstanding the whole time. Elsewhere, Touka adds salt to his tea to drink, and he finds it delicious.

Impression:

First of all, I’m sorry this is so late. I had trouble getting it, University, etc. I don’t know why, but this is the one show that really makes me feel regret for not being able to blog it. For some reason, I really think it’s the show that defines my blog. It’s the one show that I’ve always looked forward to blogging every week ever since I started, even though seemingly no one watches it. I mean, nobody watches this show! Well, although I do enjoy sharing opinions with everyone, I mainly blog for my own satisfaction. At least, that’s the excuse I like to give. It’s pretty crazy that’s it’s almost been half a year since I first started blogging this and other shows. Time goes by quick. Anyways, maybe I should finish ranting and actually talk about the episode.

I am definitely going to have to say that Kikyou was extremely awesome in this episode. She just doesn’t get enough screen time as one of my favorite characters, whereas my other favorite girl, Momoka, gets plenty. It’s really interesting how everyone in the school regards her so highly, and Touka and Momoka’s dialog was really funny in regards to that. I’m sure that Momoka’s interaction with her had a lot to do with the previous episode’s events. Ironically, my prediction from last week was somewhat right and wrong. Although Haruhiko believed that his marriage was going to be arranged with Momoka, it ended up being with a foreign girl. His visions of Momoka were great, and I love how the writers found random chances to add in the fanservice. There were also little hints of incompatibility, like Haruhiko spitting out the salted tea. On the other hand, Touka enjoyed it, and can see Momoka’s not so amazing traits.

I really liked the implementation of the common fox legend into this episode, and it had me being reminded of shows like Aria, xxxHolic, and other great shows. Some of Kamitsumihara’s history gave me some annoyances though, particularly in translation. I find that so many of the details actually have no relevance to the actual plot. Kikyou’s speeches have me gasping for air in particular, because by the time I finish writing down what she is saying, I find that it is actually useless babble. I also like to notice little things like Makoto’s tour. Did they not have class that day or something? Oh well. Other small things that i enjoyed in this episode included Asuna’s “su-te-ki” and Yumiko’s strange gestures while talking to Touka. The animation also seemed to take a small dip in parts of this episode, but I’m hoping that is in preparation for an amazing finale. With only three episodes left, I believe that the next episode will be the “first” introduction episode into modern Kamitsumihara, and the last two will be into the past. My prediction could be wrong as always, however.

Summary:

As Momoka is walking to school, Touka and Makoto notice that some of her hair is cut. They find this strange, but don’t think much about it. After they reach school, Momoka finds that her shoes are missing from her locker. Kikyou appears to give them to her, which shocks a lot of the students around her. As she walks through the school, it seems like the rest of the students are avoiding her. Momoka tries to get Touka’s attention on the top of the roof, but Asuna drags him off to have cake with the butterfly sisters. When Momoka returns to her shoe locker, she finds that her shoes have been filled with tacks. Meanwhile, Touka has been dragged into a game by the butterfly triplets and Asuna. Momoka wonders why so many bad things are happening to her, like finding a used condom in her lunch box. She does not have the energy to enjoy Nene’s food when she returns home, and she cannot speak to Makoto the next day. Momoka passes by a humiliating picture of herself, and she embarrassingly sheds it in front of all the boys looking at it.

Momoka becomes excited after receiving a gift from a girl, but opens it to find that it is full of bugs. Momoka continues to be treated horribly throughout the day, as people bump into her and she has balls thrown at her in the gym. In other places, Touka finally manages to win the game he is playing. His reward is Asuna, but this isn’t what he asked for. After fleeing from the sight of dead bloody chickens fall from her gym locker and having an insulting letter sent to her, Momoka reaches her limit outside. Her powers as Sei come to the surface, as many of the school’s windows shatter in front of her tormentors. Touka senses Momoka’s call to him, which makes him run from Asuna and go to her. Momoka starts crying at the sight of Touka, even though she is happy. Momoka mentions that her heart resembles that of a newborn child’s, and Touka wipes her tears which come from her heart’s feelings. The next day, Momoka describes her hunger in a silly way as usual to Touka as they head to school. While this is happening, the butterfly triplets watch from a small screen.

Impression:

This episode made me very angry, but that’s actually a good thing. What that means is that Touka Gettan has succeeded in making us feel very attached to the characters, something that a lot of anime are failing to do these days. The horrible ways Momoka was being treated reminded me a lot of Jigoku Shoujo, and it just had me screaming for revenge. Some of the things like the used condom being placed in her lunch box were just disgusting, and it really brought out a lot of hating emotions in me. Of course, it made me extremely happy when Touka came to the rescue. Love power! I finally get to talk about the reverse chronology again, as this episode really strengthened the events of episode 21. It really helps to show why Momoka became so attached to Touka in particular. The episode also went in a full circle, with the triplets watching the screen in the beginning and end of the episode. On a lighter note, Momoka going into her cartoonish form was really cute, and Touka imitating her “heehee” was hilarious. The next episode is titled “yome” or “bride”, so I suspect that it will have to do with Momoka’ arranged marriage with Haruhiko. If I’m not mistaken about that, we’ll probably get to learn exactly how that fell apart.

Summary:

Momoka wakes with a usual uneasiness, wondering who she is exactly. She takes a walk outside while remembering a promise Haruhiko made to her, and is surprised to find Touka there with her. She explains that Haruhiko wanted to show her pink flowers, and expresses her uneasiness to Touka. Momoka thinks to herself that Touka only listened carefully to her, while observing his beautiful eyes. As she approaches him, Touka notices that Momoka is getting cold. He offers her his uniform, which Momoka believes has Touka’s smell. Momoka gets closer to Touka in search of his good fragrance, but Touka suggests in return that it is actually Momoka’s smell. As he gets closer to her, he accidentally bumps her cheek. Momoka cannot stop thinking about this for the next few days, seeing Touka in a different way. Momoka seems to be out of it while Touka talks to her, and she loses her strength after he touches her forehead to check if she has a fever. Makoto expresses her liking of Momoka as usual while walking home with her, but Momoka witnesses Asuna walking hand in hand with Touka before Makoto can suggest what Momoka is feeling towards him.

Momoka arrives home wondering why she is feeling so uneasy, and she is called by Yumiko. While being embraced by her, Momoka notices that Yumiko gives her a very assuring feeling. Yumiko invites Momoka and Touka into a room, where she plans to treat them like princesses. Taking out many colored cloths, she puts them on Momoka and Touka. They are also given jewelry, and the two put lipstick on each other’s lips. Of course, Momoka feels a bit taken back by this. Afterwards, Momoka expresses her confused feelings to Nene, and Nene tells Momoka that she is very in love with the person she is thinking about. She also tells her that what is important is the present time. Touka asks for some of Momoka’s time as she is walking by, and he takes her to a field to watch a sunset. As colors fill the area, Momoka notices that she can see the many flowers that she wanted to see. Momoka expresses that what is important is her feeling of being there with Touka, and that she is certainly alive. Momoka sheds tears as she thanks Touka, and he wipes them from her eyes. She thinks to herself that this kind Touka will never change.

Impression:

I loved this episode so much. I usually speed through the opening sequence quickly to get to the episode each week, but I noticed something quite different this time. I noticed that my raw wasn’t messed up as text was still colored, then it hit me. Touka Gettan was doing another wonderfully artistic episode. The majority of the episode was void of color, and the color isolation really made things stand out beautifully. I actually had some experience with color isolation in a video editing class that I took recently, which made me love this episode even more artistically. Not only that, but this episode was the Momoka centric episode that I was looking forward to, and it had plenty of Momoka x Touka action. Everyone should know by now that I love Momoka x Touka action. I would give a specific scene that I liked, but the truth is that I loved all of them. I will mention that Momoka’s philosophical dialog reminded me of NGE for a second, and that this episode really made her look more mature than usual. I guess that’s what love can do to a girl! I also loved the soundtrack to this episode. I’m not sure if some of it was in the OST, but to be honest I only listened to the OST once or twice. Like I mentioned before, Touka Gettan has me excited all over again, so I am absolutely looking forward to next week’s episode.

Summary:

Yumiko is walking in a peach garden with the young purple haired girl, Touka. She picks a peach to show her, but finds that she has disappeared shortly afterwards. Yumiko wakes abruptly from this dream to find Touka next to her in bed. She describes the dream she had to him, as they embrace each other. The next morning, the butterfly triplets enjoy eating peaches. As they suggest that they would like more, one of the sisters comes up with an idea. Momoka finds Touka outside while he is looking through a cookbook, and suggests that they go to get peaches with everyone. The regular group approaches the butterfly triplets afterwards, and upon asking about the condition for picking peaches for themselves, they find that they must pick a large amount for the triplets as well. After exiting the elevator to their destination, the group finds themselves in a very large peach garden. Momoka starts munching on a peach right away, but when Touka tries to pick one, he finds that the peach breaks in his hands. He tries to pick another one more gently after Momoka’s advice, but a dark aura surrounds the peach which makes him throw it away in pain. When Momoka asks Touka if he hates peaches, he declines and tells her that he has been to a peach garden before. However, this makes him wonder when that was. Later, Makoto panics at the sight of a very large peach floating down the stream. She gathers the rest of the group to help her, but Touka stays where he is because he is tired. Sensing something, he makes his way to a small building where he finds the triplets waiting. The triplets express that they expected him because of his being the stone sword. They comment that he is the same as them, but find that he won’t accept a statement like that. Touka tries to leave, but he finds himself trapped as the world shifts.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group gets ready to cut open the giant peach. Yumiko screams after Haruhiko slices though it, but it is only a coincidence. The triplets talk about Touka, a different Touka from the one standing in the room with them. They then tell Touka that they need his power, through the stone sword. When Touka asks them where it is, they tell him that it is inside his body. Touka is confused by this, but he looks down to find the sword piercing through him. Outside, the group searches for Touka. Haruhiko sees the image of the small girl behind a tree, and feels a slash on his back after remembering who she is. Elsewhere, the triplets make Touka realize that he isn’t bleeding. They tell him that he was created a long time ago, and that the stone sword is not something meant to hurt him. THe stone sword starts glowing after he realizes this, and he then finds himself outside in the peach garden. He sees the image of Yumiko calling out to him, but he is stopped by the small girl when he tries to approach her. She tells Touka that he is only a replacement for her, and won’t give him the stone sword or Haruhiko. She then forces a peach into Touka’s chest, which causes him a great deal of pain. He sees the image of Yumiko finding the young girl before passing out, only to find Momoka in front of him when he opens his eyes. As everyone returns home, Kikyou discovers that Touka has realized that he is not human. That night while he is with Yumiko, Touka asks if he was born from her. Yumiko tells him that he was born from a big peach, before assuring him that he is her child. She then suggests that he can enter her again if he would like.

Impression:

Last week I assumed that this was going to be a Momoka centric episode but I was wrong. The title “momo” was referring to actual peaches. However, the episode did explain a bit more about Touka’s existence as I suspected. I think I remember doubting that the young girl was actually Touka, but it looks like I was wrong. It is confirmed that Touka’s existence is that of a doll, just like the butterfly triplets. He was created as a replacement for Yumiko’s child, also known as Touka. Yumiko seemingly joked about Touka’s being born from a large peach, but I think it is safe to assume that it is actually true. The pain Touka experienced from the peaches could probably prove that. We have also found that Touka has the ability to summon the stone sword because it is actually a part of him. We still don’t know how the young girl ceased to exist, but it seems like she can still appear in some kind of form to interact with Haruhiko and Touka.

Now, I know questions about Touka’s gender will be brought up once again. Now that we have learned the small girl’s true identity, it brings us closer to believing that Touka is actually a girl. Things like him wearing a two piece bathing suit and having long hair also point to that, but then again, the rest of his actions make us assume that he is male. I think it is quite possible that he is actually both male and female. He is now confirmed to be a doll after all, and that might explain how he is able to have long hair at random. Coming from this show, would it really be that surprising? I think my previous joke statement about Touka Gettan taking shoujo ai to the next level might actually be true. Looking at the rest of this series and the previous work of Yamibou, this isn’t really that shocking at all. There are still quite a few more questions and details left unanswered, but it looks like we will start discovering them soon enough!

Summary:

A large audience applauds as the curtains rise to the start of a play. On screen is Touka who questions his existence, while Yumiko tells him that he exists to be loved by her. Nene walks on stage to comfort a troubled Yumiko, who explains that she was having a nightmare. Yumiko wonders what the difference between a dream and reality is, because it causes her pain either way. The scene slowly shifts to a younger Kiyoharu, who is holding a piece of the mask fragment. When his father sees this, Kiyoharu convinces him that it is something else. His father then introduces a young girl to him, Yuriko. He explains that she is Kiyoharu’s younger sister, who has come back from others’ care for various reasons. Kiyoharu goes into Yuriko’s room later during the night, convincing Yurkiko that he has come to play. Taking the role of the doctor and making Yuriko the patient, he starts performing a sexual act on her. Six years later, Yuriko has entered Touka High School. Even after learning that siblings should not act in such a way, she has become very close with her brother. Kiyoharu arrives one night and makes love to Yuriko. After finding out, Kiyoharu’s father attempts to convince him of his wrong doing. After learning of his older brother Kiyotsugu, Kiyoharu wonders what will become of the child. His father tells him that they will not acknowledge it, but he turns to find Kiyoharu screaming in pain afterwards. A child named Yumiko is born to Yuriko in the future. Nene explains that it is her duty to protect Juna who is inhabiting her.

Sixteen years in the future, Kiyoharu is cursing his older brother Kiyotsugu in insanity. Yumiko enters in search of her father, but Kiyoharu mistakes her for Yuriko. There is a loud thud in the darkness after Kiyoharu charges towards Yumiko. Kiyotsugu makes his way to the room after hearing this, and finds Yumiko standing over Kiyoharu. In front of him is also the stone sword. Kiyoharu suddenly gets back up, and forces the mask shard into Kiyotsugu’s eye. A girl then appears, and shoots Kiyoharu with a rifle. Although she seemingly succeeds in hitting him, Yumiko falls as well. Misuzu later reports Kiyotsugu’s injuries to his father, but also reports that Kiyotsugu believes that he is Kiyoharu. Misuzu reveals that she is still in nurse training before she can take her leave, so Kamiazuma orders her to come to his room later. Kiyoharu in Kiyotsugu’s body approaches Yumiko at night, still believing that she is Yuriko. Despite her disagreement, he pulls her away and rapes her. In the distant future, Kiyotsugu asks if Yumiko would like to go to his room for the first time in a long time, but she denies because she has work. Momoka arrives home and asks Yumiko if Touka has returned yet. Yumiko tells her that she doesn’t know because she has been working, so she suggests to Momoka that she check his room. Momoka does not see him in his room, but finds his school uniform. Embracing it, she takes in his smell with joy. Afterwards, Momoka asks who she is and why she exists. Touka tells her that she is herself, and she exists because she exists. Touka tells Momoka that the world is hers, and confirms that the world exists because they are living in it. Momoka makes a wish in the hopes that they will be able to see things that they could not see before, as snow flutters around them. The actors of the play bow down to the audience afterwards, and the curtains close.

Impression:

I cannot tell you how glad I am that Touka Gettan has finally returned to the plot that made it so interesting in the beginning. Not only have they done that, but they also took a very interesting approach that I have not yet seen in an anime by presenting the episode in the form of a play. I have mixed feelings on this approach, but I can certainly say that it was interesting and unique. There was quite a bit of development in this episode. We finally find out why Kiyotsugu and Yumiko were being called two different names in the first episode. Through the power of the mask shard that was put into his eye, Kiyotsugu took on the mind of his destroyed younger brother Kiyoharu. Yumiko was simply being called Yuriko because of Kiyoharu’s belief that she was her mother, Yuriko. You could say this episode was pushing the limits again with all of the incest, but we’ve been shown so much already that I don’t think anybody was extremely shocked by it. I will just say that Kiyoharu is one sick little man, and his father isn’t exactly the most honorable person either. Probably the most important question that is still left open is about Touka and Momoka’s existence. Hopefully we will find out a bit more about this in the next episode, with it’s title being “Momo” or “peach”. You know I am excited about seeing a Momoka centric episode!

Summary:

Nene is shocked when she walks outside, because she is standing in front of a large ocean. She tries to tell this to Yumiko who is sunbathing inside, but Yumiko only expresses her belief that summer is the time for the sea. Elsewhere, the students are heading to a pool. Momoka shows Touka the bathing suit under her dress in the middle of the crowd, causing him to drag her away in embarrassment. Shouko has Makoto try on various kinds of swim wear to her delight. Makoto excitedly greets Momoka as usual when she meets her outside, but Shouko tries to get inbetween the two while they are playing. When they suggest that they try a water slide, Shouko imagines the situation she could get in with Makoto. After finding that the line is too long, the butterfly triplets show themselves to suggest a similar ride. Momoka and Makoto both have fun riding this one, but Shouko gets special treatment. When Nene finds that Touka has already arrived home, she amazes him by showing him the ocean. Touka decides to take a swim now that he is alone, but his bathing suit is eaten by fish in the process.

While Momoka is eating, she can’t help but think about her want to see Touka. She begins searching for him everywhere, but cannot find him. When Haruhiko finds her, he sees that she is in tears. After he mentions that Touka has probably went home, Momoka runs off before he can say any more. When Nene guesses that Momoka will be arriving soon, she suggests that she should be in the sea as well. Momoka is then transported to the ocean, where she wanders around in amazement. After eating, Momoka decides to try on the bathing suit she finds. She eventually finds Touka, but when she jumps into the water with him, the bathing suit disintegrates. Touka and Momoka both stay naked in the water for a long time in embarrassment, until Momoka finally suggests that they walk to the shore back to back. On the way there, Momoka mentions that Touka’s hands are very warm, and much different from the usual. Makoto greets Momoka when she gets home, and Nene shows up in a bathing suit of her own. However, as Yumiko starts to fall asleep, Nene’s bathing suit disintegrates. Makoto then hugs Nene, as she expresses how great of a body she has.

Impression:

This had to be the most shameless episode yet. I’m not a huge Yumiko fan, so I wasn’t extremely into her nude sunbathing or skimpy bathing suit. I’m sure a lot you will will love that though. Makoto was all over Momoka, and it was funny seeing how Shouko reacted to that. Kikyou was also really cute, even though she only had like a second of screen time. I took more liking to this episode in the second half when Momoka started searching for Touka. I know this was similar to one of the earlier episodes, but she even started crying this time (Gogo Touka x Momoka love!). The disintegrating bathing suit was pretty ridiculous, but I loved it when Momoka walked back with Touka. She scenes with Momoka wandering around the beach were also nice to watch. Oh, and what the heck was up with Momoka getting squirted in the face? Wow.

Now, I have to mention this as well. Why was Touka wearing a two piece bathing suit!? Was that a sports bra!? I love to joke that he is a trap, and the hot springs episode already bothered me, but now I’m really thrown off. Is Touka Gettan really taking shoujo ai to the next level? What is Touka exactly! I can only hope we will find out soon enough. I also took notice of the spirits that were floating around Yumiko. They are quite similar to the ones that we’ve seen floating around Niko, not to mention her similar characteristics. It makes me wonder if she is connected to her in some way. Is Niko a clone? I could be totally wrong. The next episode’s title is “maku” (or “theater/play”), so it is probably another school episode. I’m just waiting anxiously for the last few episodes into the past, so that we can finally find the answers to the questions we’ve been asking since the first few episodes.

On the way to school, Momoka excitedly tells a less than enthusiastic Makoto about the food they will be making in class. Asuna stops Touka in the hall before everyone heads to the class, asking to see him afterwards, and he agrees to. After using the bathroom, Makoto panics at the sight she sees after she finishes. Makoto lies in discomfort outside, and Shouko arrives to take her to the nurses’ office. While lying in a bed in the nurse’s office, a light starts shining from Makoto’s body. Because of this, Momoka starts transforming into Sei while she has been cooking, and Yumiko reacts to Juna’s desire to find Sei. The stone sword emerges from Touka’s body while meeting with Asuna, which makes her run off in fear. Misuzu, the school nurse, simply explains to Makoto that it was her first time after being asked if she is sick. Elsewhere on a rooftop, Kaya transforms back into her human form after having been a cat for some time. On the way home, Makoto explains to Momoka what was wrong. Upon being asked when her first time was, Momoka stops in thought for a moment, because she cannot remember. However, she puts it off as something unimportant and treats Makoto to her cooking when they get home. In other places that night, numerous drivers start wrecking at the sight of a nude Kaya on the side of the road.

Impression:

Ok. I swore this show couldn’t surprise me anymore, but I was proven wrong yet again. I’m not extremely familiar with this aspect of girls, but I’m pretty sure that their first period doesn’t result in a huge amount of light and phenomenon. I’m guessing the point they were trying to give was that everyone reacts to Makoto’s spiritual stability and the dragon she holds inside herself. We finally get to see Misuzu, the school nurse, which I have been expecting to see for awhile in this episode. Being a stoic type of character, I instantly took a liking to her. We also learned that Kaya has been in the form of a cat for quite some time now, before changing back into her human form. I wonder why it’s always a cat in Japanese culture. People can’t transform into birds or something? I’ll have to look into that. I’m also interested in seeing why Asuna became so afraid upon seeing Touka summon the stone sword. I seriously doubt it’s just because it was unnatural, because everyone in Kamitsumihara seems to find magic normal. It makes me believe that she will be playing a slightly bigger role in the past which is to be revealed. I really liked this episode, simply because they have finally begun to get back on track with the plot. The next episode will probably end up being full of fanservice, with the title of “umi” (or “sea”). I can’t wait to see everyone in their swimsuits .

Oh, and I’ve decided to stop doing detailed summaries for this show for a couple reasons. It has become inconsistent with the style I write the rest of my shows in, I’ve honestly got tired of it and find it kind of pointless (do you guys really care about the random things the butterfly triplets say in between scenes), and I don’t think anyone reads them. Like the other shows I write on, I will continue to summarize what I think is important, and expand on the plot in my impression. If anyone has questions about something in the episode, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer if I can remember it.
